I have traveled to many places-the jungles where the water is unsafe; places with the wildest animals. Friends always ask why I,a middle-aged woman with no athletic talent,go to such places. I never know how to answer - Just I want to put my toes in the mud of adventure.
I stopped traveling nine years ago after I suffered a stroke (中风)caused by a disease, APS. To prevent another stroke, my doctors told me that traveling to remote places without medical help would be risky. A slip on a damp temple step, even a slight traffic accident, would no longer be mere annoyances.
My return to travel after my stroke came in baby steps —a feast in Texas; a visit to my mom in Virginia, They all came back, the freedom, the excitement and the fresh air.
The first real test of my travel courage came nine months after my stroke when I joined my husband in visiting China. After we had toured a temple, Jack wanted to ride down on a toboggan (平底雪橇).Before the stroke it would have seemed like fun for me. But now I stepped back. I feared. My mind screamed warnings of a fall or a crash. Then gathering confidence from nowhere,I lowered myself and took the flying toboggan ride, which marked my adventure travel's coming back. Since then, I’ve dared to take challenges and have challenged many places.
But I watch my medicine like an eagle. I get my blood tested. I weigh the risks. Then, if I decide it’s okay, like that toboggan ride down the mountain, I just jump in, let go and enjoy the ride. I think I travel for hoping to broaden my world and keep me connected with friends and families. Most of all, saying "yes” to travel is related to my APS. If I let myself be afraid to travel, then my APS will win.

As you walk around the UK in March, you might notice that some people are wearing a daffodil (水仙花) on their coats. The British wear these yellow flowers to show they support one of this country’s best-known charities: Marie Curie.
Marie Curie tries to ensure everyone who has cancer is cared for in the best possible way. It also helps fun d research into possible cures. Founded in 1948, it has been continuing with its goal ever since.
The charity was named after Marie Curie, a famous scientist. She experimented with newly-discovered elements to create the theory of radioactivity (放射性). Unfortunately, over-exposure to the radioactive elements made her develop a disease and die in 1934. Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in two different fields. Because of her pioneering work, the charity decided on the name of Marie Curie.
The daffodil is one of the first plants to flower during spring in the UK, which marks the return of flowering plants to the ecosystem after winter. Because of this, the charity uses the daffodil as a symbol, hoping cancer patients could recover from sickness.
Everyone you see wearing a daffodil has contributed to the charity, but each daffodil is worth only what you want to pay for it. The charity does ask that you stick to a minimum amount of 1.
The charity encourages people to start wearing their daffodils at the start of March, when the “Great Daffodil Appeal” kicks off. But that doesn’t mean you can only wear them in March. People are sometimes seen walking around with daffodils on their clothes all year round.

Consider a person very important to you. He or she keeps on talking to the extent of boring you and makes you feel like escaping from that place. To prevent the annoyance or boredom showing in your face, you may use gestures, gazes and smiles to pretend that you are listening! We call them a non-verbal way of communication or the “body language”!
There are gestures, gazes and smiles to show how far we are interested in the conversation.
Gestures may be of different types. Notice a person playing a dice game. When there is a positive sign of victory on his side, he gets more excited and rubs his palms fast. Then he throws the dice. Similarly a sales person knows when his customer is responsive. Hand-to-cheek gesture or hand-to-chin gesture from the person shows his disinterest and the salesman realizes that the customer is not interested in his presentation. Slapping one’s own forehead indicates the person’s forgetfulness.
Gazes go a long way in communicating with each other. When a person’s gaze meets yours for more than two thirds of the time, it can mean one of two things: first, he or she finds you very interesting or appealing, in which case the gaze will be associated with dilated pupils (瞳孔); secondly, he or she is hostile (怀有敌意的) towards you and may be issuing a non-verbal challenge, in which case the pupils will become smaller.
Smile your way into someone’s heart. There are 50 or so different types of human smiles. By analyzing the movements of facial muscles involved in smiling, researchers can tell when a smile is true. Look for the crinkle in the skin at the middle, outside corner of the eyes and if it is not there, the smile is probably fake. Real smiles are smiles that change rapidly from a small facial movement to a broad open expression.
Learn the body language and succeed in winning over others!
32. What kind of body language shows the customer is not enthusiastic about the salesman’s presentation
A. Slapping his/her own forehead. B. Putting a hand to his/her chin.
C. Rubbing his/her palms. D. Rolling his/her eyes.
33. What does the underlined word “dilated” in the fourth paragraph probably mean
A. Thinner. B. Calmer. C. Wider. D. Smaller.
34. What’s the author’s attitude towards the learning of body language
A. Positive. B. Critical. C. Ambiguous. D. Cautious.
35. Which of the following could be the best title for the text
A. How to Communicate with Others B. Communicating Through Body Language
C. How to Succeed in Winning over Others D. Different Ways of Communication

