阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。

Escaping the crowds is all the more important this summer. We pick some of our favourite beaches for a day on the coast with the kids.
Earnse Bay, Cumbria
Few people come to Cumbria for its beaches, but west-facing, empty Earnse Bay on Walney Island (you’ll reach it across a bridge from Barrow-in-Furness) is perfect for a picnic. Views of the largest wind farm in Europe, the mountains of the Isle of Man and, on a clear day, Snowdonia, can be spectacular.
Blackgang Beach, Isle of Wight
Blackgang Beach is surely one of the least visited of all the island’s beaches and getting there’s as much fun as being there: you have to slide down a steep, sometimes slippery (but generally safe) path from Niton. The payoff is a glorious beach, overlooked by a magnificent sandstone cliff that looks like a vast slab(厚板)of honeycomb.
Chapman’s Pool,Dorset
Tucked away on Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck, Chapman’s Pool is far quieter than its better-known neighbour, Lulworth Cove. Its beauty is more than worth the modest effort needed to guide the footpath to the sand and storm. And as this is the Jurassic Coast, the kids will have every chance of finding shell fossils and small bits of Paleolithic reptiles.
Embleton Bay, Northumberland
Embleton Bay hides in plain sight behind the commanding Dunstanburgh Castle. Even on the sunniest day you can wander, fly a kite or watch seabirds with few concerns about social distancing. The castle looks like something a six-year-old might draw, perched on a cliff, with crumbling ramparts and a huge portcullis.

Poppy beamed at herself in the mirror. Her new dress was absolutely perfect. It was her favorite colour of blue and had a row of bows (蝴蝶结) down the front.
Poppy’s mother was making her famous fruit juice. “My goodness, sweetheart, why are you dressed up today ” she asked. “I’m trying on my dress for picture day tomorrow,” Poppy explained. “I want to make sure everything is perfect.”
“Well, I think you’re already perfect,” her mom said. “Be careful. Don’t spill it.” Poppy rolled her eyes, grabbing a cup of fruit and gulping it down.
Seconds later, her mom yelled, “Oh, sweetheart — you spilled your juice!” Poppy glanced down at the spots and gasped. She couldn’t go to school picture day like this! Her class picture would be in the yearbook forever. “It will be all right,” her mom said positively. “I’ll wash it tonight. It’ll be as good as new.”
The next morning, Poppy grabbed her blue dress out of the laundry basket. She pulled it over her head, but something wasn’t right. Poppy couldn’t lower her arms, and the bows pulled tightly. “Oh, no!” Poppy cried. “My dress shrank!” She ran to her closet to find something else she could wear. Finally, in the back of the closet, Poppy found an old yellow dress. Nevertheless, it would have to do.
While waiting for the class’s turn, she hoped it would never come. Maybe the camera couldn’t work or it happened to rain dogs and cats!
The class marched onstage. “All right,” the photographer called. “I guess we all have something we don’t like about our looks. None of us is perfect.”
Poppy glanced at her classmates. Rosa had a bandage taped across her nose. Tom was pulling at his pants, trying to hide his mismatched socks. Lei flashed a Jack-o’-lantern grin, showing several missing teeth. We’re all different, she thought. Maybe that’s what makes us special. Poppy breathed a sigh of relief.
“Cheese!” the photographer called out. The flash went off as the photographer snapped the picture of the yearbook. Poppy smiled her brightest. The picture day hadn’t gone the way she had planned. It had gone even better. “Perfect anyway!” she cried.
4. How did Poppy feel when she looked into the mirror
A. Upset. B. Relaxed. C. Nervous. D. Excited.
5. What happened to Poppy’s new blue dress the next morning
A. It was covered with spots.
B. It got less bright in color.

6. Why did Poppy think picture day was perfect in the end
A. The photographer cheered her up and made her relieved.
B. She realized and accepted her difference and uniqueness.
C. The picture of the yearbook was satisfying as expected.
D. She found her classmates on stage all had their problems.
7. What can be learned from the story
A. There are spots even on the sun.
B. Inner beauty is the real beauty.
C. Actions speak louder than words.
D. God helps those who help themselves.

