Traveling on an airplane can be a very tiring task even in the best of circumstances, which is why when Sophie Murphy boarded a recent flight from Sydney to Melbourne and noticed an “awful tension” in the cabin. She first thought it was caused by typical bad-tempered passengers, but as the flight neared its end,it became obvious that something was very wrong.
A teenage boy with Down syndrome (唐氏综合征) who was traveling with his family had become upset and would not return to his seat, regardless of the cabin crew’s warnings over the loudspeaker that it was almost time to land. The pilot was forced to circle above the airport, delaying the landing—and angering people on the already tense flight.
“If it were a cartoon,” remembered Murphy,“there would have been smoke coming out of people’s ears.”
As the boy’s elderly parents and adult brothers and sisters tried to persuade him to get off the floor and back into his seat, but in vain,Murphy,42—who had been a teacher for more than 20 years—stood up and quickly headed to the back of the plane.
She found the boy in the passage between rows of seats, lying on his belly, and lay down on her stomach to face him.She began chatting calmly with him, asking his name, his favourite book, and his favourite characters. He told her he felt sick and she tried to comfort him.
Minutes later,he allowed her to hold his hand—and then together they got properly back into airplane seats.Murphy asked for sick bags, and held them as the boy threw up several times, including on her.As she helped him clean up,she repeatedly told him that everything would be okay and that they’d get through it together.
After the plane was finally able to land,no one was impatient to step off the flight as one might expect.Instead, calmed passengers—obviously following Murphy’s amazing example—allowed the boy and his family to depart first, smiling at them as they passed. His parents tearfully thanked Murphy for what she had done, and a doctor sitting nearby also let her know he had even taken notes on her expert way of handling the situation.
24.How did Murphy manage to handle the “awful tension”

B.She fought against unfair treatment.

“Luck is a matter of preparation for meeting the opportunity,” said the American talk show host Oprah Winfrey.I’ve never watched her show, but when a self-made billionaire gives life advice it’s probably worth listening to.
Her point is that blind luck is very rare. You may have to be lucky to find a good job these days but that does not mean you should sit at home waiting for the opportunity to come to you.If you’re Chinese, you may already be familiar with the tale of a farmer waiting by a tree stump for a rabbit to run out and break its neck.
A book by the UK psychologist Richard Wiseman, called The Luck Factor, argues we can all make ourselves luckier. It’s not about going to a temple to burn some incense in hopes that the god will give you good fortune, but practical advice you can follow each day.
Wiseman conducted an experiment as part of his studies.First he divided volunteers into two groups:those who said they were lucky in life and those who said they were not.He gave everyone a newspaper and asked them to look through it to count how many photographs it had inside. On average, the unlucky people took about two minutes to count the photographs while the lucky people took just seconds. Why On the second page of the newspaper,a command,“Stop counting. There are 43 photographs in this newspaper” was written in big letters. The unlucky people mostly did not spot the message.
It’s easy to compare this situation to young persons looking for jobs in a local paper. They might search so hard for one type of position that they miss an even better opportunity.People who are “lucky”,in fact, keep an open mind and don’t go through the same routine every day.
In a word, try to turn bad luck into good.Even if you do fall down and break a leg,the time spent at home can be used wisely to study English.
28.Which of the followings most agrees with the writer’s point
A.All is not gold that shines.
B.Rome was not built in a day.
C.A good heart defeats ill fortune.
D.Success is for those who are prepared.
29.The writer quoted the Chinese tale of a farmer in order to show .
A.man can defeat mature
B.luck is your own hand
C.bad luck can turn into good
D.never waiting for the chance to come
30.From the experiment,Wiseman drew the conclusion that .
A.lucky people often have an open mind
B.unlucky people are more creative
C.unlucky people are slow to read
D.lucky people are quick-minded
31.The underlined word “spot” is the closest in meaning to “ ”.
A.make B.mark C.discover D.receive
D
We live in a world where we want everything instantly. In this instant world it is hard to succeed in anything. To achieve your goal, you first have to change your life from instantly to persistently (坚持地).
Persistence is the course you need to set. When you change your expectancy from instantly to persistently you will gain an advantage of time that many do not have.Time works against those who live instantly.Opportunities are never seen because when something doesn’t happen instantly people move on to the next thing on their list and consider the current goal a failure.
Persistent people have the advantage of time.It allows them to step back, observe and assess the progress of the goal they are pursuing. Some things take longer to develop;some just need to be left there for a while to find their own way.
When you live instantly, you gain and lose instantly. Many times, you do not know how you got there or how to get back because it is not repeatable. When you live persistently, you learn how things work, how to correct a plan and how to guide it to make it successful. You do not panic because you know you have more than enough time.
Slow down and take time to enjoy the journey. If what you are doing is not fun then stop doing it and do something else.
Everything you do should be in pursuit of a better tomorrow than you had yesterday. You should take time to develop your abilities to reach your goals.Do not get discouraged just because your success is not instant.
Celebrate each step along the way.People who live instantly don’t take time to appreciate what they have accomplished. They are just looking for the next thing that they can get instantly.
You must be grateful for the time it takes to reach your goal.Persistence will get you there if you really want to get there.
32.Why will people who want things instantly fail in many things
A.They want greater efficiency.
B.They don’t stick to their goal.
C.They often change their lifestyle.
D.They tend to pursue a higher target.
33.What’s the main advantage persistent people have over instant people
A.The willpower. B.A plan.
C.A target. D.An opportunity.
34.According to the text,persistent people .
A.focus more on the result
B.work slower than instant people
C.will get rewarded for their efforts
D.don’t appreciate what they have done
35.What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing the text
A.To blame those who live instantly.
B.To persuade people to live happily.
C.To praise those who have succeeded.
D.To suggest learning the art of persistence.

