Some argue that the Internet encourages loneliness. In recent years, many have argued that human interaction(互动) has 41 because of those who replace in-person interaction with virtual bursts of conversation on social media and forums. While the Internet has certainly 42 the way we communicate, there seems to be more evidence to the contrary: people are 43 than ever and the reality is that no one lives in a vacuum(真空) where the Internet serves as their only 44 with others.
Despite the 45 about Internet loneliness, recent studies show that people who socialize over the Internet are not less 46 in face-to-face situations. 47 , a report from the Pew Research Center shows that social networkers are more socially encouraged both online and offline than people who do not participate in social networks.
48 , research shows that the vast majority of families spend time together online. 87% of home Internet users go online with 49 members regularly. This means that the Internet is not 50
the isolated(孤立的) activity that many 51 it to be. Families use the Internet to stay in contact during the 52 . when they come home after work, they talk to each other. It turns out that the Internet develops connectedness rather than isolation between those who 53 together.
Finally, the Internet is 54 we make of it. People have 55 habits, and technology can either increase or 56 them, depending on how we 57 it. We often blame human problems on technology---- when the television made its way into households we thought it would be harmful to our minds. Yet, our minds haven’t been completely 58 and we’re still here. The 59 problem with our society is not the Internet but people. We can be our own worst 60 or our own best friend, and the Internet can help us become either one.

Wanna hear a joke? This nifty(俏皮的) little robot’s got a few---and it can tell if you’re interested.
Recently the Japanese company Hitachi has invented a robot that has its own sense of humor and the ability to understand when someone else doesn’t share it.
The red-and-white robot is known as EMIEW2. It stands at 80 centimeters---no taller than a small child---an is equipped with a pair of roller skates that allow it to quickly move around. The robot is programmed to recognize key words in a sentence, such as “how many”, in order to understand what sort of question it’s being asked.
The little robot is further programmed to understand a wide range of human responses, such as shrugs or nods. It has the ability to carry on a short conversation with a human---without being given a script (剧本) and it allows the robot to work out whether or not the person it’s talking to understands its joke. For example, the robot is asked how many people work at the Hitachi lab, and it answers, “We has two swans.” When its human conversation partner appears puzzled, the robot says, “You got it? I’m kidding. We have about 800 people working here.”
“Maybe EMIEW2’s sense of humor needs a lot of work,” said Hitachi’s Hisashi Ikeda, “its ability to understand human reactions was an important step forward.” “The new technology makes it possible for a robot to understand what a human means, even if they gesture,” he said.
EMIEW2 is short for Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as a Workmate(具有卓越的灵活性和交互性的工作伴侣). Hitachi hopes to have EMIEW2 provide company to people, serving as a house-pet or even a receptionist or caregiver.

B. the robot tells perfect jokes
C. the robot can answer whatever questions you ask
D. the robot will be a perfect house or office helper in the future

A famous theory suggests that practising any skill for 10,000 hours is enough to make you an expert. No innate(天生的) talent? Not a problem. You just practise. But is it true?
One man who has decided to put this to the test is Dan McLaughlin, 34, a former commercial photographer from Portland, Oregon.
“This idea came in 2009. I was visiting my brother and we decided to play golf,” he says. “I had never really been on a golf course and went out and shot a 57, whish is horrible.”
Far from being discouraged by his obvious lack of any natural talent for golf, Dan and his brother started talking about what it would take to become a professional golfer. Dan soon decided he wanted to try.
“When I announced I was going to quit my job, my co-workers started bringing books in and I read Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, Geoff Colvin’s Talent is Overated and The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle,” he says. “these books all had this idea of 10,000 hours in them.”
The 10,000-hour concept can be traced back to a 1993 paper written by Anders Ericsson, a professor at the University of Colorado, called The Role of Deliberate Practice in the Acquistion of Expert Performance. It is Malcom Gladwell’s hugely popular book, Outliers, that is largely responsible for introducing “the 10,000-hour rule” to a mass audience.
