【原文】I’m Nigel. Welcome to Cape Town, South Africa. I can’t wait to show you around. It might be your first time in Africa, so let me clear up some common questions. First, of course, not everyone who lives in Africa has dark skin. This land was explored and populated by groups from Europe and Asia from around 1400-1800 AD. After that, it was controlled by the Dutch until a war in 1902. Finally, the British gave South Africa its independence in 1961. I happen to be a mix of all these different racial groups, including Asian and native African. Our history has had tension between different groups, so now we celebrate all groups’ equal treatment by honoring Nelson Mandela. He’s the former national leader who brought us together. We’ll learn more about him at his museum, which is the most significant site in Cape Town. We’ll also explore natural landscapes by hiking Table Mountain, seeing penguins in Simon’s Town, and watching waves crash at the Cape of Good Hope. But first, let’s drop your bags at the guest house.

The world’s largest iceberg (冰山) is moving toward the island of South Georgia in the southern Atlantic Ocean. Scientists fear the iceberg could crash into the island and block major feeding areas for sea animals.
The huge iceberg broke away from an ice shelf in 2017 and has since moved toward South Georgia. Satellite images show it has remained in one piece of about 150 kilometers long and 48 kilometers wide, and is on a path to hit South Georgia in around 30 days.
The British Antarctic Survey says it’s concerned. If the iceberg hits the island, it could prevent the sea animals there from reaching food supplies.
Professor Geraint Tarling says right now is the time of year when seals and penguins care for their young. This means the distance that parents have to travel to find food is important. “That means they have to go around the iceberg to find sources of food. And that time is quite important at this period of their life cycle,” Tarling said.
Scientists say an iceberg crash would possibly pollute the surrounding seas and change the area’s whole ecosystem (生态系统).
The breaking off of icebergs from Antarctica is a natural process. But the process is changing with climate change. The iceberg also could damage South Georgia’s valuable fishing industry. Fishers pay for the rights to catch Patagonian toothfish, icefish and krill in waters off the island.
Officials hope there’s a change of weather patterns, so that the iceberg could be led out into the open ocean, where it would gradually break up and melt.
28. What harm do scientists fear the iceberg could do
A. Make the sea level rise dangerously. B. Bring warmer climate to the area.
C. Cause the sea animals to freeze. D. Block the animals’ feeding areas.
29. What makes the present time important for sea animals
A. Climate change has become more serious. B. Sea animals look for food for their young.
C. The iceberg may be polluted by the seas. D. The iceberg has broken away from the shelf.
30. Why do officials hope for changing weather patterns
A. To get the iceberg into the open ocean. B. To break the iceberg into smaller parts.
C. To provide sea animals with food source. D. To help the iceberg join the ice shelf.
31. Where is the text probably from
A. A science lecture. B. A video review.
C. A travel brochure. D. An environmental report.
【答案】28. D 29. B 30. A 31. D

During the Covid-19 pandemic( 新冠疫情),things like eating in a restaurant or air travel are impossible. What about going to the gym
When everybody was discussing how to make the best banana bread, during those very early quarantine( 隔离) stages, I worked out and took some online fitness classes at home, including yoga. Honestly, I just wanted to do a cool headstand by the end of quarantine.
In high school,I liked running on the track. In college and beyond, I loved the weight room. When I finally accepted that home workouts would be the best for a while, I prepared some basic gym equipment.
In some ways, I feel it stupid to admit that I missed the gym. I’m fortunate in so many ways since the start of the pandemic, but my living room is just not the same as my gym.
There’s a wider choice of equipment, and I’ve missed my gym friends. After looking into my recently-opened local gym’s safety steps in New York, I finally decided to go back.
With a spare face mask and water bottle, I made my 10-minute journey to the gym at 7 :30 am. I filled out a detailed Covid-19 survey on my gym’s app before stepping foot inside. I always feel like I get a better workout at the gym, and for me, that includes lots of extra sweat.
Please keep your mask covering your nose and your mouth. I only saw two people wrongly wearing their masks, and an employee had to call them out. The best ways to avoid Covid-19 at the gym are to wash your hands, wear your mask, wipe down equipment, and avoid standing on top of other gym-goers. If you’re used to basic, good gym rules, it shouldn’t be too challenging.

A. A wide choice of equipment. B. The free food served there.
C. Discussion about good diet. D. No need for any face masks.
34. What advice does the author give about going to a gym
A. Avoiding standing close to the equipment.
B. Keeping a mask over your nose and mouth.
C. Taking some online classes about gym safety.
D. Choosing equipment that was challenging.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Difference Between Going to the Gym and Home Exercise
B. My Discussion with People About Good Food and Exercise
C. My Experience of Going to the Gym Since Quarantine
D. My Finding About Things to Do When Working at the Office

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The cheerful girl, Jenny, with golden hair was almost five. Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw a necklace of shining white pearls in a pink metal box. Quickly the mother checked the back of the little metal box and then looked back into the begging blue eyes of her little girl’s upturned face. “A dollar and ninety five cents. That’s almost $2. If you really want it, I’ll think of some extra housework for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy it for yourself. Besides, you might get another dollar bill from Grandma on your birthday a week away.”
After dinner back home, she did more housework and even she asked the neighbor for housework for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at least she had enough money to buy the cheap necklace from the dime store (廉价商店).
Jenny loved her pearl necklace. She wore it everywhere. The only time she took it off was when swimming.
Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night when he finished the story, he asked Jenny, “Do you love me ”
“Oh, daddy. You know that I love you.”
“Then give me your necklace.”
“Oh, daddy, not my pearl necklace. But you can have my Barbie doll — the one you gave me. She’s my favorite.”
“That’s okay, Honey. Daddy loves you. Good night.” And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.
Daddy repeated the same request about a week after the story time. However, Jenny refused and wouldn’t give up her necklace to her daddy.

With tears in his own eyes, Jenny’s kind daddy reached out one hand to take the cheap necklace.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 A few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her bed, waiting for her father. As he came home, he noticed her lips were trembling and tears rolled down her cheeks. “What’s it, Jenny What’s the matter ” Jenny didn’t say anything but lifted the metal box up with her little hand to her daddy. And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little trembling voice, she finally said, “Here, daddy. It’s for you.” She gave her treasure to her father eventually.
With tears in his own eyes, Jenny’s kind daddy reached out one hand to take the cheap necklace. Meanwhile, with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue box with a necklace made of natural pearls and gave it to Jenny. He had had it all time. He was just waiting for her to give up the cheap necklace made of artificial pearls so he could give her a real valuable treasure. Jenny was very glad to take the necklace and a big smile appeared on her face. She said, “It’s very kind of you, dad!”

In some ways I feel it stupid to admit that I missed the gym.
32. What was the author doing during the quarantine
A. Making various fruit bread.
B. Searching for ways to beat the coronavirus.
C. Going out to the office for his usual work.
D. Following online healthcare classes at home.
33. What might be the advantage of going to a gym
A. A wide choice of equipment. B. The free food served there.
C. Discussion about good diet. D. No need for any face masks.
34 What advice does the author give about going to a gym

“Then give me your necklace”
“Oh, daddy, not my pearl necklace. But you can have my Barbie doll — the one you gave me. She’s my favorite.”
“That’s okay, Honey. Daddy loves you. Good night.” And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.
Daddy repeated the same request about a week after the story time. However, Jenny refused and wouldn’t give up her necklace to her daddy.
