Though many people think of summer as a time to slow down and enjoy a vacation, it can also be the perfect time to make money or get experience. Here are some good summer jobs for you.
Survey-taking
Survey-taking is a way to make money during your summer holiday, especially if you live in an area that doesn’t have many chances. With a computer or smartphone, you can sit on your sofa and search for survey sites such as Surveys On The Go, InboxDollars or Swagbucks. Without much effort, you can start making money for your opinions. However, the ease of use comes with a low earning potential.
Food Delivery(递送)
If you enjoy driving, you can use your car to deliver food. You can sign up to deliver food from restaurants with services such as Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub. Another choice is delivering daily used goods with services such as Postmates, Shipt and Instacart. The earning potential for delivery can be higher than for other jobs because customers often give tips. The disadvantage is that these jobs require you to put in more time.
Photo Applications
If you go to the mall, you can use an app such as Field Agent or Gigwalk to make money by taking pictures of products in stores. See any help-wanted signs in the store windows Take a picture and get paid for each one you find.
House Sitting and Pet Care
Summer is a time when people take vacations and may need someone to look after their homes or pets. Services such as HouseSitter and MindMyHouse connect homeowners with proper house sitters(看房人). For animal lovers who would rather care for someone’s pet while they are away, you can turn to services like Rover.
1、What do we know about making money through Survey-Taking
A.It’s interesting. B.It requires little effort.
C.It takes much time. D.It requires special knowledge.
2、Why is the earning potential for Food Delivery higher than for other jobs
A.You can get some extra reward. B.You work longer hours.
C.You need to drive your own car. D.You deliver food for many people.
3、Which app should you use if you enjoy looking after animals
A.Swagbucks. B.Uber Eats. C.HouseSitter. D.Rover.
Last summer, my husband, Kevin, and I accepted an invitation to a camping trip. Camping sites were difficult to book. Thinking of the need for physical distance, a paddling (用桨划船) camping trip seemed great. We chose a three-night trip to Crotch Lake which is in Ontario’s North Frontenac Parklands.
Our group of 15 lived in four sites. Most people were experienced wilderness campers, but this was my first real paddling camping trip. The most difficult part for me was the planning, trying to put everything we needed into a canoe (独木舟), and being mindful of food and weather. Meal planning was quite tiring.
We put the canoe into the water near Ompah, a village at the north end of the lake. Paddling on the open water was unbelievable! As we moved, some campers on shore (岸) waved, as if welcoming us into the community. Nearly two hours passed by the time we reached our site, which Kevin and I shared with two friends. The surrounding (周围的) area of land is covered with a lot of trees. As a result, there was no chance for any walks. On the other side, this forced us to take more time to relax and enjoy our surroundings.
We chose different places to have fun each day. First, we paddled to the Whitefish Rapids, where the Mississippi River rushes into the lake. On the second day, we took a 13-kilometer round trip to the lake’s dam. And on our final morning, we snaked through the Crotch Lake Conservation Reserve, an area where there are many small islands. Being on the lake allowed us to socialize as a group while enjoying nature’s offerings.
The trip gave me a chance to immerse myself in nature. Crotch Lake was a trip I would enjoy repeating. When everyday life gets busy, memories such as this one make me relax. I can’t wait to trade my desk for a canoe and take off on another trip with friends.
4、What did the author think was the most difficult part for her

6、What does the author want to share in paragraph 4
A. How the trip was organized. B. What the trip meant to her.
C. Her worries about the islands. D. The difficulty she met during the trip.
7、How did the author feel about her trip
A. It encouraged her to start a new adventure alone.
B. It reminded her how wonderful city life was.
C. It gave her a chance to focus on family life.
D. It was enjoyable and worth it.
Last Friday, a special thing took place at the National Theater of Korea. A robot called EveR 6 led an orchestra (管弦乐队) in a performance of Korean music. Robots have led orchestras in other countries, but this was the first time ever in Korea.
EveR 6 is a robot built by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH). It’s about as tall as a person, and has a human-like face that can show feelings. EveR 6 has joints (关节) in its neck, shoulders, etc. As a result, it can move its arms quickly in many different directions.
But EveR 6 doesn’t think on its own like some Artificial Intelligence programs. Instead, it has a limited group of movements that it has been trained to perform. To make these movements as natural as possible, EveR 6’s movements are learnt from real human conductors.
When EveR 6 moved its baton (指挥棒) for the first time, a piece of music rang out. Every movement of the robot’s arms brought more instruments into the mix, and the orchestra’s music grew louder and more exciting. Mr White, a human conductor, was impressed with the way EveR 6 moved. “The robot was able to present such difficult moves much better than I had imagined,” he said.
But the robot still is not nearly ready to supersede a human conductor. Mr White says the robot’s greatest weakness is that it can’t hear. “Some people think that conducting is just about hand waving and keeping the beat,” says Mr White. But a good conductor needs to listen to the orchestra, so that he or she can correct and encourage the orchestra as it plays.
Mr White doesn’t think robots are likely to replace human conductors. But he believes robots could be helpful in situations like practice parts where the same thing needs to be done many times.
8、What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The effect of EveR 6. B. The advantage of EveR 6.
C. The importance of EveR 6. D. The basic information of EveR 6.
9、What does the underlined word “supersede” in paragraph 5 mean
A. Look forward to. B. Show interest in.
C. Take the place of. D. Make an impression on.
10、Which of the following may Mr White agree with
A. Robots’ role as a conductor will be overlooked.
B. Robots could work in some fields of conductors’ work.
C. Robots are useless in practice parts of a conductor.
D. Robots will replace human conductors.
11、In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A. Science. B. Sports. C. Health. D. Education.
In our daily lives, we spend a lot more time typing on a keyboard than writing with pencil and pen, so does handwriting still offer anything useful
Researchers tasked 42 adult volunteers with learning the Arabic letters from beginning: Some through writing it out on paper, some through typing it out on a keyboard, and some through watching and responding to video instructions. Those in the handwriting group not only learned the unfamiliar letters more quickly, but they were also better able to apply their new knowledge in other areas—by using the letters to make new words and to recognize words they hadn’t seen before, for example.
The real question is: Are there other benefits to handwriting that have to do with reading and spelling and understanding
While writing, typing, and visual learning were effective at teaching participants to recognize Arabic letters—learners made very few mistakes after six exercise sessions—on average, the writing group needed fewer sessions to get to a good standard.
Researchers then tested the groups to see how the learning could be generalized. In every follow-up test, using skills they hadn’t been trained on, the writing group performed the best: naming letters, writing letters, spelling words, and reading words.
While 42 people isn’t a huge sample size for a study of this type, the trends reported by the study indicate that pen and paper still have an important role to play in learning, even as digital formats(格式) have come to control our communications. And although adults were used in this particular experiment, the researchers say their findings should have relevance to children too. Several previous studies have also highlighted the advantages of copying as an aid to learning.
Today pupils in schools spend far less time than they used to on handwriting skills and practice, for obvious reasons—but based on what this study shows, it wouldn’t be wise to put away the pens and pencils permanently. Because with writing, you’re getting a stronger representation in your mind that lets you support other types of tasks that don’t in any way involve handwriting.
12、How did the researchers get the conclusion
A.By making comparison. B.By studying document.
C.By asking volunteers. D.By watching videos.
13、In which part handwriting performs the best
A.Communicating with others. B.Reviewing the previous skills.
C.Learning a new language. D.Setting an example to kids.
14、Why do pupils spend less time than they used to on handwriting skills
A.They don't like pencils and paper.
B.The digital tools are more powerful today.
C.Handwriting has nothing to do with study.
D.Nobody forces them to practice handwriting skills.
15、What might be the most suitable title for the text
A.Put down your keyboard. B.Pen will replace computers.
C.Handwriting is out of time now. D.Handwriting is better in learning.

