Kim Jae-geun, a softly-spoken 59-year-old man in South Korea, had spent many years in advertising before he no longer had the strength for it. So during the past seven years, instead of spending his days writing copy, Mr. Kimhas spent his evenings behind the counter of his bar, Seochon Blues, near Seoul’s government district. The place is also home to thousands of vinyl records (黑胶唱片) that he began collecting as a teenager. Customers can request their favourite songs there. The bar is often full of tired office workers, and 20-something people and local artists at weekends. “There’s a special wave,” Mr. Kim observed. “All the young people ask for very old songs.” he said.
Mr. Kim’s Seochon Blues is one of the dozens of “LP bars” in South Korea’s capital, many of which are run by men with similar stories. South Korean companies offer few opportunities to middle-aged workers who haven’t climbed through the ranks. Leaving their jobs in their fifties, with music collections becoming too large for their living rooms, a few who haven’t taken up work as taxi drivers or security guards began to make a living by opening such bars.
The first LP bars opened in the 1990s, possibly inspired by the “listening bars” that originated in mid-20th century Japan. Music enthusiasts would come to these bars to listen to imported records that were otherwise hard to come by. The LP bars have proliferated in recent years with more and more people loving going there, thus greatly benefiting the middle-aged owners.
All LP bars encourage nostalgia (怀旧). “I don’t like digitization or the isolated way people have now” said Lee Jae-jun, who left his job and also opened such a bar. He likes recalling the eighties and nineties and playing songs from people’s youth. “On the best days, regulars arrive for just one drink, and then I play old songs they like. And before you know it, it’s midnight and everyone goes home, drunk and happy,” said Lee Jae-jun.
56 What appears unusual for Mr. Kim in Seochon Blues
A. Teenagers collect different types of vinyl records.
B. The youth enjoy listening to old songs.
C. Artists try to get inspiration for writing songs.
D. People show off their success in advertisements.
57. What can be learned from Paragraph 2
A. Middle-aged workers are welcomed by small companies.
B. South Koreans prefer to live a quite relaxed life.
C. South Koreans tend to change their jobs constantly.
D. LP bars offer career opportunities to middle-aged workers.
58. What does the underlined word “proliferated” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Sprung up B. Survived. C. Died down. D. Returned.
59. Which of the following words can best describe the atmosphere of LP bars
A. Amazing and professional. B. Romantic and enjoyable.
C. Nostalgic and relaxed. D. Mysterious and encouraging.
60. What can be the best title for the text
A. The stories behind Kim Jae-geun B. The rise of LP bars in South Korea
C. The popularity of music bands D. The influence of old records

Music enthusiasts would come to these bars to listen to imported records that were otherwise hard to come by. The LP bars have proliferated in recent years with more and more people loving going there, thus greatly benefiting the middle-aged owners.(第一家LP酒吧在20世纪90年代开业,可能是受到了起源于20世纪中期日本的“聆听酒吧”的启发。
C
Many people love the Halloween season, particularly young ones. It’s not hard to understand. The Halloween season is a time for fun-sized candy, giving rocks to trick or treaters, apple cider donuts, and frights. The very last-frights, are generally all in good fun. But can they be dangerous Can someone be scared to death
The key factor in an imagined scare-caused death is a little chemical that anyone who’s played a particularly intense game of hide-and-seek is very familiar with: adrenaline Fear puts the body in a state of severe emotional anxiety, which in turn causes the autonomic fight-or-flight response.
The fight-or-flight response is an evolutionary defence mechanism (机制) which acts in your best interest when there is a noticed threat. You sweat a lot, your anxiety is exacerbated, your blood glucose (葡萄糖) levels are increased, and your heart rate is higher. Like a cornered animal, you’re a bit less reasonable, a bit stranger, but a bit more ready to survive.
Now, back to the adrenaline. Adrenaline causes all of these processes, but there’s just one organ, which, if overloaded, can lead to sudden death. The human body doesn’t immediately come to an end as soon as a kidney (肾) fails, but when a heart stops working, the whole business fails. This is what happens to your body during an adrenaline rush.
Adrenaline causes calcium (钙) to enter the heart at a higher rate, and when there’s more calcium rushing through the heart, it has harder time resetting to its normal resting rate. This can cause a dangerous condition, which prevents blood from pumping to the rest of the body. Without immediate treatment, this can lead to sudden death.
Of course, such cause of death isn’t unique to being scared. Any event that increases one’s adrenal level could lead to this dangerous condition. So if you are planning on scaring others the next Halloween season, be sure to do it in a controlled setting, especially if you have a history of heart problems.
61. What do we learn about the fight-or-flight response mentioned in Paragraph 2
A. It makes us think in a better way.
B. It prevents adrenaline from rising.
C. It has nothing to do with little kids.
D. It is meant to help us survive better.
62. The underlined word “exacerbated” in Paragraph 3 means “________”.
A. acquired B. relieved C. worsened D. addressed
63. What will probably happen during the dangerous condition according to Paragraph 5
A. Having a failed kidney.
B. Having faster blood circulation.
C. Having too much calcium in our blood.
D. Having irregular heartbeats.
64. We can learn from the passage that we should ________.
A. enjoy Halloween in a controlled way
B. avoid low blood glucose levels
C. exercise to protect ourselves from heart disease
D. avoid scaring others during the Halloween screen
65. What would be the best title for the passage
A. Is it enjoyable to frighten others
B. Is it possible to be scared to death
C. Why is too much adrenaline dangerous
D. What to watch out for during the Halloween season
D 62. C 63. D 64. A 65. B