It highlighted the work of a group of psychologists in Berlin, who had studied the practice habits of violin students in childhood, adolescence and adulthood.
All had begun playing at about five years of age with similar practice times. However, at age eight, practice times began to diverge(不同). By age 20, the elite(精英) performers had averaged more than 10,000 hours of practice each, while the less able performers had only done 4,000 hours of practice each.
The psychologists didn’t see any naturally gifted performers appear and this surprised them. If natural talent had played a role it wouldn’t have been unreasonable to expect gifted performers to appear aftyer, say, 5,000 hours.
Anders Ericsson concluded that “many characteristics once believed to reflect innate talent are actually the result of intense practice extended for a minimum of 10 year.”
If Dan’s plan goes well he could be mixing it with the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in 2018. if not, he will just be a good golfer.
64. It can be inferred from the passage that Dan McLaughlin ____________.
A. has been passionate about golf
B. likes challenging new things
C. is a failure as a photographer
D. isn’t supported by his friends
65. who first introduced the 10,000-hour concept to the public?
A. Geoff Colvin. B. Daniel Coyle. C. Anders Ericsson. D. Malcolm Gladwell.
66. What made the Berlin psychologists surprised in their study?
A. That the elite performers practised so much.
B. That practice time varied greatly from person to person.
C. That the less able performers didn’t practise long enough.
D. That no gifted performers appeared within a shorter period.
67. According to this passage, we can draw a conclusion that _____________.
A. The sparrow near the school sings the primer.
B. Actions speak louder than words
C. Practice makes perfect
D. A little learning is a dangerous thing
C
Media reports suggest Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will try to promote Shinkansen bullet train technology during his visit to the United States (which started on April 26) to cash in on(靠…赚钱) the US’ plans to prop up its economy with high-speed railway.
Obviously, Japan is competing with China to get a share of the high-speed train market in US and some other countries. So which country has the upper hand?
China may be a latecomer in high-speed train construction, but some of its technologies are better than other countries’. For example, one exquisite technological requirement is that the surface of the rails that touches the wheels must be delicately clean while the track geometry should be smooth, because even the minutest flaw could shake a train considering its high speed.
This is just one of the areas in which China excels(超过别人) ---- the rails on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed train line are so smooth that the test train reached speeds of 380 kilometers an hour without any evident shaking.
On another technological index(指标) ---- degree of ride comfort ---- China’s high-speed trains’ record is good, too. Every train has to pass strict even severe tests before being pressed into service to ensure passengers enjoy the maximum comfort.
Many passengers who have traveled by high-speed trains in China and Europe say the former are better. On other indexes such as dynamic safety, too, China’s high-speed railways show good performance.
Besides, China’s high-speed railways cost the least in the world. It is globally acknowledged that, the cost of building high-speed railways is the lowest in China.
In October 2014, while bidding for the Boston subway program, China CNR Corporation Limited, quoted a price that was only about 60 percent that of its Japanese competitor Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
The incident prompted(引起) Japanese enterprises to accuse China of "dumping(倾销)", though without any basis. China’s high-speed railways cost less because of the low cost of labor in the country. High-speed railways require civil and electrical engineering, and all kinds of physical labor, which cost much more in a fast aging society like Japan.
Also, the low cost of China’s high-speed railways has a lot to do with the lower requirement of profit.
Of course, the Japanese too have their advantages. Masaki Ogata, executive vice-chairman of East Japan Railway Company, said in a recent interview, Shinkansen technology can prevent damage to high-speed railways during earthquakes, and has advantages in environmental protection and noise control.
In short, China’s high-speed railways are good in quality and competitive in price, and will definitely be better in the future.
