Joey was happy because he had many special friends—four squirrels(松鼠),two rabbits, and many colorful birds. At the mealtime, these wild animals came near to the family and they would feed these special friends.
In the large yard stood thirteen trees of different sizes. One day, while Joey was playing with his sister under the trees, he noticed that a tree trunk(树干) had a sad look. He ran into the house to tell his mom about it. She told Joey to find the reason why it was sad.
So Joey went into the yard, ran to the sad tree and asked, “Why are you unhappy ”
“I am the smallest tree around. The birds don't fly to me. The rabbits don't eat grass under me. The squirrels don't climb to my top. Nobody needs me or loves me," replied the sad tree.
After knowing the reason, the family had a meeting. Joey suggested making a seat under the sad tree. Joey's father said he could help make a seat around the tree. The family would sit under the tree and the tree wouldn't feel sad anymore.
When Joey told his special friends the tree was sad, they decided to do what they could to help make the sad tree happy again.
Early the next morning, when Joey woke up, he noticed birds singing happily in the little tree and saw squirrels running up and down in it. Rabbits were eating the fresh grass around the tree. The little tree was happy again.
Joey ran inside to tell the good news to his family. Joey's mother and father went into the yard and saw the happy tree.

How do you greet your friends People from different cultures have different answers: shaking hands, nodding, bowing, kissing on the face. But have you ever wondered how animals “say hello” to each other Here are some examples.
Everyone knows how similar chimpanzees(黑猩猩) are to humans. So it's no surprise that their greetings are also close to ours. The most common ways of greeting between chimpanzees are hand touching and hugging. Sometimes they also kiss each other. Some chimpanzees can even learn simple sign language.
Giraffes seldom make loud sounds. Their necks can reach two meters in length, making them useful in greeting each other. When two giraffes meet, they may“shake" their necks and rub(摩擦) them against each other. This is to feel how strong and tall the other is.
Dolphins greet one another with whistles(哨声). They can hear other dolphins from many kilometers away. Every dolphin has a different whistle. When two groups of dolphins meet, they each choose a member to “talk" to the other group. The two groups can then travel together. Unlike most of the other animals, dolphins are smart enough to learn a new language by inventing and copying new sounds.

Sleep is a physical and mental(精神的) need. We all need to sleep, though the sleep hours are different from person to person. Doctors do not know why we need sleep, but they all agree that sleep is very important to us. Without enough sleep, the body may be weak.
One-third of adults have sleeplessness. There are over 80 kinds of sleep-related disorders(失调). However, other adults are lucky and have no sleeping problems. They sleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows. Do you sleep well If you have sleeplessness, here are a few suggestions.
Make a timetable, and stick to it.
We need to sleep at regular times. If your bedtime and wake- up time change from day to day or on weekends, your sleep rhythms(节奏) aren't predicted and the body doesn't know how to act. So it's important to have a regular wake-up time, even on weekends, vacations or after a night of poor sleep.
Don't lie in bed awake.
"The best sleep tip you can give somebody is to get up—don't lie in bed awake," sleep expert Grandner said. "Whether it's the beginning of the night or the middle of the night, if you've been awake for 20 or 30 minutes, get up and reset(重新调整).Maybe you just need five minutes to get sleepy, or maybe an hour, but don't spend that time awake in bed.”
Change your thinking about sleep.
“Many people regard sleeping as the final thing they have to do for daily activities. They would like to work or watch TV very late rather than sleep on time. That thinking needs to be changed,” Grandner said.
“Don't see your sleep as the time you have left in your day,”he advised. "See your sleep as the time you need in order to prepare yourself for an energetic(精力充沛的)tomorrow.”
“It may sound like a small change in thinking, but it's an important one," Grandner added.
51. What may happen to the body without enough sleep
A. The body may be weak. B. The body may be heavy.
C. The body may be awake. D. The body may be strong.
52. The first suggestion in the passage tells us___________.
A. it's not necessary to sleep regularly
B. it's not necessary to wake up regularly
C. we should always sleep and wake up regularly
D. we should sleep and wake up regularly on weekdays
53. If you've been awake for 20 or 30 minutes at night, the best sleep tip is_____________.
A. closing your eyes and lying on the bed B. getting up and resetting
C. drinking some hot tea D. using a smartphone and turning off the light

B. Sleep-related Disorders

Some people believe that humans could live on the planet Mars by the year 2100. Our own planet, the Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. It is hoped that people could start all over again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life there could be like.
At present, our spacecraft are too slow to carry large numbers of passengers to Mars—it would take months. With the development of technology, by the year 2100, the journey might only take about 20 minutes in spacecraft that travel at the speed of light! However, the spacecraft would travel really fast, so the journey to Mars might be quite uncomfortable. Many people would feel ill.
Humans can't live without water, air or food. So far, nobody knows whether there would be enough water or air on Mars for people. Moreover, scientists are not sure whether plants could grow on Mars. Food would most probably be in the form of pills(药片) and would not be so tasty.
Compared with life on the earth, life on Mars would be better in some ways. People would have more space. They might live in houses with huge comfortable rooms. Also, robots would do a lot of their work so that they could have more time to relax. There would probably be no schools on Mars. Every student would study at online schools with “e-teachers".
Life on Mars would be interesting and challenging. However, it may take hundreds of years to make it true. So the most important thing we need to do now is to protect our beautiful blue planet—the Earth!
56. Why would people move to Mars
A. Because the earth is crowded and polluted.
B. Because they want to challenge themselves.
C .Because flying to Mars would be fun.
D. Because plants could grow better there.

A. Spaceships. B. Hot-air balloons. C. Space stations. D. Planes.
58. What would the flight to Mars be like by the year 2100
A. Fast and enjoyable. B. Fast but uncomfortable.
C. Slow and boring. D. Slow but comfortable.
59. What can we learn from the passage
A. There would be enough water and air on Mars for people.
B. Food on Mars would be more delicious than that on the earth.
C. People would be busy with work on Mars.
D. The writer thinks living on Mars would be full of challenges.
60. What's the best title for the passage
A. Schools on Mars B. Food on Mars
C. Life on Mars D. Environment on the Earth

With the development of the technology, people live a much better life than before. But the environmental problems are getting worse and worse. It is bad for our life, so it is important to build a zero-waste city.
As students, we should take action to make our city more beautiful. First of all, we should not throw away the rubbish. When we have rubbish at hand, we should keep the habit to throw it into the dustbin. At the same time, we should also sort the waste. Second, we should go to school on foot or by bike. It isn't only good for the environment but also exercises our body. Third, it is better for us to bring our bags when we go shopping.
I believe that our city will be better if we work together.
