The spread of Western eating habits around the world is bad for human health and the environment. These findings come from a new report in the journal Nature.
David Tillman, a professor of ecology at the University of Minnesota, America, examined information from 100 countries to identify what people ate and how diet affected health. He noted a movement beginning in the 1960s.He found that as nations industrialized(工业化), population increased and earnings rose, more people began to adopt what has been called the Western diet.
The Western diet is high in sugar, fat, oil and meat.By eating these foods, people began to get fatter and sicker.David Tillman says overweight people are at greater risk for non-infectious diseases like diabetes(糖尿病)and heart disease.
Unfortunately when people become industrialized, if they adopt this Western diet, they are going to have these health problems, especially in developing countries in Asia.China is an example where the number of diabetes cases has been jumping from less than one percent to 10 percent of the population as they began to industrialize over a 20-year period. And that is happening all across the world, in Mexico, in Nigeria and so on.
And, a diet bad for human beings, is also bad for the environment. As the world's population grows, more forests and tropical(热带的)areas will become farmland for crops or grasslands for cattle. We are likely to have more greenhouse gas in the future from agriculture than that coming out of all forms of transportation right now.
Mr.Tillman calls the link between diet, the environment and human health, "a dilemma"-- a problem offering a difficult choice. He says one possible solution is leaving the Western diet behind.
56.According to the passage, more greenhouse gas might be given off in the future from .
A.transportation B.developing countries
C.agriculture D.developed countries
57.David Tillman believes that .
A.traditional diets are more balanced than the Western diet
B.the Western diet is the only choice as the nation industrializes

58.We can infer from the passage that _______.
A.Nigeria has the largest number of diabetes cases
B.industrialization contributes to the spread of the Western diet
C.the examined information comes from developing countries
D.overweight people are at higher risk of infectious diseases
59.The main purpose of the passage is to _ .
A.call on us to protect the environment
B.advise us to have a balanced diet
C.remind us of the importance of health
D.warn us of the danger of the Western diet

It is 7 am and the alarm is going off. You know you have to be out of bed to catch the bus. But the urge to bury yourself in the bed is ever so strong. Sounds familiar? Why is it that teens find it difficult to get themselves out of bed in time every morning or stay sharp and focused during the first couple of hours of school?
During adolescence, the body goes through many changes and this includes a shift in sleep patterns. Researchers from MIT have been tracking the body’s need for sleep in teenagers. They found that though adolescents need as much as 9.5 hours of sleep a day, they get to bed later and later with each passing year. In fact, the sleep cycle shifts later by as much as 12 to 18 minutes each year between the ages of 10 and 20! So by the time a 10-year-old who sleeps at 8 pm grows to be 17 or 18, their body naturally wants to stay up till 10:30 or 11 pm.
According to researchers, this is because of a hormone called melatonin(褪黑激素)that is secreted(分泌)by the pineal gland - a tiny structure deep inside the brain. Melatonin regulates the body’s natural day-night rhythms. It causes a person to become sleepy by lowering their body’s core temperature. In teens, melatonin is secreted much later in the evening and continues to increase throughout the night. This makes it difficult for teens to fall asleep earlier as they did in their younger years. Likewise, the effect of melatonin continues until much later in the morning, making it hard for them to wake up early.
A study found that at least one in four teens is tired and falls asleep in school at least once a week. During sleep, important body functions and brain activities happen. So how can teenagers get their sleep enough? The American Association of Pediatrics(AAP)recommends that middle and high schools should start later - not before 8:30 am. This should give teens some more time to sleep at night.
60. From paragraph 2, we can learn that if you sleep late, the next day you should ________.
A. stay sharp B. skip breakfast C. get up late D. stay up late
61. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The students want to stay up. B. The shifts of sleeping cycle.
C. The pineal gland secrets melatonin. D. The adolescents sleep late.
62. The teens go to sleep later than before because ________.
A. melatonin is secreted much later B. melatonin regulates the sleep time
C. they sleep a lot in the daytime D. they need to finish their homework
63. According to AAP’s recommendation, middle and high schools should _________.
A. let teens sleep in the day B. let the students be active
C. delay the start time D. start later at 8:00 am

