Spring is a wonderful season to celebrate rebirth and new life. The long, cold winter is over. The weather is warmer and sunnier. The trees again have leaves and the flowers are blooming. The season represents hope, joy and beauty. At this time, many people think of this classical music piece — Spring, which shows happiness. Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi wrote it in the seventeen hundreds.
However, not all songs about spring are happy. This song written and sung by K.D. Lang is about dreaming of spring in cold dark places. She recorded I Dream of Spring in 2008.
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein wrote It Might as Well Be Spring for the movie State Fair in 1945. Frank Sinatra sings it. It is a feeling of restlessness or excitement brought on by the coming of spring. Richard Rodgers also wrote Spring Is Here, this time with Lorenz Hart. Ella Fitzgerald sings this song about feeling lonely during this season.
Frank Loesser wrote the sad song, Spring Will be a Little Late This Year. Why has the season been delayed Because the singer’s lover has left her. Sarah Vaughn released(发行) her version of the song in 1953.
By now you may be thinking, “Enough with the sad songs, already!” Ok, then how about a cowboy song Gene Autry was one of America’s most famous singing cowboys. He recorded When It’s Spring time in the Rockies in 1937.
And finally, we’ll leave you with a sunny song called Up Jumped Spring. Freddie Hubbard wrote this jazz song in 1977 and Billy Taylor Trio performed it.

By far the most common difficulty in study is simple failure to get down to regular concentrated work. This difficulty is much greater for those who do not work to a plan and have no regular routine of study. Many students muddle along(无计划地进行), doing a bit of this subject or that, as the mood takes them, or letting their set work pile up until the last possible moment.
Few students work to a set timetable. They say that if they did work out a timetable for themselves they would not keep to it, or would have to change it frequently, since they can never predict from one day to the next what their activities will be.
No doubt some students take much more kindly to a regular routine than others. There are many who shy away from a self-controlled weekly timetable, and dislike being tied down to a fixed program of work. Many able students state that they work in cycles. When they become interested in a topic they work on it attentively for three or four days at a time. On other days they avoid work completely. It has to be admitted that we do not fully understand the motivation to work. Most people over 25 years of age have become used to a work routine, and the majority of really productive workers set aside regular hours for the more important areas of their work. The “tough-minded” school of workers doesn’t fully accept the idea that good work can only be done naturally, under the influence of inspiration.
Those who believe that they need only work and study as the fit takes them have a mistaken belief either in their own talent or in the value of “freedom”. Freedom from control and discipline(纪律)leads to unhappiness rather than to “self-expression” or “personality development”. Our society insists on regular habits, timekeeping and punctuality (being on time), and whether we like it or not, if we mean to make our way in society, we have to meet its demands.
48.The most widespread problem in applying oneself to study is __________ .
A. changing from one subject to another
B. the failure to keep to a set timetable of work
C. the unwillingness to work out a systematic plan
D. working on a subject only when one feels like it
49. Which of the following is TRUE
A. Many students are not interested in using a self-controlled timetable.
B. Many students don’t like being told to study to a fixed timetable.
C. Most people over 25 years of age don’t work to a set timetable.
D. Tough-minded people agree that good work is done naturally.
50. The underlined part “as the fit takes them” means __________.
A. when they have the energy B. when they are in the mood
C. when they feel fit D. when they find conditions suitable
51. A suitable title for the passage might be __________.
A. Attitudes to Study B. A Study Plan
C. The Difficulties of Studying D. Study and Self-discipline

There are many ways of defining success. It is accurate to say that each of us has our own ideas of success to the extent that each of us is responsible for setting our own goals and determining whether we have met these goals satisfactorily. Because each of us possesses unique differences in genetic ability and favorable environments in which to express these abilities, it is necessarily true that we must define success broadly.
For some people, simply being able to live their life with the least misery and sufferings is considered a success. Think of the peace of mind of the poor shepherd who tends his sheep, enjoys his simple life with his family in the beauty of nature, and who is respected because he does a good job of achieving the goals expected of him and accepted by his family and his society. On the other hand, it seems that even though some people appear to be rich in material possessions, many of them seem to be miserable and consider themselves unsuccessful when judged by their own standards of success. Because not all ventures can be successful, one should not set unrealistic goals for achieving success, but if one has self-confidence it would be unfortunate to set one's goals at too low a level of achievement.
A wise man once said to a young man who was experiencing frustration (挫折)with his own professional success, “You do not have to set your goal to reach the moon in order to have success in traveling. Sometimes one can be very successful merely by taking a walk in the park or riding the subway downtown,” The man added, "You have not really failed and spoiled your chances for success until you have been unsuccessful at something you really like, and to which you have given your best effort. ”
52. According to the first paragraph, what is implied as basic in achieving success
A. Ability and goals. B. Goals and determination.
C. Ability and environment. D. Goals and environment.
53. Some rich people consider themselves unsuccessful because ______.
A. their life is busy and miserable
B. they haven't reached their own standards
C. they set their goals at too low a level
D. they are not rich in material possessions
54. From the last paragraph we can tell that ______.
A. success means achieving great goals
B. success comes from great goal setting
C. success means efforts and favorites pay off
D. success has nothing to do with the distance of your travel
55. The purpose of the passage is ______.
A. to give us a clear definition of what success is
B. to talk about how to achieve success
C. to state what our life goal is
D. to discuss the importance of goals

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research. 56____ Try the following steps:
1. Calm yourself.
57 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
2. Don’t wait for an apology.
Many times the persons who hurt you do not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way. 58 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
3. Take the control away from your offender (冒犯者).
Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of piling your sad feelings in your heart, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
4. 59
If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender’s point of view.
5.Don’t forget to forgive yourself.
60 But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don’t do it.
A. Why should you forgive
B. How should you start to forgive
C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D. Try to see things from your offender’s angle.
E. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F. To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.
G. If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.
