Although heat wasn’t an issue at first, as it would become later, coming from New York to India would shock any foreign tourists. Quickly, however, I noticed how nice and helpful everyone was to us. The guest house we stayed in was full of people willing to help. The other two volunteers also helped to calm my nerves about being in India so far away from my home. After the first few days I was eager to get to Bal Ashram.
Upon getting to Bal Ashram, I was able to meet the boys, who called Bal Ashram their home. The center itself helps to rescue boys from child labor in various areas of India and give them a jumpstart into education for free where they will then return to their families and continue their education. They are taught that without education there can be no future. Through education, Bal Ashram also builds a sense of community which can be seen with everyone who works and is taught here. Teaching English here to the children gave me great pride in knowing that these children would be helped within their own experiences here at Bal Ashram and their future lives. Each child was always willing to learn more.
Boys there were always seen laughing. Afternoon sports and nightly social events, including dancing, were just one of the many highlights with me and the children. Even my inner life was enriched (充实), let alone theirs. Living in Bal Ashram also gave us a first hand view of village, life in India, as well as the culture and religion that surrounds this country.
My time spent at Bal Ashram was one I will never forget. Through the simplicity and life of the people and the children who are full of innocence (天真) and joy, I have taken with me so much more than when I arrived.
39. Why did the author come to India

B. To learn about the life in Indian villages.
C. To work as a volunteer English teacher.
D. To rescue Indian boys from hard labor.

A. The unfair treatment by other volunteers.
B. The hot weather.
C. The communication problems.
D. The culture and religion differences
41. The activities at Bal Ashram aim to .
A. encourage boys to get close to strangers
B. develop the boys’ interest in studying
C. offer those boys a family atmosphere
D. enrich the inner life of those boys
C
In US emergency rooms (ER), the average wait time to see a doctor is more than two hours. There are more patients in need than there are doctors, nurses and other staff to help them. Many parents have suffered through hours in the ER with a sick, upset child, only to get sent home because their case is not considered urgent. What if there was another choice—like a house call from an intelligent machine
Now a new study shows that AI systems can assess (评估) a child’s medical chart and come up with a diagnosis (诊断), a determination of what is wrong with that patient.
The study took place at Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center in southern China. First, a team of doctors reviewed 6, 183 medical charts. They summarized the information in these charts into a list of keywords linked to disease-related symptoms or signs, such as “fever”. Researchers then taught these keywords to the AI system. Once trained, the system scanned children’s charts for the key terms, checking if they were present or not in order to come to a conclusion. Finally, it offered diagnoses based on the charts, narrowing down from among 55 illness categories.
Dongxiao Zhu, an assistant professor of computer science at Wayne State University who did not take part in the study, however, sees this as “augmented intelligence (增强智能)” rather than “artificial intelligence”, because the system handled only 55 illness pare that to thousands of possibilities in the real world. The machine cannot yet get into the more complex aspects of a medical decision.
Zhu is also concerned about the amount of human work that went into the study—namely, the time and energy spent by human doctors. They spent hours grading the machine’s assessments and comparing them to their own. It’s no wonder that the process took four years. Considering that, it may be a while before you can skip the ER and see a robot-doctor instead.
42. What can we infer from Paragraph 1
A. Patients pay too much for the ER.
B. American doctors aren’t responsible.
C. Children are treated urgently in the ER.
D. The emergency rooms are crowded with patients.
43. What does the author mainly intend to show in the text
A. AI systems still have a long way to go.
B. AI systems diagnose disease like doctors.
C. AI systems will take over from doctors someday.
D. AI systems get into complex medical decisions.
44. How does AI system determine a patient’s disease
A. By examining a patient first.
B. By reviewing many medical charts.
C. By scanning keywords about a disease.
D. By observing disease-related symptoms.
45. What does Zhu think of AI doctors
A. They need to be improved a lot.
B. They will replace real doctors soon.
C. They are suitable for complex disease.
D. They help doctors make a quick analysis.

I was still a fresh graduate from high school; I got a chance to work. During my first day of work, I came early. I was the first one to arrive in the office. Perhaps it was due to excitement, I had performed well in my given tasks. Everything went smoothly in my work. The passion when I started was still the same passion I am feeling until now. Furthermore, I didn’t forget to do well in my studies. In fact, I still managed to review my notes, to become active in classes and to score high in tests.
I had learned new things as I started working there. Dealing and interacting with people were some of the remarkable learning I had. Moreover, it was also very fulfilling when I had helped my parents diminish their finances in my own ways.
It is not that easy to study while working. There are truly pressures in between them. Sometimes, deadlines of the school project and errands(差事) from the boss go together. Sometimes, there are misunderstandings between colleagues. There are just some sacrifices and challenges of becoming a working student.
Yet, it is my will and I am very happy with it because I am learning and growing. They say, “You can’t serve two masters at a time. ” It is possible, but it is a challenge. I know that I can balance studies and work. Moreover, I know that I can still keep my relationships with my family, friends and loved ones.

D. To rescue Indian boys from hard labor.

Now, a new study shows that AI systems can assess (评估) a child’s medical chart and come up with a diagnosis (诊断), a determination of what is wrong with that patient.
D By observing disease-related symptoms.
45. What does Zhu think of AI doctors
A. They need to be improved a lot.
B. They will replace real doctors soon.
C. They are suitable for complex disease.
D. They help doctors make a quick analysis.
【答案】42. D 43. B 44. C 45. A

【45题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“however, sees this as “augmented intelligence (增强智能)” rather than “artificial intelligence”, because the system handled only 55 illness pare that to thousands of possibilities in the real world. (然而,他认为这是“增强智能”,而不是“人工智能”,因为该系统只处理55种疾病类别。将其与现实世界中成千上万的可能性进行比较。)”以及最后一段“It’s no wonder that the process took four years. Considering that, it may be a while before you can skip the ER and see a robot-doctor instead. (难怪这个过程花了四年时间。考虑到这一点,你可能需要一段时间才能跳过急诊室去看机器人医生。)”可推知,朱教授认为这台机器还不能处理更复杂的医疗决策以及评估时间过长,所以他们需要改进很多。故选A项。