During the summer before Patty entered fifth grade, she decided to try a new sport. Swim training was nearly over and Patty was the fastest swimmer in her age group. She had always been the best. The neighborhood was offering a one-week tennis training course. Patty and her friend Darla got permission from their parents to join.
On Saturday morning, Darla’s mom took the girls to a store and bought them each a good, used tennis racket. “If you girls stick to tennis, then we’ll talk about a new racket. These will do for now.” The girls were excited about their new purchases. On Monday morning, at 7:00 a.m., Patty’s mom woke her up. “It’s time for tennis!” Patty covered her face. “Mom, it’s too early!” She made great effort to get out of bed and down to the breakfast table. Patty finished breakfast and ran to Darla’s house, then they walked to the court.
Mrs. Cane, the tennis coach, lined everyone up and started with the basics. After that, Mrs. Cane tirelessly taught them to practice their forehand and backhand. By the end of the week, Patty had made impressive progress. Mrs. Cane commented that Patty had lots of potential. Darla, on the other hand, was struggling. The other teenagers were having a tough time of it, too. Patty was the only one who seemed to get somewhere.
Since then, Darla had always been out in the August heat, practicing her serves or hitting the ball. Patty wasn’t really interested. She felt she was such a “natural” for tennis that she really didn’t need to practice. By the end of the summer, Darla began to get the hang of it. She joined a neighborhood junior tennis team. There would be matches every Thursday. Patty wanted to join as well, but she didn’t want to miss her favorite TV show. She told herself that she would join it when she got some free time. If Darla had fun, she would join the team in the spring.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

B 33. C 34. A 35. B
根据第三段中“Hand-to-cheek gesture or hand-to-chin gesture from the person shows his disinterest and the salesman realizes that the customer is not interested in his presentation.”(推销员发现顾客对他的陈述不感兴趣,就会做出面对面的手势或者手对下巴的手势。)
根据画线词后一句“secondly, he or she is hostile (怀有敌意的) towards you and may be issuing a non-verbal challenge, in which case the pupils will become smaller.”(其次,他或她对你怀有敌意,可能会发出非语言的挑战,在这种情况下,瞳孔会变得更小。)
根据最后一段“Learn the body language and succeed in winning over others!”(学习肢体语言,赢得别人的心!) 故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“To prevent the annoyance or boredom showing in your face, you may use gestures, gazes and smiles to pretend that you are listening! We call them a non-verbal way of communication or the “body language”!”(为了防止烦恼或无聊表现在你的脸上,你可以使用手势,凝视和微笑,假装你正在听!

