My favorite labour course
In response to the call of nationwide labor education, a series of labour courses have been launched recently in our school, such as planting vegetables, making things with our hands and repairing household appliances.
Sewing is my favorite course, where I can obtain a fundamental knowledge of essential life skills such as sewing a button, knitting a scarf, and making a cushion by operating a sewing machine. It is surely a rewarding and fulfilling experience, which can not only enrich our extracurricular life but also can help us acquire practical basic working skill for our livelihood(生计) and form the good habit of labouring.
The labour courses have won wide popularity among students and has a positive effect on the personal growth of everyone involved. If possible, an exhibition could beheld to demonstrate students’ well-designed works to show their creativity and talent.
续写I drove to the animal shelter and was led to the kennels (狗舍) by a keeper. Each cage contained five to seven dogs. Long-haired dogs, curly-haired dogs, black dogs and spotted dogs all jumped up, trying to reach me. I studied each one but rejected one after another for various reasons: too big, too small, too much hair and so on. As I approached an old dog, his eyes caught my attention. Calm and clear, they were telling me that he was waiting for my arrival. I made an immediate decision that I would bring it home for Dad.
“Dad! Look what I got for you, Dad!” I said excitedly. Dad, however, wasn’t that excited as I had expected. With days going by, he accepted the new family member gradually. He even named the dog Cherry, with whom he spent long hours walking down the country road, exploring the community. Cherry grew to be an inseparable companion throughout the next three years. Dad’s bitterness faded, his enthusiasm for life restored. Dick and I were happy to find our “former” Dad back. The special experience enlightened me that company is the most important for the elderly.牡丹江市名校2023-2024学年高三上学期第三次月考

Six years ago, something unforgettable happened. My wife, Liz and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary that year. It was a lovely event hosted by our sons for us. Many wonderful friends from the past surprised us with presents and congratulations. Our gift to each other was a driving trip out west. We drove from Ontario into Alberta, then southward into Glacier National Park in Montana and continued to Yellowstone National Park.
It was a cold spring day and the Beartooth Highway had opened for the season just days before. Alongside the road there was still a great amount of remaining snow. The scenery was so impressive that we made numerous stops to record memories with my camera. At almost the highest point of the highway, I stopped at a lookout to catch the amazing views with my wife in the center of my camera lens.
There were not many vehicles on the road. Occasionally, cars with energetic young tourists passed by. And then we heard a motorcycle in the distance. The driver of the motorcycle in rags(衣衫褴褛) parked behind our car. As he approached us, his only words were, “Give me your camera and get over there with your wife.” I must admit I felt nervous that we might be robbed where we just created some beautiful memories. Surprisingly, he just took a picture of us, handed back my camera and rode off before we could express our gratitude. The photo he took is one of the most cherished and prized of our trip.
I learned my lesson in the journey. We should never judge a man by his appearance. If the motorcycle driver reads this story and remembers the situation, we would like to say “thank you” to him.

A. Alberta. B. Glacier National Park.
C. Ontario. D. Yellowstone National Park.
25. Why did the authors top their car on the highway from time to time

C. Something was wrong with their car.

26. What was the author’s first feeling after hearing the motorcyclist’s words in Para.3
A. Confused. B. Worried. C. Thrilled. D. Embarrassed.
27. How can we best describe the driver of the motorcycle
A. Rich and skeptical. B. Creative and tolerant.
C. Cautious and stubborn. D. Kind and straightforward.

Bradley McConachie, a 33-year-old Australian is actually a student in international relations completing his PhD through Griffith University. He came to Beijing for a cooperative research at Beijing University two years ago. Such an academic life was colorful with a chance offered by the cultural exchanges project, “I'm in China".
Bradley was lucky to win the most "likes" for his photo story about his life in China and became one of 20 winners to visit locations by the project this summer. All the winners’ experiences were filmed to produce a reality show, My Chinese Working Day, which will be broadcast by mid-September.
Bradley was chosen to work as a recreational manager for a Chinese wedding. The film crew took them to many “amazing sites" and the staff at the resort taught them a lot about how to incorporate modern Chinese features while still keeping traditional customs.
“I would have to say two things stick out as the most memorable:the helicopter ride and talking with the staff at the hotel about how they organize weddings here in China," he said. That was Bradley's first time to be in a helicopter, and he was too absorbed with the “stunning" view of the coastline.
“I think it is so important to show other Australians the different landscapes China has to offer. I think so many Australians, when they think about China, imagine the historical sites of Beijing and the exciting things to see in Shanghai but have no idea about other beautiful places, like Sanya or the many other places people have been taken to in this TV series. It was nice to experience these little touches. I was happy to be a part of that experience!” Bradley said.