根据第二段中“The key factor in an imagined scare-caused death is a little chemical that anyone who’s played a particularly intense game of hide-and-seek is very familiar with: adrenaline (肾上腺素). Fear puts the body in a state of severe emotional anxiety, which in turn causes the autonomic fight-or-flight response.(想象中的恐惧导致死亡的关键因素是一种小化学物质,任何玩过特别激烈的捉迷藏游戏的人都非常熟悉:肾上腺素。恐惧使身体处于一种严重的情绪焦虑状态,进而引起自主神经系统的应战或逃跑反应)”可推知,战逃反应是有助于我们更好地生存。故选D。
【62题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词前面的内容“You sweat a lot(你出汗很多)”以及划线词后文的“your blood glucose (葡萄糖) levels are increased, and your heart rate is higher.(你的血糖水平升高,心率加快)”可知,出汗很多,血糖上升,心率加快,此时焦虑程度更加严重。由此可知,划线词与C选项“worsened(加重,更糟糕)”为同义词。
根据第五段中“Adrenaline causes calcium (钙) to enter the heart at a higher rate, and when there’s more calcium rushing through the heart, it has harder time resetting to its normal resting rate. (肾上腺素导致钙以更高的速率进入心脏,当有更多的钙通过心脏时,它很难恢复到正常的静息速率)”可知,在危险情况下,心跳是不规律的。故选D。
【64题详解】

No business would welcome being compared to gambling. Yet that is what is happening to makers of video games. For years parents have complained that their children are “addicted” to their video games and smartphones. Today, however, even more doctors are using the term. On January 1 this year, “gaming disorder” — in which games are played uncontrollably, despite causing harm — gained recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Are games really addictive Psychologists have different opinions. Those who don’t think so say that this is just another moral panic. Similar warnings have been given about television, rock’n’roll, jazz, comic books, novels and even crossword puzzles, but it turns out that they are not as harmful as expected.
However, supporters argue that game developers have the motivation and the means to design their products to make them extremely attractive. For one thing, the business- model has changed: In the old days, games were bought once and for all. But these days, games are free and money is earned from purchases of in-game goods, which ties playtime directly to revenue (收益). For another, game-makers combine psychological theory and data, which helps them maximize the playtime. Smartphones and modern video game machines use their permanent Internet connections to send gameplay data back to developers. In this way products are constantly adjusted to encourage players’ spending. The biggest spenders are known as “whales”, a term that originated in casinos (赌场).
The gaming industry should realize that, in the real world, it has a problem, and that problem is growing. Now that gaming addiction comes with an official WHO recognition, diagnoses will become more common. Anyway, being put together with gambling in the public mind, fairly or not, will not do the industry any good.
66. What do we know from Paragraph 1
A. It is not suitable to compare video games to gambling.
B. Parents complain about their children’s addiction to gambling.
C. Gaming addiction was officially recognized as a disease.
D. More doctors are against the use of the term “addicted”.
67. What does the underlined words “moral panic” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Unexpected addiction caused by science and technology.
B. Wrong judgment on how harmful something is.
C. Trouble caused by someone’s immoral behavior.
D. An astonishing claim of the unexpected panic.
68. What do games developers do to make games attractive
A. They don’t charge players for in-game goods.
B. They keep players’ video game machines updated.
C. They reward big spenders with a unique title.
D. They adjust products based on received data.
69. In the last paragraph, the author aims to _______.
A. offer a suggestion
B. make a prediction
C. give a warning
D. put forward a solution
70. What is the best title for the text
A. Addiction: A Warning to the Gaming Industry
B. Addiction: Not a Blame on Games
C. Games: A New Kind of Gambling
D. Games: The Cause of Mental Disorder
C 67. B 68. D 69. C 70. A

