Snowboarding genius Su Yiming made a name for himself by winning China’s first Olympic gold in the sport on Tuesday. By cleanly stomping back-to-back 1800 tricks, the teenager landed the biggest prize so far in his young career—gold in the men’s Big Air at the Beijing Winter Olympics. The notable achievement realized a childhood dream to reach the peak of the sport, which he began to learn at the age of 4.
Now with two shinning medals hung around his neck, the 17-year-old described his superb Olympic debut (首秀) as an unbelievable experience that has made all his sacrifices worthwhile. “This feels so surreal that I’ve finally accomplished what I’ve dreamed of since I was little,” said an emotional Su.
Over the past four years Su has combined his talent with hard work to produce one of the swiftest rises to prominence the sport has ever seen. When the Shougang Big Air venue hosted its first international event, Su was an unknown qualifier, who didn’t even make the final runs. Just over two years later, Su is the name on everyone’s lips at the venue s Olympic debut—drawing the whole nation’s attention to the sport he loves.
“The biggest motivation (动力) for me is my love for snowboarding,” Su said, when asked about the secret to his success. “In snowboarding, I feel like I can show my own style and creativity. Every time I ride my board, it’s always a joyful moment. I hope through my experience, I can inspire more young people to get interested in the sport.”
Su, a former child actor who featured in action movies, said the Olympic gold will encourage him to seek for more breakthroughs—even beyond his athletic career. “I enjoy snowboarding just as much as I enjoy acting,” said Su, who turns 18 on Friday. “I think I still have a lot of possibilities to explore in my future career either in snowboarding or in acting. But now I just want to enjoy the moment and celebrate it as the best possible birthday gift.”

Oliver, the CTO of a high-tech company, loved to participate in all conversations at the C-suite level, regardless of topic. He was often the first to raise his hand for a project, appeared to have infinite capacity to get high-quality work done, and offered to assist his peers and direct reports. Oliver seemed to be all-in; optimistic, energetic, supportive, and someone who constituted to everyone.
However, the more Oliver participated, the more others around him were slighted. Instead of sparking creatively in others, his ideas outshone everyone else’s. He consumed time speaking in meetings, exhausting the oxygen level in the room. Oliver felt pumped up by how many of his ideas had been deployed but frustrated by others’ lack of sufficient effort.
While the CEO appreciated Oliver’s yield, she recognized he had to change his approach to keep the rest of the team productive. In response, Oliver worked out a plan to help address his cooperation challenges using techniques many other executives had deployed.
When we over-participate, we believe that we're being helpful. However, “helpfulness” is defined by the recipient, not the giver. Instead of improving his relationships with colleagues, Oliver robbed them of fulfillment by furnishing masses of ideas. They felt discouraged, interrupted, and excluded. To fix the issue, Oliver learned the value of asking two specific questions before offering his own ideas: “What have you thought of ” and “What would be most helpful for you at this point ” Surveying others to understand what’s helpful illuminates better avenues for our contribution: directly through our ideas, through coaching colleagues to create their own, or by building on what someone else has generated.
29. What can we learn about Oliver
A. He lacks creativity. B. He favours competition.
C. He works enthusiastically. D. He behaves irresponsibly.
30. What is a result of Oliver’s over-participation
A. The team generated more diverse ideas.
B. Oliver’s colleagues became less productive.
C. Group meetings were more time-consuming.
D. Oliver’s teammates were inspired to work harder.
31. What technique did Oliver employ to fix the issue
A. Hearing others’ voices. B. Providing specific ideas.
C. Strengthening his leadership. D. Building strong relationships.
32. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. When Leaders Fail to Keep the Team Productive
B. When Contributing Gets in the Way of Cooperating
C. How a Great Team Welcomes Ideas in a Discussion
D. How Active Participation Gives Rise to a Better Team

Tom has an aunt who lives in a far-off village. He hadn’t seen her for two years and he really missed her.
Tom spent a lot of time with his aunt when he was a little boy. At that time, his parents were too busy with their work, so they sent him to his aunt. It was his aunt who took care of him for a long time. He remembered that back then a girl sometimes played with him. But he couldn’t remember her clearly. After all, it was so many years before.
Last week, Tom decided to visit his aunt. And he called her first.
“Hello, Auntie. This is Tom. How are you ” asked Tom over the phone.
“I’m fine, Tom. Thanks. I’m just a bit lonely,” said Tom’s aunt. Hearing that, he knew he had made a right decision.
“I’m coming this weekend. I want to spend the weekend with you,” he immediately said, thinking his aunt would be surely full of joy.
“Really That’s great! I miss you so much,” his aunt said excitedly.
Tom set off on Friday afternoon. He thought he would arrive by taxi in the evening, but there was an accident on the road and all the traffic was stopped for almost an hour. When he got off the bus, it was getting dark.
It’s a ten-minute walk from the bus station to his aunt’s house. The village had experienced a lot of changes. Tom looked around curiously. Just at that moment, another bus stopped and a girl got off the bus. The girl passed by Tom and began to walk into the village. Thinking that his aunt was waiting for him, Tom began to walk into the village, too.
He walked behind the girl. After about two minutes, it seemed that the girl noticed him. She looked back hurriedly, and then continued to walk. Moments later, the girl looked back again and then quickened her pace.

Paragraph 2:
Clearly, it frightened the girl even more. She was so scared that she started running. She ran faster and faster and finally stopped in front of a house. She knocked on the door hard, trying to ask for help. Surprisingly, it was Tom’s aunt who opened the door. Seeing the scene, Tom’s aunt immediately laughed and explained the truth to the girl. The girl was embarrassed and said sorry to Tom. Then they recognised each other. The girl was whom Tom played with as a little boy. What a small world!

Over the past four years, Su has combined his talent with hard work to produce one of the swiftest rises to prominence the sport has ever seen.
