I have worked as a keeper at the National Zoo for 11 years. Spot and Stripe are the first tiger cubs(幼兽)that have ever been born here. Globally, a third of Sumatran cubs in zoos don't make it to adulthood, so I decided to give them round-the-clock care at home.
I've got two children — the younger one, Kynan, was extremely happy about the tigers arriving — but all of us really looked forward to being part of their lives and watching them grow. I wasn't worried about bringing them into my home with my wife and kids. These were cubs. They weighed about 2.5 kg and were so small that there was absolutely no risk.
As they grew more mobile, we let them move freely around the house during the day, but when we were asleep we had to contain them in a large room, otherwise they'd get up to mischief. We'd come down in the morning to find they'd turned the room upside down, and left it looking like a zoo.
Things quickly got very intense due to the huge amount of energy required to look after them. There were some tough times and I just felt extremely tired. I was grateful that my family was there to help. We had to have a bit of a production line going, making up "tiger milk", washing baby bottles, and cleaning the floors.
When Spot and Stripe were four months old, they were learning how to open doors and jump fences, and we knew it really was time for them to go. It was hard for us to finally part with them. For the first few days, Kynan was always a bit disappointed that the cubs weren't there.
I'm not sad about it. I'm hands-on with them every day at the zoo, and I do look back very fondly on the time that we had them.
24.Why did the author bring the tiger cubs home
A.To ensure their survival.
B.To observe their differences.
C.To teach them life skills.
D.To let them play with his kids.
25.What do the underlined words "get up to mischief' mean in paragraph 3
A.Behave badly. B.Lose their way.
C.Sleep soundly. D.Miss their mom.
26.What did the author think of raising the tiger cubs at home
A.Boring. B.Tiring. C.Costly. D.Risky.
27.Why did the author decide to send Spot and Stripe back to the zoo
A.They frightened the children.
B.They became difficult to contain.
C.They annoyed the neighbours.
D.They started fighting each other.

Some parents will buy any high-tech toy if they think it will help their child, but researchers said puzzles help children with math-related skills.
Psychologist Susan Levine, an expert on mathematics development in young children at the University of Chicago, found children who play with puzzles between ages 2 and 4 later develop better spatial skills. Puzzle play was found to be a significant predictor of cognition(认知) after controlling for differences in parents' income, education and the amount of parent talk, Levine said.
The researchers analyzed video recordings of 53 child-parent pairs during everyday activities at home and found children who play with puzzles between 26 and 46 months of age have better spatial skills when assessed at 54 months of age.
"The children who played with puzzles performed better than those who did not, on tasks that assessed their ability to rotate(旋转)and translate shapes," Levine said in a statement.
The parents were asked to interact with their children as they normally would, and about half of the children in the study played with puzzles at one time. Higher-income parents tended to have children play with puzzles more frequently, and both boys and girls who played with puzzles had better spatial skills. However, boys tended to play with more complex puzzles than girls, and the parents of boys provided more spatial language and were more active during puzzle play than parents of girls.
The findings were published in the journal Developmental Science.
28.In which aspect do children benefit from puzzle play
A.Building confidence. B.Developing spatial skills.
C.Learning self-control. D.Gaining high-tech knowledge.
29.What did Levine take into consideration when designing her experiment?
A.Parents' age. B.Children's imagination.
C.Parents' education. D.Child-parent relationship.
30.How do boys differ from girls in puzzle play
A.They play with puzzles more often.
B.They tend to talk less during the game.
C.They prefer to use more spatial language.
D.They are likely to play with tougher puzzles.
31.What is the text mainly about
A.A mathematical method. B.A scientific study.
C.A woman psychologist D.A teaching program.

Terrafugia Inc. said Monday that its new flying car has completed its first flight, bringing the company closer to its goal of selling the flying car within the next year. The vehicle — named the Transition — has two seats, four wheels and wings that fold up so it can be driven like a car. The Transition, which flew at 1,400 feet for eight minutes last month, can reach around 70 miles per hour on the road and 115 in the air. It flies using a 23-gallon tank of gas and burns 5 gallons per hour in the air. On the ground, it gets 35 miles per gallon.
Around 100 people have already put down a $10,000 deposit to get a Transition when they go on sale, and those numbers will likely rise after Terrafugia introduces the Transition to the public later this week at the New York Auto Show. But don't expect it to show up in too many driveways. It's expected to cost $279,000. And it won't help if you're stuck in traffic. The car needs a runway.
Inventors have been trying to make flying cars since the 1930s, according to Robert Mann, an airline industry expert. But Mann thinks Terrafugia has come closer than anyone to making the flying car a reality. The government has already permitted the company to use special materials to make it easier for the vehicle to fly. The Transition is now going through crash tests to make sure it meets federal safety standards.
Mann said Terrafugia was helped by the Federal Aviation Administration's decision five years ago to create a separate set of standards for light sport aircraft, which are lower than those for pilots of larger planes. Terrafugia says an owner would need to pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time to be able to fly the Transition, a requirement pilots would find relatively easy to meet.
32.What is the first paragraph mainly about
A.The basic data of the Transition.
B.The advantages of flying cars.
C.The potential market for flying cars.
D.The designers of the Transition.
33.Why is the Transition unlikely to show up in too many driveways
A.It causes traffic jams. B.It is difficult to operate.
C.It is very expensive. D.It burns too much fuel.
34.What is the government's attitude to the development of the flying car
A.Cautious. B.Favorable. C.Ambiguous. D.Disapproving.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.Flying Car at Auto Show B.The Transition's First Flight
C.Pilots' Dream Coming True D.Flying Car Closer to Reality
【答案】32.A
33.C

35.D

When I was in Grade 8. I had a heated argument with my classmate. Tony. I have forgotten what the argument was about, but I have never forgotten the lesson I learned that day.
I believed that I was right and he was wrong, and Tony believed that I was wrong and he was right. Our teacher, a kind and smart lady, decided to teach us a lesson. She brought us to the front of the class and placed him on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large and round object. I could clearly see that it was black. The teacher asked us what colour the object was. To my surprise, Tony answered "white I couldn't believe he said the object was white!"Clearly, it was black!"Another argument started between Tony and me, this time about the colour of the object.
The teacher told me to go and stand where Tom was standing and told him to go and stand where I was standing.
My teacher taught me a very important lesson that day.

We changed places, and now she asked me what color the object was.运用了并列句,宾语从句;Surprisingly, I had to admit it changed its color and I had to answer, "White". 运用了宾语从句,并列句;It was an object with two differently colored sides-from his side it was white, while from my side it was black. 运用了省略;When you disagree with others, you'd better be in their shoes. 运用了时间状语从句; I was very grateful for my teacher because of the lesson that was taught to me.运用了限制性定语从句。