根据第一段最后一句“On January 1 this year, ‘gaming disorder’ — in which games are played uncontrollably, despite causing harm — gained recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO). (今年1月1日,‘游戏障碍’(这病)得到了世界卫生组织的认可,‘游戏障碍’指的是尽管会造成伤害,但仍无法控制地玩游戏)”可知,游戏上瘾被权威机构WHO认定为疾病。故选C项。
【67题详解】
词句猜测题。根据前一句“Are games really addictive Psychologists have different opinions. (游戏真的会让人上瘾吗?)”,划线词所在句“Those who don’t think so say that this is just another moral panic. (那些不这么认为的人说,这只是又一次moral panic。)”,其中another指代众多类似当中的另外一个,根据下一句“Similar warnings have been given about television, rock’n’roll, jazz, comic books, novels and even crossword puzzles, but it turns out that they are not as harmful as expected.
根据第三段中“However, supporters argue that games developers have the motivation and the means to design their products to make them extremely attractive. In this way products are constantly adjusted to encourage players’ spending.
根据最后一段的第一句“The gaming industry should realize that, in the real world, it has a problem, and that problem is growing. (游戏行业应该意识到,在现实世界中,它存在一个问题,而且这个问题正在加剧。)”,以及最后一句“Anyway, being put together with gambling in the public mind, whether it is fairly or not, will not do the industry any good. (无论如何,在公众的心目中与赌博放在一起,无论公平与否,都不会给这个行业带来任何好处。)”可推知,作者在最后一段中向游戏业发出了警示:在现实世界中,游戏行业有着持续的问题,且人们将它与赌博业相提并论,这对这个行业发展无益。故选C项。
【70题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Today, however, even more doctors are using the term. On January 1 this year, “gaming disorder” — in which games are played uncontrollably, despite causing harm — gained recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO).(然而今天,更多的医生在使用这个术语。今年1月1日,‘游戏障碍’(这病)得到了世界卫生组织的认可,‘游戏障碍’指的是尽管会造成伤害,但仍无法控制地玩游戏。)”和文章最后一段“The gaming industry should realize that, in the real world, it has a problem, and that problem is growing. Anyway, being put together with gambling in the public mind, fairly or not, will not do the industry any good.(游戏行业应该意识到,在现实世界中,它存在一个问题,而且这个问题正在加剧。既然游戏成瘾得到了世界卫生组织的正式承认,诊断将变得更加普遍。无论如何,在公众心目中,将赌博与公平与否放在一起,对这个行业都没有任何好处。)”可知,文章主要讲述了世卫组织把游戏成瘾列为一种疾病,就“游戏真的会让人上瘾吗”这个问题,介绍了心理学家们给出的不同的观点,作者也对此发表了忠告。由此可知,A项:Addiction: A Warning to the Gaming Industry(上瘾:对游戏产业的警告)为合适的标题。故选A。
When I was eight or nine years old, I wrote my first poem. My mother read the little poem and began to cry. “Buddy, you didn’t really write this beautiful, beautiful poem!”
Shyly, proud-bursting, I stammered that I had. She poured out her praise. Why, this poem was nothing short of genius! I glowed.
I spent the best part of that afternoon preparing for the arrival of my father. But he did not return until an hour late for dinner. “Ben, a beautiful thing has happened,” my mother began. “Buddy has written his first poem! And it’s beautiful, absolutely amazing.”
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to decide that for myself,” Father said.
That poem was only ten lines. But it seemed to take hours. I could hear my father breathing. “I think it’s lousy,” my father said.
“Ben, these are the first lines of poetry he’s ever written,” my mother was saying. “He needs encouragement.”
They quarreled over it. I couldn’t stand it another second. I ran from the dinning room bawling.
Up in my room I threw myself on the bed and sobbed.
A few years later I took a second look at that first poem; it was a pretty lousy poem. But it wasn’t until years later that the true meaning of that painful “first poem” experience dawned on me. As I became a professional writer, it became clearer and clearer to me how fortunate I had been. I had a mother who said, “Buddy, did you really write this I think it’s wonderful!” and a father who shook his head no and drove me to tears with “I think it’s lousy.” A writer — in fact every one of us in life — needs that loving-mother force from which all creation flows; and yet alone it is incomplete, even misleading, finally destructive, without the father force to caution, “Watch. Listen. Review. Improve.”

