My fitness journey started when I couldn’t fit into my coats and weighed 176 pounds. This was my wake-up call. I was overweight, unhappy, and struggling to get back to health and happiness. I needed to be healthy again, so I decided to lose weight and regain control of my life.
I started working out and lost 40 pounds in two months. I was 33 with two kids. My journey started but I had much more to do. I ran marathons but grew bored of them, so I stepped up the challenge: and competed in triathlons (三项全能) for the next five years. I thought I discovered my passion. I’m a fierce competitor and enjoy racing even more. At 38, I was unable to compete and train at the level I desired. I was fearful of being lost and unhappy again.
As I was leaving the weights area one day, a girl asked if I competed in body building. I told her I didn’t and she said I should. This was the start of my new passion. I approached a bodybuilder at the gym and asked him about the sport and he convinced me to train for my first figure show.
I won every class I entered. I demanded a great deal from my body and aimed to improve before every competition, I maintained 10-11 percent body fat all year round. I have added 10 pounds: of muscle in the past four years.

A fire swallowed a warehouse (仓库) on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, threatening to spread to a historic World War II-era ship before firefighters controlled it. One firefighter got a hand injury while battling the fire.
After the fire, investigators searched the building to determine whether homeless people were inside. “We’re trying to confirm if anybody is in this building,” San Francisco Fire Lt. Jonathan Baxter said. “Nobody is supposed to be in the building and we are hoping that there is no victim.”
However, at least two workers were inside the warehouse when the fire broke out before dawn. Alejandro Arellano was cleaning out a fish storage locker when the fire began shortly after 4 a.m. “I saw a lot of smoke. A few minutes later, fire was everywhere,” he said. “It was very scary. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
More than 130 firefighters fought the fire, some using ladder trucks to drench (浸湿) the warehouse from above. A fireboat was used to protect a ship that stormed Normandy on D-Day in 1944. The ship is among numerous tourist attractions on the wharf. Coast Guard crewmembers and police assisted by keeping other ships away.
Shops and restaurants on the wharf have been shut in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus (冠状病毒) and were expected to reopen on May 31. Fishing companies said the fire worsened an already tough business climate. Kenny Belov, owner of the seafood wholesaler TwoXSea, said his building near the warehouse was not damaged but he worried the fish in his freezer could be ruined. Fire investigators were still assessing the damage and were looking into the cause.

A foreign language app with more than 300 million users is marking: Columbus Day, which is alternatively recognized as Indigenous (土著的) Peoples’ Day, by 1aunching classes in two native languages.

We have lost around 600 languages in the last 100 years and as many as 90 percent of the world’s languages could extinct by the end of the century, according to the United Nations Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues.

And that’s how it should be.”
Duolingo’s new indigenous curricula (课程) aren’t full. courses like for English or Spanish or German, but are starting as a sort of boot camps to expand later. It’s expensive for apps to develop courses for smaller languages because the classes, must use recordings of real people speaking the language. In contrast, courses for more, common tongues such as English, Spanish or German can use computerized voices.

A. By holding a ceremony.
B. By asking people to attend classes.

Many of the stories that I read on HelpOthers are all about helping other people, doing actsof kindness for someone else. Often times it's easy to forget that no matter who you are, you're not always the giver. Sometimes it's we who receive that random act of kindness. When it happens, it almost feels odd(古怪的) to some extent that you are on the other end-receiving vs giving. In some way, it can be quite a humbling(使谦恭) experience.

Women over 40 needs to know that it’s possible to achieve our dreams. It’s about choices. Age isn’t a factor. If you want it, you have to work for it. If it were handed to you, it wouldn’t be sweet or unique.

Dear editor.
I’m Li Hua and I’m writing to introduce my favorite sport. Among all the sports, I like basketball most. I like it for several reasons.
First, it is easy to do. I don’t need special equipment or skills. All I need is a ball and a pair of comfortable shoes. Second, it can build up my body and help my keep fit. While playing it, I bum the extra fat and strengthen my muscles. Third, it teaches the importance of teamwork. In order to win the game, I have learned to share and work with my partners.
Such is my favorite sport.

My daughter and I had gone into Subway one evening to get sandwiches for the two of us, plus one for my wife. Before going to Subway, I had checked my bank account to make sure that I had money on my debit card. I had moved what I thought to be several hundred dollars to my ing out in a hurry, I never confirmed the transaction and so I actually had no money in my account.
When I stepped up to cash register to pay for our sandwiches, my debit card got rejected. I stood there telling the cashier it had to be a mistake. So they ran it again. REJECTED!!! Well, I was sure most pecple have been in this isort of situation and how embarrassing it could be. Of course, there was a long line of people waiting, hearing this whole thing. Behind me, I noticed there was a young man in his mid-20's. I asked the cashier to hold the sandwiches and that I would come back for them. I went out to my car and called my son, asking him to check my account on line. Well, I learned I never actually moved the money.
I was explaining to my son what he needed to do to put money into my account when all of a sudden there was a knock at my car window. The young man who had been standing behind me in line was standing there holding a bag. I was surprised and wondered what was going on.
