While-listening
Learning to learn:
When you visit a place for the first time, a map is a great help for you to know the place better. An online map on your mobile phone is convenient. But if you don’t have net connection when you travel, a paper map is still an option. You would be able to find one in your hotel or at the local tourist information centre. When someone is giving you directions, try to mark your destinations and draw the routes to them on the map.
Before listening, you should look at the pictures carefully to judge where the places are and mark the places mentioned in the questions;
Judge what may happen between the people in the conversations from the pictures;
Read the map to get to know the information of different places.
Task 2: : Listen again and complete the map and the information for the tourist.

Guest: Good morning.
Receptionist: Hello there. How can I help you
Guest: Well, it’s my first visit to this town. What would you suggest I see
Receptionist: I’d suggest starting with the History Museum. It has some great displays of ancient objects found in the local area.
Guest: That sounds good. Where is it
Receptionist: Here’s a map of the town. This is the hotel. Head across the square to the town hall. Walk around the town hall, and you’ll see the History Museum behind it, right between the theatre and the sports centre.
Guest: When does it open
Receptionist: It opens at half past nine in the morning.
Guest: Great! And could you recommend anywhere to eat
Receptionist: Oh yes, there are lots of good restaurants in the town centre. You could go to this one here. It’s called Paul’s Restaurant and it serves delicious fish and chips. It’s on East Road, next to the post office.
Guest: That’s perfect because I’d like to send some postcards, too.
Receptionist: Is there anything else I can help you with
Guest: Actually, I’m here for four days. Are there any events happening in town or nearby
Receptionist: Well, you’ve arrived just in time for the boat race between Oxford and Cambridge universities. It starts tomorrow afternoon and takes place on the River Thames in West London.
Guest: That sounds great. How will I know which team is which
Receptionist: Oh, that’s easy—Oxford always wears dark blue and Cambridge light blue.
Guest: OK. How can I get there
Receptionist: The train station is near the hotel, at the end of Rose Road. After you get to London, I’d recommend taking the tube to Putney Bridge and watching the race from there. Make sure to get there early so that you get a good view!
Guest: Thank you so much. You’re very helpful.
Receptionist: Enjoy your stay. Bye!