“I’ll be there in a few minutes. I’m playing a game with a friend, a guy named Scuzzball,” my 15-year-old son shouted from his room. “Oh, what is Scuzzball’s real name ” I asked. “I have no idea.” He said. “Where is he from ” I continued. He responded, “I think somewhere in Canada. Oh, wait, it doesn’t even matter because Scuzzball just left the game and he has been replaced with a robot.”
“Your friend is replaced by artificial intelligence ” “It doesn’t matter, Dad. It happens all the time! The game continues.” My son doesn’t mind playing with a person or a robot, which is typical of gamers these days. I wonder whether the face-to-face experience of friendship that I grew up with will be lost by our children.
Aristotle, a great thinker and educator, has pointed out that shallow friendship is easily formed but also easily abandoned because such bonds are fragile. Deep friendship, by contrast, is when you care for your friend for his sake, not for any benefit you can get. This is selfless friendship. You can have only a couple of these friends because they require lots of time and effort. You must make sacrifices for each other.
Presence in friendship requires “being with” and “doing for”. Perhaps the most defining feature of deep friendship is “doing for”, as my friend has my back in trouble or brings me soup when I’m sick. Only strong bonds have the power to motivate real sacrifices. But it is unclear why online “friends” would bother to do the hard work of friendship. When I asked my students whether they had people in their lives who would bring them soup when they were sick, they laughed at my Stone Age question and said they’d just order soup online themselves.
Digital life fills and absorbs waking life time so that people do not join in example case of friendship, like sports, collective arts, free range childhoods, etc. In this way, digital life produces false friendships.
32. How does the author lead in the topic of the text
A. By quoting famous mottoes.
B. By introducing an online game.
C. By showing robots’ irreplaceable role.
D. By presenting a parent-child conversation.
33. What does the author mainly explain in Paragraph 3

D. The formation of shallow friendship.
34. What can we infer from Paragraph 4
A. Ordering food online for friends is an example of “being with”.
B. The students thought highly of the teacher’s question.
C. Virtual friends won’t make real sacrifices.
D. Robots will have our back in trouble.
35. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Benefits of Digital Life
B. Digitalized Friendship
C. Face-to-face Communication

第二节 (满分25分)
“Watch out! You nearly broadsided that car!” My father yelled at me. “Can’t you do anything right ” Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me. A lump rose in my throat as I averted my eyes. I wasn’t prepared for another quarrel. “I saw the car, Dad. Please don’t yell at me when I’m driving.” My voice was measured and steady, sounding far calmer than I really felt. Dad glared at me, and then turned away and settled back.
That night I went outside to collect my thoughts. What could I do about him Dad had been a lumberjack (伐木工人) in Washington and Oregon. He had enjoyed being outdoors using his strength against the forces of nature. The first time he couldn’t lift a heavy log, he joked about it; but later that same day I saw him outside alone, struggling to lift it. He became angry whenever anyone teased him about his advancing age, or when he couldn’t do something he had done as a younger man.
Four days after his sixty-seventh birthday, he had a heart attack. An ambulance sped him to the hospital. At the hospital, Dad was rushed into an operating room. He was lucky; he survived. But something inside Dad died. His enthusiasm for life was gone. He refused to follow the doctor’s orders. Suggestions and offers of help were turned down with bad words. The number of visitors thinned, and then finally stopped altogether. Dad was left alone.
My husband, Dick, and I asked Dad to come and live with us on our small farm. We hoped the fresh air and rustic atmosphere would help him adjust. Within a week after he moved in, I regretted the invitation. It seemed that nothing was satisfactory. He criticized everything I did. I became upset. Soon I was taking my anger out on Dick. We began to argue. Luckily, Dick had a friend who was a mental health expert. After he listened to our story, he recommended that we should find a dog to accompany Dad. I thought maybe I should have a try.
