Leaving our hostel in the centre of Phnom Penh, we climb inside our small Tuk Tuk cabin attached to the back of Kiwi's motorbike; a bottle of water in one hand and a surgeon-style mask in the other we set off on our 45-minute commute.It is a familiar start to the day for me and two other volunteers.We are setting out to work in an orphanage just outside Cambodia's capital city.
The morning rush hour in Phnom Penh is crowded and chaotic.Kiwi directs our path between the trucks, 4×4 Lexus' and countless motorbikes, which often carry entire families.We reach the dusty highway, masks and sunshades firmly in place to protect our eyes and lungs.A mixture of concrete buildings and huts exist along the side of the road among a sea of rubbish.The residents often smile and wave as we pass by.
We turn onto a farm track.The last part of our journey is a roller coaster, jumping out of potholes(路面坑洼) and turning to avoid falling off the sinking road.We pass huts on stilts(木桩), skinny cows and farm yards where children jump and scream upon seeing us.The stream along the side of the road is almost bone dry and vegetation is rare across the fields.
Finally we arrive at our destination: the oasis(令人快慰的地方) is Samrong Farm.By the gates, a group of 10-year-old children compete in the area of marbles.We're greeted by the shouts of “Cha, cha(short for ‘teacher’)!” from several other kids gathering round.As we climb out of our vehicle, the sun is already hot and the oasis is as dry as the fields surrounding it.In such conditions you would imagine life to be hard, but you wouldn't know it to see the warm smiles and hear the laughter of the residents at Samrong Orphanage.
Compared to children in the Western World they have little and yet they give so much in generosity of spirit and enthusiasm for every day.Despite the journey, it is so good to arrive at work in the morning.

短 语
英语中的短语是有一定意义但不构成独立从句或句子的一组词。从形式角度划分,英语的短语可分为名词短语、动词短语、形容词短语、副词短语、介词短语等。英语短语的句法功能通常与对应的单词的句法功能类似,比如,名词短语与名词功能相似,在句中主要充当主语、宾语;介词短语主要充当定语、状语、补语。
He failed to get the first prize in the match.
他在比赛中没有获得一等奖。
在这个句子中the first prize是名词短语,in the match是介词短语。
一、名词短语(NP)
名词短语的构成: (限定词)+(形容词、形容词短语、描述性名词)+名词+(介词短语)。在句中当作名词用, 一般用作主语、宾语、表语或宾语补足语。

A recent report revealed that, in the US alone, 27 million tons of plastic ended up in landfills in 2018, but only 3.1 million tons were recycled.Worldwide the numbers are similarly bad, with just 9% of plastic being recycled.The statistics are even worse for certain types of plastic.For example, out of 80,000 tons of polystyrene(聚苯乙烯) containers generated in the United States, only a small amount (less than 5,000 tons) was recycled.
Now, researchers at The University of Queensland have found a species of worm with an appetite for polystyrene could be the key to plastic recycling on a mass scale.The superworm can eat through polystyrene, thanks to a bacterial enzyme(酶) in their gut.To study how superworms react to purely plastic food, researchers broke up 135 of the creatures into three teams: one was fed only wheat bran(麸皮), another was fed only plastics, and the third was given nothing.
“We found the bran-fed worms have been significantly healthier than the plastic-fed or starved worms, more than doubling their weight over the three weeks they have been monitored.Though the plastic-fed worms made less impressive gains, they still put on more weight than the starved worms,” Dr.Rinke said.“This suggests the worms can get energy from plastics, most likely with the help of their gut microbes.”
Researchers used a technique called metagenomics to find several encoded enzymes with the ability to degrade polystyrene.The long-term goal is to engineer enzymes to degrade plastic waste in recycling plants.
“Superworms are like mini recycling plants, eating the polystyrene and then feeding it to the bacteria in their gut,” Dr.Rinke said.It's hoped this bio-upcycling will promote plastic waste recycling and reduce landfills.Researchers said they aim to grow the gut bacteria in the lab and further test its ability to degrade polystyrene.Then they can look into how to upscale this process to a level required for an entire recycling plant.

Human speech contains more than 2,000 different sounds, from the common “m” and “a” to the rare clicks of some southern African languages.But why are certain sounds more common than others?A ground-breaking, five-year study shows that diet-related changes in human bite led to new speech sounds that are now found in half the world's languages.