It was an early winter morning. Joan was sleeping soundly when the phone rang in the living room. She glanced at the clock on the wall—it was already nine o’clock. Every weekend morning, her mother had to work part-time in the cafe. Because her brother Mike was sleeping like a log. She quietly went over to the living room and picked up the receiver. “Good morning, my Dear!” Recognizing the voice from her father, Joan was immediately surrounded by a sense of joy.
Joan’s father was a seaman, who rarely came back. Born in a not-rich family, Joan and Mike felt the stress of life but they were happy to enjoy the family atmosphere. At school, they were straight-A students and actively involved in school activities. They became the pride of the school and the envy of the students.
“Good morning, Dad, what’s up ” Joan said in an easy tone. “I have been very nice recently, my baby. Today is your mother’s birthday, and I have ordered her a cake online and it should come to the house in one and half an hour. Do remember to take the cake.”
Hearing her father’s words, Joan felt a little ashamed. How she could forget Mum’s birthday! She took a look at the dirty clothes on the sofa and the oily floor that hadn’t been mopped (拖地) for a few days. There was two hours before her mother came back. So she planned to prepare a surprise for Mum.
Thinking of this, she felt full of excitement. “Well, Dad, now I’m going to wake Mike up. We will give Mum a surprise !”

Researchers tasked 42 adult volunteers with learning the Arabic letters from beginning: Some through writing it out on paper, some through typing it out on a keyboard, and some through watching and responding to video instructions. Those in the handwriting group not only learned the unfamiliar letters more quickly, but they were also better able to apply their new knowledge in other areas—by using the letters to make new words and to recognize words they hadn’t seen before, for example."(研究人员让42名成年志愿者从一开始就学习阿拉伯语字母:一些人通过在纸上书写,一些人通过在键盘上打字,还有一些人通过观看和响应视频指令。 故选A项。
Those in the handwriting group not only learned the unfamiliar letters more quickly, but they were also better able to apply their new knowledge in other areas—by using the letters to make new words and to recognize words they hadn’t seen before, for example."(手写组的人不仅更快地学会了不熟悉的字母,而且他们还能够更好地将新知识应用到其他领域,例如,利用这些字母造出新词,识别出他们以前从未见过的单词。) In every follow-up test, using skills they hadn't been trained on, the writing group performed the best: naming letters, writing letters, spelling words, and reading words."(一次后续测试中,使用未经训练的技能,手写组表现最好:命名字母、书写字母、拼写单词和阅读单词。)
While 42 people isn’t a huge sample size for a study of this type, the trends reported by the study indicate that pen and paper still have an important role to play in learning, even as digital formats(格式) have come to control our communications."(虽然42人并不是这类研究的巨大样本量,但研究报告的趋势表明,笔和纸在学习中仍然发挥着重要作用,即使数字格式已经开始控制我们的交流。) Today pupils in schools spend far less time than they used to on handwriting skills and practice, for obvious reasons—but based on what this study shows, it wouldn’t be wise to put away the pens and pencils permanently"(今天,学校里的学生花在书写技能和练习上的时间比过去少得多,原因显而易见,但根据这项研究的结果,永久性地把钢笔和铅笔扔掉是不明智的。)
While 42 people isn’t a huge sample size for a study of this type, the trends reported by the study indicate that pen and paper still have an important role to play in learning, even as digital formats(格式) have come to control our communications."(虽然42人并不是这类研究的巨大样本量,但研究报告的趋势表明,笔和纸在学习中仍然发挥看重要作用,即使数字格式已经开始控制我们的交流。) Handwriting is better in learning."