American public schools offered transportation for their students long before the modern school bus. In the 1800s, many students attended one-room schoolhouses in rural areas where few people lived. Some students walked; others used horses or sleds to get to school. Over time, school districts used a system of horse-drawn wagons to pick up students and take them to school. In time, horse-drawn wagons gave way to cars, which picked up students before school and delivered them near home at the end of the day.
The first school buses that carried students didn’t look much like modern ones. A school bus from the 1920s, for example, looked like a long car. School buses gradually grew larger to hold more and more students. The yellow color of modern school buses was chosen because it was easy to spot. When buses stand out on the road, drivers see them and stop in time to allow students to board safely. Today, the law says that American school buses must be painted a color called “National School Bus Glossy Yellow.” The bright color helps drivers recognize school buses immediately.
Modern school buses are far safer than before. Bus drivers receive stricter safety training. What’s more, school buses have seats that help keep students safe in the event of a crash. Seat backs are made to absorb an impact when a school bus is hit hard. Buses may also include flashing stop signs, which alert drivers that students are getting off or on the bus. Some buses have cameras that help drivers see what’s happening inside the bus and outside.
Nowadays, some school districts are beginning to make changes to buses that help the environment. For example, one school bus in New York has an electric engine that doesn’t pollute the air. The bus can travel for about 120 miles (190 km) before it needs to be recharged. School buses can also cut down pollution by replacing private cars. The average school bus can drive fifty-four students, which keeps about thirty-six private cars off the road. This fact, along with newer, greener technology, can help keep the air cleaner.

A. The schooling of American rural areas.
B The history of American school buses.
C. The change of American public transport.

9. Why was the yellow colour chosen for modern school buses
A. To allow them to stop safely.
B. To make them look different.

10. Which of the following can replace the underlined phrase “absorb an impact”
A. Prevent a hit. B. Change a position.
C. Give a push. D. Reduce an effect.
11. What can be inferred about school buses from the last paragraph

Who likes salty potato chips the most The answer is British people! The trouble is that they are eating too many salty foods. Some of Britain’s largest restaurants are even serving dishes with unacceptably high levels of salt to children according to a survey.
Researchers from Action on Salt analyzed a total of 302 meals on children’s menu from 50 largest restaurants in Britain. They found that 41 percent contained more than 1.8 grams of salt, the largest recommended amount for a child’s meal set by Public Health England (PHE) in 2017. More seriously, 34 percent of the meals had more than 2g of salt. They also found that levels of salt for the same meal could be largely different, depending on which restaurant made them. The spaghetti made by the Italian restaurant Prezzo contained 3.2g of salt, compared with 0.3g in the one made by Beefeater.
In September 2020, PHE set out new suggestions for the largest number of salt in children’s meals. It wants the level reduced to 1.71g by 2024. According to this, nearly half of the meals surveyed were over this level, including most meals at Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Pizza Hut, while Brewers Fayre, Burber King and Ikea made all their children’s dishes with less than 1.71g of salt.
Gramham Mac Gregor, Chairman of Action on Salt, said, “Gradually reducing the salt that is added to our food is the most effective measure for lowering blood pressure, so that we can reduce thousands of stroke (中风) and heart disease that are caused by overeating salt.”
“As for those restaurants who are unwilling to follow the instructions, ministers must now force them to stop adding all of this salt and putting our children’s future health at risk,” said Graham. “Parents should also pay attention to it,” he added. “Try to serve our children with more homemade meals and fewer restaurant foods. Try to add spices (香料) to food instead of salt. Try them. Our kids will thank us.”
12. In Paragraph 2, how did the researchers mainly explain their findings
A. By analyzing figures.
B. By doing experiments.
C. By giving reasons.
D. By referring to another study.
13 Which restaurant is the best choice for parents eating with kids
A Prezzo. B. Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
C. Burger King. D. Pizza Hut.
14. Which statement does Gramhan agree with
A. Taking in too much salt can lower blood pressure.
B. Parents should stop dining out with their children.
C. All restaurants must stop adding salt to their meals.
D. Children’s future health should be taken seriously.
15. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Salt in Restaurant Food Is Increased
B. Salt in Meals Harms Humans’ Health
C. Salt in Children’s Meals Breaks Daily Limit
D. Salt Content Survey Caused Hot Discussion

