I decided to be a teacher when I was 10, because I could clearly see some of my teachers had extraordinary powers.
There was an English teacher in fifth grade who could 46 and effortlessly transport us to different worlds every day by telling us stories from books we would otherwise never 47 . It was even shocking that my teacher could 48 the invisible. I was one of those who 49 insight (洞察). Yet my teacher would always notice me and the 50 message in her eyes suggested that she could see me through. She had another superpower and even after four decades, I could still 51 remember her lessons about the great masters of art and great geographers. She did this even though her 52 was not art, nor geography. I knew I wanted to be one of those all-seeing ones with the 53 that made children feel safe and valued.
I know being a teacher isn’t the 54 or the most financially rewarding of jobs. And there are occupational 55 —your knees can become worn out from years of carrying piles of notebooks up and down the school staircase; your 56 can give in from too much talking. But despite all that, there are still those choosing this 57 . To them, teaching is not just a job—it is a science, an art and a craft, which demands 58 labour and investment.
I have taught for three decades. Occasionally, I meet my 59 students. Their obvious love for me and fond 60 of our time together are my rewards.

My son “graduated” from elementary school this week. I put the word in quotations(引语)because as a rising 6th grader, he wasn’t receiving a 136 —and because the school used a 137 term to describe the milestone. On reflection, the school’s term felt even more 138 than the traditional name of the 139 of one stage of a person’s education: they called it Moving On.
At the Moving On Ceremony, each member of the 5th grade class 140 one sentence of reflection on what they were thankful for or would 141 about their primary school years. One 142 words caught my attention — he said he was 143 for what he called “a step on the ladder”. I was really 144 by this 11-year-old’s ability to summarize the emotional heart of the “moving on” moment. That was totally beyond my imagination.
Growing up is the work of a 145 — a ladder that has no top. And the gift of a “moving on” moment is that we get to celebrate the firm foothold (立足点)we’ve gained on our 146 step, even as we reach upward toward the next. We get to 147 —not beyond what we’ve learned and accomplished so far, 148 because we are able to build on today’s experiences to move ahead toward tomorrow.
We look forward to our son 149 more graduations in his lifetime. But perhaps more than that, we pray that he will have the ability to recognize many “moving on” moments to celebrate and enjoy with 150 .