When thinking about what you can do to help the planet, do you support regenerative (再生) agriculture Do you even know what it means While it sounds like something that is up to farmers, there are ways that the rest of us can support it; one way is to practice soil-friendly eating. ___36___.
Eat a variety of foods
A group of different foods can be good for getting a variety of nutrients, and by eating different types of foods, you’ll help create demand for a wide variety of agricultural products, which is better for soil. ___37___.
Embrace the pulses (豆类)
The pulses are cheap and great alternative to meat. ___38___. Pulse crops are able to pull nitrogen from the atmosphere into the soil. This process is called nitrogen fixation and provides a natural fertilizer, which is available for subsequent crops.
Make sure meat is sustainably produced
___39___. However, if you do shop for meat, look for the meat which has been produced sustainably. For example, animals feeding on pasture (牧草) rather than grain are better because grain requires a lot of land, water and agrichemicals. Animals take a lot from the soil, so it’s important to support owners of pasture who work to keep their soil healthy.
Reduce food waste
Reducing food waste has been getting much attention recently. By some accounts it is one of the most important things we can do to fight the climate. ___40___.
A. We generally recommend eating less meat or none at all

第一段“When thinking about what you can do to help the planet, do you support regenerative (再生) agriculture Do you even know what it means While it sounds like something that is up to farmers, there are ways that the rest of us can support it; one way is to practice soil-friendly eating.(在考虑如何帮助地球时,你是否支持再生农业?你知道那是什么意思吗?虽然这听起来像是由农民决定的事情,但是我们其他人可以通过一些方法来支持它:一种方法是实行土壤友好型饮食)”讲我们有许多方法来支持再生农业,一种方法就是实行土壤友好型的饮食,而下文每段标题分别是一种饮食方法。由此可知,空处应指出有些方法可以保护土壤,E项“以下是关于怎么吃有利于保护土壤的一些方法”承上启下,符合语境。故选E。
2. 上文“A group of different foods can be good for getting a variety of nutrients, and by eating different types of foods, you’ll help create demand for a wide variety of agricultural products, which is better for soil. (一组不同的食物有助于获得多种营养物质,通过食用不同类型的食物,你将有助于创造对多种农产品的需求,这些农产品对土壤更有益)”讲通过吃不同的食物,你会帮助创造对各种各样农产品的需求,这样对土壤有好处。由此可知,G项“当土地种植多种庄稼时,食物多样性有助于提升土壤肥力”承接上文,解释了食物多样性对土地的具体好处。故选G。
3. 上文“The pulses are cheap and great alternative to meat.
4. 下文“However, if you do shop for meat, look for the meat which has been produced sustainably.(然而,如果你购买肉类,寻找可持续生产的肉类)”讲然而如果你真要去买肉,那就买一些可持续生产的肉吧,However说明前后是转折关系。 故选A。
5. 上文“Reducing food waste has been getting much attention recently. By some accounts, it is one of the most important things we can do to fight the climate.(近年来,减少食物浪费受到了广泛的关注。根据一些说法,这是我们能做的抗击气候变化的最重要的事情之一)”讲减少食物浪费是我们应对气候变化危机所能做的最重要的事情之一。由此可知,B项“它还有助于减轻土壤的压力,因为它减少了其工作量”承接上文,联系紧密,说出了减少食物浪费的第二个好处。故选B。

The week before school started, Mrs. Cane held another training course. Darla and Patty signed up immediately. In a class, Mrs. Cane asked the teenagers to play in turn. Darla came first, impressing others with her excellent performance. Mrs. Cane was pleased with Darla’s progress. “Well, I can tell who’s been practicing!” she smiled. Soon it was Patty’s turn. Everyone looked at the “talent” expectantly. Yet, Patty had not practiced and was far behind the rest, which was a shock for all. Patty was upset and absent until the class was over.
Patty couldn’t stop thinking of her poor performance on the way home. She realized she needed change if she still wanted to continue with tennis. The next day, Patty came to Darla’s team when they practiced to ask whether she could join. Warmly welcomed, she became a member of the team that day. Weak though she was, Patty enjoyed herself and worked hard at practice. She finally found that “natural talent” got her nowhere without diligence and she was able to join in the fun. That was one of the best lessons of her life.