In a class this past December, after I wrote some directions on the board for students about their final examination, one young woman quickly took a picture of the board using her smart phone. When I looked in her direction, she apologized: “Sorry. Was it wrong to take a picture?” “I can’t read my own handwriting,” the young woman explained. “It’s best if I take a picture of your writing so I can understand the notes.”
That remark started a class-wide conversation about taking a picture instead of taking notes. For those in the photo-taking camp, motivations extended beyond their inability to comprehend their own handwriting. Some took pictures of notes because they knew their phone was a safe place to store material. They might lose paper, they reasoned, but they wouldn’t lose their phones. Some took photos because they wanted to record exactly the manner in which I had noted information on the board. Others told me that during class they liked to be able to listen to the discussion attentively.
Yet the use of cameras as note takers, though it may be convenient, does raise significant questions for the classroom. Is a picture an effective replacement for the process of note-taking?
Instructors encourage students to take notes because the act of doing so is more than merely recording necessary information—it helps prepare the way for understanding. Encouraging students to take notes may be an old-fashioned instructional method, but just because a method has a long history doesn’t mean it’s out of date. Writing things down engages a student’s brain in listening, visual, and kinesthetic(触觉的)learning—a view supported by a longstanding research. The act of writing down information enables a person to begin committing it to memory, and to process and combine it, establishing the building blocks of learning new concepts.
Taking a picture does indeed record the information, but it deletes some of the necessary mental engagement that taking notes employs. So can the two be equally effective?
I’m not sure how to measure the effectiveness of either method. For now, I allow students to take notes however they see fit—handwritten or photographed—because I figure that some notes, no matter the method of note-taking, are better than none.
67.The woman apologized in the class because she____.
A. took a picture of the board B. missed the teachers’ directions
C. had the bad handwriting D. disturbed other students’ learning
68.Students refuse to take notes by hand because_____.
A. they are unable to take notes B. they are more likely to lose notes
C. they are interested in using their phones
D. they have a good memory of teachers’ instructions
69.According to the passage, taking notes by hand_______.
A. requires students to think independently B. is unsuitable for students to learn new ideas
C. helps students actively participate in learning
D. proves to be an old and useless learning method
70.What’s the author’s opinion towards taking notes by phones?
A. Supportive. B. Neutral(中立的). C. Doubtful. D. Disapproving.
第四部分 任务型阅读(每题1分,共10分)
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填1个单词。请将答案写在答题纸上相应题号的横线上。
You want to be confident and feel confident, but what if you're starting with little or no confidence? True self-confidence isn't an overnight acquisition. It takes dedication to realize you are a good human being that is worthy of respect and love.
Recognize your insecurities
What does that voice in the back of your mind say? Why do you feel uncomfortable or ashamed of yourself? This could be anything from regrets to friends at school or negative experience. Whatever is making you feel unworthy, or ashamed, identify it, give it a name, and write it down. You can also tear these written pieces to start feeling positive on those points.
Get rid of insecurities gradually
Each day you should weaken it. There's no quick fix. Get to the root of the problem; focus on it and understand that you need to resolve each issue before you can move on. Check if it is an old past emotion and if it is really still relevant or applicable in your life today. And that does not mean you have to get rid of whatever makes you feel bad (many times, you simply can't). You need to learn to accept yourself, your past, and your circumstances as they are, without necessarily thinking of them as “bad”.
Identify your successes
Everyone is good at something, so discover the things at which you do extremely well, then focus on your talents. Give yourself permission to be proud of them. Give yourself credit for your successes. Inferiority (自卑) is a state of mind in which you've declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized.
Be Positive
Avoid self-pity, or the pity and sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior—they can only do so if you let them. If you continue to dislike and look down upon yourself, others are going to do and believe likewise. Instead, speak in a positive way about yourself, about your future, and about your progress. Do not be afraid to show your strengths and qualities to others. By doing so, you strengthen those ideas in your mind and encourage your growth in a positive direction.
Apply “facial feedback theory”
Studies surrounding what’s called the "facial feedback theory" suggest that the expressions on your face can actually encourage your brain to express certain emotions. So look in the mirror and smile every day, and you might feel happier with yourself and more confident in the long run.
Help others
When you know you’re of help to the people around you, and are making a positive difference in other people’s lives (even if it's just being kinder to the person who serves you coffee in the morning), you'll know that you are a positive force in the world—which will boost yourself confidence.
Now, dear friends, will you let confidence keep you company? Be confident, and accomplishing your goals will be just around the corner.

第五部分 书面表达(25分)
A car needs gas to run and your body also needs food to work for you. Eating the right kind of food is very important. It can keep your body strong, so you should take care of what you eat.
There are four main food groups altogether. The dairy products group has food like milk. The other three groups are the meat and fish group, the fruit and vegetable group, and the bread and rice group. Each meal should have at least one food from all the four main groups. With all these food together you will be given enough energy during the day.
It is easy to get into bad eating habits. You may eat your breakfast in a hurry to get to school on time. Or you may not have time for a good lunch. It may seem easy to finish your supper with fish and chips all the time. But you will find yourself tired during these days and you can not think quickly.
Watching what you eat will help keep your body healthy and strong. It is also good to take some exercise. It will help you eat more if you take a walk or play games in the open air. Having a good eating habit with some exercise is the key to your health.

书面表达
We are what we eat. What we eat depends on main food groups. When we have got enough energy from all the food together, we can keep fit. A good eating habit with some exercise is good for health.
However, bad eating habits are still very common among us students. Some of us often go to school without breakfast; some like to have snacks; some others are particular about food; and still some eat or drink too much. All these bad habits will surely do harm to our health.
To keep fit, we should have various healthy diets, which generally include proper amounts of fish, meat, vegetables, fruit as well as main food. We need to develop good eating habits that will keep our lifetimes. Besides, we’d better have meals regularly. Mealtime is the ideal opportunity to set an example by creating a positive atmosphere in which healthy food attitudes can be developed. Only in this way can we have enough energy to study better.
