Sure. I joined the sports camp because I like to challenge myself. I also like to meet new friends. The camp was fun, but not without its challenges! Each day began with a 5-kilometer cross-country run -at 6 am! At first I couldn’t finish the whole route. On the fourth day, I was so tired that I even didn’t want to get out of bed. I felt homesick and almost phoned my dad to take me home. But I didn’t give up. Things soon got better. I felt I had become stronger and more confident and had made new friends. Even though being a camper has its challenges, I feel it is worthwhile.

Learning to learn
Parallelism as a literary device is the use of expressions, clauses or sentences that are similar in their structure. It can make the content more rhythmic, engaging and easier to remember: It is commonly used in literary works and speeches.
1 What sentence structure is used repeatedly What figure of speech is it
A similar structure is used repeatedly. Namely, “Use... as if... Hear... as if... Touch... as if... is parallelism.
2 How does this technique help to express the author’s emotions
The use of parallelism in speech or writing allows speakers or writers to maintain a consistency within their work and creates a balanced flow of ideas. Moreover, parallelism can be used as a tool for persuasion.
Now make your own sentences using this technique.

Arguments
Supporting examples
3 Give your talk to the class.
Sample:
It would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days at some time during his early adult life, which sounds ridiculous but is true in fact.
For one thing, we could value everything we used to take for granted. Second, we could experience the difficult situations the disabled persons have to experience every day. In turn you would be ready to help people in difficulty. For example, if you were blind and became a seeing person one day, can you imagine how wildly you were excited! It's natural for you to help blind people because you had the same empathy. Finally, we could raise our awareness to keep healthy. Some dieting and sleeping habits tend to lead to eye diseases or hearing problems, which we could overlook everyday.
I think this is a good way to remind us to appreciate what we have now.

Activity 2: Listen and read the poem. Answer the questions.
Don’t quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out—
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit—
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
(Excerpts from “Don’t quit” by Edgar Albert Guest)
1 What is the key message of the poem
2 Which of life’s difficulties are mentioned in the poem What is your understanding of the line “Success is failure turned inside out”
The poem is all about perseverance, determination and willpower. Never give up especially when things go wrong. It reminds us that there are elements of success within every failure, so we mustn’t quit whatever difficulties we may encounter in life.
Things sometimes go wrong; the road seems all uphill; the funds are low and the debts are high.
Within each failure are lessons that must be learnt in order to succeed. On the road to success, you have to experience failure first. In other words, “failure is the mother of success”.

Yes. The poem teaches me to stick to my goals and never give up.