68. Which of the following has the similar of the underlined phrases “the upper hand” in the second paragraph?
A. authority B. weakness C. advantage D. disadvantage
69. China’s high-speed railways will definitely be better in the future because of high quality and _____.
A. degree of ride comfort B. dynamic safety
C. environmental protection and noise control D. the lowest building cost
70. Competing with China in high-speed railways, Japan has its own weakness ---- ___________.
A. fast aging society B. low cost of labor
C. low requirement of profit D. low developing economy
71. The best title for the passage is __________________.
A. Japan wants to get a share of high-speed rail market in America.
B. China leads in many high-speed rail aspects
C. Japanese enterprises accused China of "dumping"
D. China’s high-speed railways cost the least in the world
D
I was building shelves in my garage when a neighbor girl, one of my 5-year-old daughter’s friends, approached me and said, “I just saw in your house. It’s pretty dirty. Norah’s mommy needs to clean more.”
What really sucks about what 5-year-olds say is that they are 100 percent honest. And indeed, our house was a mess. At the time, I could probably have listed a million reasons to explain our messy house. But none of those excuses really matter, because there seems to be no justifiable excuse for having a messy house.
We always have random kids hanging out in our living room, eating our food, and making messes by getting out our toys and not putting them back. We also have a new baby, probably the biggest reason for our messy house
There are people with messier houses. I’ve seen them. And when I was young, I’d go to these houses, and say rotten things like, “I just saw in your house. It’s pretty dirty.”
Then I’d run home, and tell my mother about it, and we’d laugh and judge these messy house people. My mother would say things like, “Doesn’t she care about her kids? Or her home?” It always came down to blaming the mother.
Although we live in an age of partnership and equality, where a stay-at-home dad is not that unusual, no matter what the dynamics of the family, people still blame my wife for our messy home.
I suppose I know this because I, too, used to blame my wife for our messy house. Shortly after she became a stay-at-home mom, I started getting really judgmental. I started looking at the state of the house and thinking, “You have one job! One job! To take care of the home.”
I never considered the fact that kids just don’t care if you dust. When I was a stay-at-home dad, I’d sweep beneath the table, and 10 minutes later, it was dirty again. I’d have the kids put their toys away before bed, and by morning, before I even got up, they were back out.
I don’t want to speak for your kids, but my kids are remarkable mess makers.
A few years ago, Mel and I got into an argument about the house. I told her it was embarrassing. I asked her what she did all day. “It really can’t be that hard to keep the house clean,” I said.
We got into a huge fight. Mel told me something that really hit home. She said, “Sometimes it comes down to a choice between cleaning the house, and taking Tristan and Norah to the park. Or spending time having fun with them, or teaching them to read or write. Sometimes I can either do the dishes, or teach our son how to ride a bike, or our daughter how to walk. I’d rather not be that mom who ignores our kids, and myself, because I’m so busy worrying about what the neighbors might think of our messy house.”
I stopped looking at the dirty dishes, assuming that they were evidence of Mel sitting around all day. Instead, I got up myself and started washing the dishes. I realized that this was not her mess, but our mess, and I started pitching in more.
I stopped worrying about the house, and started paying attention to the development of our children. I started to pay attention to how happy they were, and the kind of relationship they shared with their mother, and I noticed that we have a messy house, and really happy, bright kids.
I’m not saying that if you have a clean house, you are doing something wrong. But what I am saying is that I don’t judge my wife for teaching my son how to swim, rather than cleaning the living room. I don’t judge her for potty training my daughter rather than clearing the table. And I don’t think you should look down on stay-at-home moms with a messy house, because chances are, they are using that time wisely.
72. What can be the main reason for the author’s messy house?
A. He is too busy to clean it.
B. The family are at ease with the messy house.
C. There are little kids in the family.
D. The author’s wife is tired of cleaning it.
73. In general, people _____________________.
A. don’t care about a messy house
B. forgive the housekeeper for the messy house
C. hold that there is always some reasons for a messy house
D. believe in no case should a house be messy
74. What does the author think of his wife now?
A. She hates doing housework.
B. She takes on a hard job taking care of the home.
C. She doesn’t know how to keep a house clean.
D. She has no excuse for the messy house.
75. Nowadays the author ____________.
A. would clean the house rather than take care of the kids
B. has been used to living with the house in a mess
C. doesn’t judge his wife by what she is really doing
D. has come to understand his wife and give a hand to her
