Years ago,I could not stick to exercising until I bought a CD called I Enjoy Exercise.I listened to it every day.I bought the CD because I wanted to run in a race and hopefully win!
I had promised my 10-year-old son Todd that I would run in a race with him.Unfortunately, however, when that race came about, his left leg was hurt in a car accident.Without him running with me,although I took part in that race, yet I didn’t do quite well in it.
While Todd couldn’t run together with me because of his injury(受伤),he never forgot the promise I made for him.He was always asking me whether I would keep my promise when he recovered in the future. So I decided I was going to train and go all out to win the next race. What I needed was motivation(动力).It happened that one of my friends mentioned the CD which he liked very much, saying that he got a lot from the music in it when feeling down.So I bought it and listened to it while exercising every day.
It was amazing what happened to my thinking as I listened to it daily.I started to think about the repeated words on the CD—“I enjoy exercise”.Instead of dreading exercise,I was thinking,“I enjoy exercise.”
I found out how important words are that we play in our minds every day.I went from a person who seldom exercised to someone who started to exercise daily.Just think how our lives will improve if we reflect on the uplifting and motivating words of the famous works.I have found the positive messages have greatly improved my thinking and then changed my life.
How did I do in that race, you might be thinking I actually won the gold medal in my age group.

B.The motivating words make a difference to us.

Many of us know about Russia’s Lake Baikal from our textbooks,or by listening to Chinese singer Li Jian’s hit song,“Lakeside of Baikal”.But over the years, the world’s deepest freshwater lake has been a focus for an extreme sport.
Each March, about 150 people from around the world sign up for the Baikal Ice Marathon. The 26-mile journey starts on the lake’s eastern shore. In March, the ice is a metre thick and iron-hard.Runners cross this frozen surface, finishing on the western side of the lake.
It’s believed that Lake Baikal’s beauty is incomparable.Particularly known as “the Blue Eye of Siberia”,Lake Baikal has extremely clear waters. This means that its ice is almost perfectly transparent(透明的).Seen from above,a runner on the ice looks as if he or she were jogging through space.
The scenery might be beautiful, but strong winds blow across the lake and frostbite(冻伤) can happen within half an hour.Runners say the cold climate is what attracts them and that running in such condition is a test of their limits.
“When you are in such an environment, you don’t have cars around you,and you don’t have the noise around.I think these extreme races push you to be alone,” Alicja Barahona,a 64-year-old runner from the US said.
The place offers some strange and unique features for this marathon.Tourists crowding the ice are mostly addicted to taking pictures and just ignore the runners.
For runners, without people watching and cheering for them, the race becomes more challenging and lonely. They must fight with themselves.“You are alone on Baikal. It is your race. You are alone with yourself. All you need to do is defeat yourself,” Veronique Messina,a French runner, told The Telegraph.

B.They like the competition with others.
C.They intend to draw much attention.
D.They prefer to get close to nature.

A.To prove the power of the runners for the Baikal Ice Marathon.

Some educators told us that more years of school could help students get higher scores on intelligence tests. That was a finding of a study of teenage males in some countries. Now,another research shows that physical activity may help students do better in their classes.
The research comes as educators in some countries are reducing time for activities like physical education. They are using the time instead for academic(学术的) subjects like math and reading. The studies appeared between 2008 and 2014.They included more than 55,000 children, aged 6 to 18.
Amika Singh said,“According to the results of our study,we can conclude that being physically active is beneficial for academic performance. There are, first, physiological explanations, like more blood flow, and so more oxygen to the brain.Being physically active means there are more hormones(荷尔蒙) produced like endorphins(内啡肽).And endorphins make your stress level lower and your mood improved, which means you also perform better.”
Also, students taking part in organized sports learn rules and how to follow them. This could improve their classroom behavior and help them keep their mind on their work.
The study leaves some questions unanswered, however.Ms Stash says it is not possible to say whether the amount or kind of activity affected the level of academic improvement. This is because of differences among the studies.
The researchers said they found only two high-quality studies. They needed more high-quality studies to confirm(证实) their findings. They also pointed out that “results for other parts of the world may be quite different”.
Still, the general finding was that physically active kids are more likely to do better in school.Ms Singh says schools should consider that finding before they cut physical education programs. Her paper on “Physical Activity and Performance at School” is published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
32.What does the passage mainly tells us
A.A research on physical education has been done by the researchers.
B.There is a possibility that physical activity leads to higher grades.
C.The amount or kind of activity directly affects academic level.
D.The research shows that the children aged 6 to 18 don’t do sports.
33.Which of the following is TRUE
A.Being mentally active is good for academic subjects.
B.The more hormones you have, the more stressed you will get.
C.The researchers have found many high-quality studies to prove the research.
D.The educators in some countries think studies, not exercise, mean much to students.
34.What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 6 probably mean
A.Good marks result from high-quality study.
B.Findings are probably different in different areas.
C.Physical activity will spread all over the world.
D.Academic performance depends on the surroundings.
35.What’s the purpose of writing the passage
A.To call our attention to the sports at school.
B.To introduce all types of physical activities.
C.To represent the academic performance.
D.To improve students’ health.

It enhances your mental health.
Doing something active releases “happy” brain chemicals, such as endorphins and serotonin(血清素),which make you more positive. The more you do it,the better you’ll feel. But you do need to work up a bit of a sweat. If you’ve had a bad day,a quick power walk is a brilliant stress reliever. 40
A.It keeps you young.
B.It helps you be energetic.
C.Here are some benefits of exercise.
D.You can surely brighten your day after it.
E.Your stomach feels more comfortable after exercise.

(Text 10)
Let’s first talk about the importance of exercise. Many people today live a “modern” life. You may,for instance, drive to work, sit in an office all day, then drive home and spend the evening watching TV.That kind of lifestyle is not very healthy. In fact,it can lead to all kinds of health problems. One of the most common problems is heart disease, but other common results are being overweight and having high blood pressure.
Let me suggest some ways to exercise. In the first place, you should start exercising slowly,15 to 20 minutes each day,and slowly increase your amount of exercise. In this way you can avoid injury.Another thing is to choose an activity you enjoy, and one you’ll stick to.In general, exercising is much more fun if you do it with other people.

【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了迄今为止世界上最年轻的四位奥运冠军。

26.A 词义猜测题。根据文章第四段中的“Instead of dreading exercise,I was thinking,‘I enjoy exercise.’”可知,该句中有表示替代关系的介词短语instead of,该短语表示“dreading exercise”和后面的“I was thinking,‘I enjoy exercise.’”之间有替代关系,也就是和enjoy(享受)表达相反的意思。所以此处dread理解成“害怕”最合适。
