1) have a garage sale
2) various things
3) called Mike’s mom through the car window

drive through
through, along 和across 的区别:
(1) along

We walked along the river.
He walked across the road carefully.
He walked through the forest alone.
He walked across the hall.
He walked through the hall.
2. “What’s the first thing we need to do ” asked Mike.
“Well, I think we ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) could set up the tables. We’ll have to start pretty early tomorrow morning. People may come before we get ready.”
Together, they set up a long table where they could place the small objects. They also strung up a clothesline to hang old clothes. Then they carried all the articles out to the yard. It took them hours to divide the things into categories, and place them in the right place. When they finished. It was almost dark.

Soon came their first customer of the day, Grandpa Luis. He was looking for something that his grandson would like. Finally he picked up some baseball cards and asked, “ These are 5 cents each, right ”
Mike nodded, “ Yes, Grandpa.”

Dear Victor:
I am a college student ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ). Nowadays games on the net are very popular with college students. Some of my roommates are very interested in them. They not only play games in their free time, but also keep talking about them at night when lights are off, and they regard games as part of life. I’ve begged(乞求) them to give it up, but they wouldn’t listen to me. It has become a rather big problem. Should I report it to our teachers or do something else
Ted
Dear Ted:
Drop it. Your room ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )mates, as grown-ups, can do whatever they want with their time so long as it doesn’t break school rules or violate(妨碍) other people’s interests.
Playing perhaps giv ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )es these students relaxation(放松) from hard study. If they play too often, have little time to study, and they will reap what they have sown, but you will not. Reporting to the teachers would only harm your good name in your dormitory(宿舍). Perhaps, in return, join them in a game or two.