A Lesson from My Sister
My parents worked very hard at ensuring that everything seemed pleasant for me and I mostly ignored the fact that my elder sister was different. The child psychologist had termed it as “Asperger Syndrome”(阿斯伯格综合症,一种自闭障碍).This diagnosis turned my parents world upside down-but they never let it affect me.
It was only at the age of ten that I started to notice the differences, and become conscious of my social life and self-image that I had carefully cultivated. My sister was socially awkward. She could not look at people in the eye. She would mumble(嘟哝)to herself and repeat the words she had just said under her breath. She, however, was academically capable, and hence we attended the same primary school. Despite this, I never, ever acknowledged in public that she was my sister. There was one incident, however, just two years ago, that remains imprinted in my consciousness. It was the incident that changed how I viewed my sister. It was the incident that changed me.
Being in primary six, about to graduate, my sister and her classmates had to put up a performance, whether in a group,or individually. Due to her inability to integrate(融入),my sister was the only one left without a group. The school had made it a rule for everyone to put up an item, so my sister had to perform individually. ”I’ll sing.” my sister told my parents, confidently. Hearing that, I was taken aback and completely shocked. I knew she would embarrass me, one way or another. “No!” I protested. My parents shot me a look and that was when I knew my sister was going to perform, no matter what. Silently, I prayed that something would happen and I would not have to watch my sister shame herself.
That day came. I sat in the hall, waiting for the performances to start. The lights dimmed(变昏暗) a minute or two later and the curtains parted to reveal the only solo-my sister. She blinked(眨眼)a couple of times, as if the lights shining on her were hurting her eyes.

8. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about
A. The schooling of American rural areas.
B. The history of American school buses.
C. The change of American public transport.
D. The development of American public schools.
9. Why was the yellow colour chosen for modern school buses
A. To allow them to stop safely.
B. To make them look different.
C. To avoid the danger of road accidents.
D. To help students recognize them easily.
10. Which of the following can replace the underlined phrase “absorb an impact”
A. Prevent a hit. B. Change a position.
C. Give a push. D. Reduce an effect.
11. What can be inferred about school buses from the last paragraph
A. They are going greener.
B. They can travel longer.

Who likes salty potato chips the most The answer is British people! The trouble is that they are eating too many salty foods. Some of Britain’s largest restaurants are even serving dishes with unacceptably high levels of salt to children, according to a survey.
13. Which restaurant is the best choice for parents eating with kids
A. Prezzo. B. Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
C. Burger King. D. Pizza Hut.
14. Which statement does Gramhan agree with
A. Taking in too much salt can lower blood pressure.
B. Parents should stop dining out with their children.
C. All restaurants must stop adding salt to their meals.
D. Children’s future health should be taken seriously.

47. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150词左右;
2.段落开头已给出。
Paragraph 1:
It took about a whole minute for her to stammer(口吃,结巴地说)her name and class.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
How did I not know that my sister could sing so sweetly
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】It took about a whole minute for her to stammer her name and class. By that time, murmurs were heard in the audience. "Why is she taking so long " people around me asked. I shifted nervously in my seat, wishing I were somewhere else. Finally, my sister started to sing. I braced myself for the worst. She opened her mouth, and I was transfixed-she sang effortlessly and melodiously. Her voice rang unselfconsciously through the hall, beautiful in its power. I exhaled and watched in wonder.
How did I not know that my sister could sing so sweetly How could I have doubted my sister’s abilities I listened ever so carefully to the lyrics she had composed all by herself and my heart gave way. I had been so wrong. Guilt and shame filled my heart as I listened to my sibling. Although she knew that I was embarrassed by her and was reluctant to attend her concert, she had forgiven me; she had never taken anything that I had done to her to heart. It was then that I resolved to love her unconditionally. It was as if a veil had been lifted from my eyes, and my heart was full.
