Earthquakes happen without warning. They can happen any time of a day, at any point during the year. But don't worry because most are so weak that they cannot be felt. Only a few big ones hurt people. However, it's important to know what to do when an earthquake is happening.
Do not go outside. You could get injured from falling glass or parts of buildings. If you are outside, stay away from buildings and power lines (输电线).
Stay under a desk, table, or other strong furniture. Hold on to it. Or stay in a corner of the building. Cover your face and head with your arms and cover your mouth with a towel or clothing. Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside.
Keep away from windows, pictures or advertisements on the wall or the building, and anything else that could fall and hurt you. Most people get injured by falling things during an earthquake, not by the shaking itself.
Also keep away from a fire. You could fall down and burn yourself on the fire.
If you are driving when an earthquake happens, stop the car if it's safe. Stay inside your car until the earthquake stops, and don't drive near bridges. Try not to stop by power lines or trees. These could fall and hurt you.

Toilet paper as we know it today is a relatively modern invention that's only been around for about 150 years. It s natural to wonder what was used before modern toilet paper. Toilet paper in its ancient form dates back to China in at least the 6th century. Although paper itself appeared long before that time.
In ancient times, many kinds of materials(材料) were used instead of toilet paper. For example, sand was used by people who settled near the desert(沙漠); grass was used by people living in the grassland. Some other things known to have been used included: fur, leaves, rocks, snow, and so on. Of course, it wasn’t uncommon for people to go to the bathroom in a small river.
They might have used a cloth or their hands to clean themselves afterward. For many people, that might have been preferable to the method used by ancient Romans: a sponge(海绵)on a stick kept in saltwater...and shared by everyone using public bathrooms.
Luckily for us, Joseph Gayetty created the first toilet paper in 1857. His “Gayetty's Medicated Paper” didn’t become popular soon, however, since the public was used to using materials they got for free rather than spending money on toilet paper. The rolled toilet paper we’re familiar with today appeared in the 1880s. It wasn’t necessarily soft like we’re now used to, though. Paper production methods would often leave splinters(刺)in toilet paper. It wasn’t until 1935 that Northern Tissue said they had made “splinter- free” toilet paper.
Other improvements in toilet paper happened over the course of the 20th Century. Larger rolls with softer paper became more popular. Today, take a trip to your local supermarket and you will find many different kinds of toilet paper. For such a widely-used, necessary invention, it isn’t given much thought...until it runs out!
32. What might decide which material ancient people used after using the bathroom
A. What they did. B. Where they lived.
C. How old they were. D. How long they used the bathroom.
33. Why was Gayetty’s Medicated Paper unpopular at first
A. Because the paper had splinters.
B. Because the paper couldn’t be shared.
C. Because people didn't want to pay for it.
D. Because people preferred rolled toilet paper.
34. How does the text mainly develop
A. By providing examples. B. By making comparisons.
C. By telling an interesting story. D. By following the order of time.
35. What would be the best title for the text
A. A great invention--toilet paper
B. Why was toilet paper invented
C. Toilet paper vs water: which to choose.
D. What did people use before toilet paper

We all make mistakes. Sometimes, it is hard to admit them. However, there is a magic power in this world that can give us the courage to do so.
I grew up in a small town in Ohio. There was a man in town that everyone seemed to know. We all called him Bob. Bob was uneducated. It seemed that because he was good-natured and not very smart, every one teased (戏弄) him.
One day when I was sitting on the porch, he came walking by. I was about 12 years old and thought it would make me feel grown up to tease him like some adults did in the town.
He asked how I was doing. I told him that my father had lost his job, and that we were short of money. I could see my friends laughing in the background so 1 went on with the lie. I had him fooled so completely that every time he asked me a question, I would make the situation seem worse and worse.I knew he made a meager (贫困的) living doing odd jobs, so it seemed funny when he asked me if we needed anything. I told him that we didn’t know if we would have enough to eat. He replied, “You poor thing. I will pray for you.”
That night I heard the door rattle (沙沙响) softly. I thought it was the wind beating against the door. So I didn’t pay much attention to it. Later when I opened the door to go outside, I realized it wasn’t wind.

【原文】Dear Jane,
I’ve just seen the first snow this winter, I mean in London. Other parts of Britain, like Scotland and the north of England, have already had some snow falls.
Do you like snow Well, I do. Snow makes me happy and excited. When it snows I love to go out for a walk and take photos. It looks beautiful when everything is covered with snow, and the view is even better from the top of a building.
However, as it is 1℃ here today, the snow won’t stay long on the ground. But I’m lucky because I have taken some photos from the roof of a friend’s house in the center of the city. In the photos you can see high buildings, but the sky looks rather foggy.
I also enjoy walking on the snow. Some people are a bit scared but I love it. Naturally you need to wear the right shoes.
Let’s hope that the snow will bring us good luck!
Yours,

【答案】32. B 33. C 34. D 35. A

After school, we practise playing basketball on a regular basis, which strengthens our bodies and enriches our campus life. Besides, playing basketball to relax after a whole day’s study can refresh our mind, thus relieving stress and enhancing learning efficiency. What’s more, basketball highlights joint efforts, which shape us into better individuals with good team spirit.

67. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

【答案】 On the doorstep, l found a box of food with a note beside it. Upon seeing the food, I knew who had sent it. My facing burning with shame, I took the box inside with care. Packed in the box were some sandwiches, a bottle of milk and some fruit. I picked up the note, on which some words were carefully written, “Sorry, I can only get you these. Hope you like them. I will always pray for you.” The moment I finished reading the note, tears rolled down my face. How could I lie to a person with such a gentle heart I knew it was time to make up for my mistake.
The next evening, with a big apple pie made by myself, I stood at the doorstep of Bob’s house. Having gathered up my courage, I knocked on the door. Bob seemed to be a little surprised when he saw me outside. He explained that it was no big deal and that I needn’t have come to thank him. I lowered my head, apologizing to him for my silly behavior. To my surprise, he just smiled and patted me on the shoulder, saying, “It’s OK. Now shall we take a bite of this yummy apple pie ” I raised my head and nodded with tears of joy. Thanks to Bob, I have learned the magic power of kindness.