Traffic Regulation and Accident Prevention
We live in a remarkable time, and many of the once fatal diseases can now be cured with modern medicine and surgery. 36 Expectations of life have greatly increased. But though the possibility of living a long and happy life is greater than ever before, every day we witness the incredible killing of men, women and children on the roads.Man fights against the motor-car.It is a never-ending battle which man is losing. 37
Nothing can seriously increase your risk of potentially fatal car accidents than speeding and failing to pay attention to weather conditions. 38 There is no doubt that the motor-car often brings out a man’s very worst qualities.Usually quiet and pleasant people, when they are behind the steering wheel, will become unrecognizable. They are impolite,aggressive,self-willed like two-year-olds,completely selfish. All their hidden frustrations, disappointments, and jealousy seem to be caused by driving.
39 It’s all for his own convenience.Due to a serious tragedy, the city is almost uninhabitable and the huge parking lot makes the town ugly. The destruction of rural areas and the annual mass killings are just a statistic, easily forgotten. With regard to driving, the laws of some countries are not strict and even the strictest are not strict enough.
Traffic rules are for everyone to follow under any circumstances, and no one can make an exception unless you make a joke of your own life.Universally accepted standards can only have a significant beneficial on the incidence of accidents.Governments should develop safety codes for manufacturers. 40 These measures may sound cruel. However,if these measures result in a reduction in the loss of life every year, they should certainly not be considered serious. After all,the world belongs to humans, not cars.
A.There are five reasons for the accident and you are guilty.
B.Every year thousands of people are horribly killed, and we sit still and let it happen.
C.Surprisingly, society should smile at the driver and forgive him.
D.Someone has rightly said that when a person is sitting behind the steering wheel, his car becomes an extension of his personality.
E.All advertisements that emphasize power and performance should be banned.
F.It is time to develop a universal norm to reduce this senseless waste of human life.
G.It is almost certain that one day a cure will be found for the rest of the diseases.

“I want to talk to you about Jonathan,” she said.I prepared myself for the worst.Nothing would have surprised me.“Did you know Jonathan brought flowers to school today ” she asked.I nodded, thinking about my favourite bush and trying to hide the hurt in my eyes.

My first job was in Jessif,in the east of Poland.I was promised that I wasn’t going to have to teach any beginners or any little children because it was my first job.I was promptly given the beginners. On my first day of teaching I was given a book which said,“Ah!Go into the classroom and say hello to the children and they’ll all say hello back to you and wave.” I walked into a class of five four-year-olds,followed by all their mothers and grandmothers and I said “Hello” and they all burst into tears.I spent half the lesson trying to get them to say “Hello” to each other and stop them from crying while all the grandmothers stood around and stared at me.I finally finished off my singing Happy Princess Song, all on my own, with crying children to accompany me.It was one of the worst days of my life.I could feel the same with all the children though, because I wanted to sit on the floor and cry with them by the end of it.Then I realized that teaching kids was never going to be my career.I had some other classes as well but quit soon after that and moved onto adults who cry slightly less.Yeah, that was my first teaching experience. Not the best.

写作
第一节
Being An Adult,Being Responsible
I,together with my classmates, attended the coming-of-age ceremony in the school hall, where our teachers and parents witnessed our special process.
After the principal delivered an inspiring speech,we made an oath that we should have a sense of duty for our society as grown-ups from now on.Finally,we walked through the Longmen with our parents, with photos taken to mark this special occasion.
This once-in-a-lifetime ceremony is a golden opportunity to impress upon us students the significance of shouldering responsibility and fulfilling our obligation as a young adult.I am determined to study hard.Only in this way can I equip myself for the future of our society.
第二节
I knew at once what had happened and felt my heart swell with pride.I smiled at the teacher.“Thank you,” I said, reaching for Jonathan’s hand,“you’ve made my day.” While driving back home,I still recalled the love Jonathan showed the little girl and realized that it was what I needed to show my family members. Therefore, when my husband came back home,I snapped a small limb bristling with hot pink azaleas off the bush.I handed him the flowers.“I love you,” I said.
In the evening,my husband and I sat in the sitting room, talking about the bush.We used to love azaleas because they were beautiful, but on that day we knew that they could also bring hope and love to others. We decided to plant more azaleas. At this moment,Jonathan came up behind us,apologizing for pulling up our favourite azalea. With tears in my eyes,I hold him in my arms.“You did the right thing,my son,” I said.“We are proud of you.”