根据第一段中的“My mother read the little poem and began to cry. ‘Buddy, you didn’t really write this beautiful, beautiful poem!’(母亲读了这首小诗,哭了起来。“伙计,你不会真的写了这首非常非常漂亮的诗吧!”)”可知,母亲表扬作者的诗歌写的很好,第二段中的“Shyly, proud-bursting, I stammered that I had. She poured out her praise.( 我羞涩地,骄傲地,结结巴巴地说是我。她倾吐她的赞美之词。)”可知,作者听到母亲对诗歌的赞美之词感到非常的高兴,由此可推断,划线句子的意思是对作者诗歌的赞美。故答案为This poem was well-done./This poem was the same work of genius./This poem was almost wonderful/excellent.。
根据第五段中的“That poem was only ten lines. But it seemed to take hours. I could hear my father breathing. ‘I think it’s lousy,’ my father said.( 那首诗只有十行。但这似乎要花好几个小时。我能听到父亲的呼吸声。“我觉得很糟糕,”父亲说。)”可知,父亲对作者写的诗歌并不满意,结合第三段中的“‘Ben, a beautiful thing has happened,’ my mother began. ‘Buddy has written his first poem! And it’s beautiful, absolutely amazing.’(“本,一件美好的事情发生了,”我妈妈开始说。“巴迪写了他的第一首诗!它很美,绝对令人惊叹。”)”可知,母亲认为作者写的是个很精彩,由此可以推断,父母两人吵架是因为他们的观点不一致。故答案是Because they had different attitude towards the poem./Because they had different opinions about the poem.。
根据最后一段中的“A few years later I took a second look at that first poem; it was a pretty lousy poem.(几年后,我重新审视了那首诗;这是一首非常糟糕的诗。)” It was lousy./ It was very bad. /It was a pretty lousy poem.。
根据最后一段中的“A writer — in fact every one of us in life — needs that loving-mother force from which all creation flows; and yet alone it is incomplete, even misleading, finally destructive, without the father force to caution, “Watch. Listen. Review. Improve.”(一个作家——实际上是生活中的每一个人——都需要那种慈母般的力量,所有的创作都源自这种力量;然而,如果没有父亲的告诫,它是不完整的,甚至是误导的,最终是毁灭性的,“观察、倾听、审查、改善。”)”可知,作者认为生活中的每一个人只有一个爱自己的母亲是不完美的,还需要一个严厉的父亲才能让自己不断的进步,所以最后一段主要阐述的是人人都需要一位慈母和一位严父。故答案是Everyone needs a loving mother and a strict father.。
根据介绍的作者的写的第一首诗歌的经历以及最后一段中的“A writer—in fact every one of us in life—needs that loving-mother force from which all creation flows; and yet alone it is incomplete, even misleading, finally destructive, without the father force to caution, “Watch. Listen. Review. I need a mother who can encourage me and a father who can caution me. /I need parents who both love me. /I need parents who always encourage me.。

“I don’t like digitization or the isolated way people have now,” said Lee Jae-jun, who left his job and also opened such a bar. He likes recalling the eighties and nineties and playing songs from people’s youth. “On the best days, regulars arrive for just one drink, and then I play old songs they like. And before you know it, it’s midnight and everyone goes home, drunk and happy,” said Lee Jae-jun.
56. What appears unusual for Mr. Kim in Seochon Blues

D. It is meant to help us survive better.

When I was eight or nine years old, I wrote my first poem. My mother read the little poem and began to cry. “Buddy, you didn’t really write this beautiful, beautiful poem!”
Shyly proud-bursting, I stammered that I had.
Listen. Review. Improve.”
