Holidays in the Italian Lakes allow you to relax and forget about the worries of every day.

Various architectural wonders, such as the natural history museum and ancient castles are just waiting to be explored.
Lake Como
From Leonardo da Vinci to Mark Twain, this wonderful lake has been an ideal place to produce poetic and artistic masterpieces for years. As one of the city’s most popular free outdoor events, the Cape Town Carnival is a multicultural celebration which focuses on social inclusion and bridging the divide between the diverse communities of the Western Cape and specifically Cape Town. It’s a celebration of the many diverse cultures which makes Cape Town stand out from the most world-famous cities. The carnival is considered a community participation event by the Western Cape Government and draws bigger crowds each year.
The event serves a platform for local performance groups, designers, musicians and artists to showcase their talents to the world. Every year, it may create over 1, 000 part-time jobs. The long-term vision, however, is to create more programmes focusing on skills development, thus permanently employing people. Since 2010 when the carnival was held on Long Street, it has become the festival of the year, and has grown from 17, 000 spectators to as many as 55, 000. This year, the carnival will be held on the Fan Walk in Green Point.
And its theme is Mother City, Mother Nature, exploring two of Cape Town’s greatest assets, its natural beauty and its people. The festival will showcase what makes the Mother City one of the most unique cities in the world. Over 2, 000 shining costumed performers and musicians will take to Cape Town’s Fan Walk, entertaining viewers with floats (花车) and dynamic dance routines. The parade (游行) will be followed by a grand street party, showcasing some of South Africa’s hottest musical talent.
Fans and tourists are encouraged to join in the street festivities anytime from 16: 00, when it will turn into a pedestrian walkway with 2km of food stands and festive hospitality (好客) areas. Later in the evening Cape Town will up the pace with the most appealing and festive open air party, the Cape Town Carnival Street Party! As we all know, plastic products like bags, bottles, toys and various other products end up in our oceans daily. They then pollute and kill marine animals, which ultimately affects humans because it causes widespread starvation among sea life which we depend on for food sources. With global levels of plastic waste in the ocean at an all-time high, there has never been a better time to consider making your swimwear from alternative sources.
It’s time to end the plastic waste polluting our oceans, but we’re not going to wait for someone else to do it. Creating swimsuits and other clothing items out of plastic collected from our oceans might seem pretty far-fetched, but Seamore (after Seamus Malone, our founder) is doing just that. We aim to make people more aware of how much plastic they use every day by providing stylish swimsuits made entirely from recycled ocean plastics.
The process is simple. Gather plastic waste from oceans and waterways, clean it, and turn it functional. Manufacturers (生产商) receive recycled plastic pellet (团粒) material and they press those pellets into fiber sheets; and then they die-cut, sew, or print those fibers into whatever products they want. It’s manufacturers who can decide whether their final product will be recyclable or not. Swimwear collections made from recycled materials found in our oceans illustrate how much impact we can have on our world when we set out to do so with pure intentions.
Today, as more and more people are taking part in water-centric activities, there is greater demand for water-friendly clothing options, especially among individuals looking for alternatives that meet their needs for comfort and functionality in and out of water. But the sad truth is that most of us have no idea where our clothing comes from — and if a recent report is accurate, one-third of all clothing purchased isn’t even worn before it ends up in a landfill.
28. Why is the first paragraph mainly written
A. To show what influence plastic waste has.
B. To introduce a new environmental effort.
C. To illustrate how sea life survive the crisis.
D. To predict the possible effects of pollution.
29. How docs Scamore help people with environmental protection
A. By producing alternative energy from ocean.
B. By promoting programmes to educate people.
C. By offering swimwear made from sea plastics.
D. By means of organizing theme-related speeches.
30. What can be inferred from the text
A. It’s easy to collect ocean-based waster. B. Fibre is made from ocean plastic pellets.
C. A product’s recyclability is up to its maker. D. Swimwear can test how we impact marine life.
31. How does the author feel about people’s knowledge about clothing
A. Positive. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Cold.

Anyone who’s lived through middle school knows those years can be particularly challenging. Teaching students bike riding skills as part of physical education classes may help improve their mental health, a new study found. The study comes at a time when research shows that youths across the U. S. are starting to experience all sorts of social pressures, anxiety, stress from school, stress from home. So it’s a really important time to provide additional chances to explore not only physical activity, but also the freedom and relief that can come with going out for a bike ride during the day.
The study involved more than 1,200 middle schoolers, ages 11 to 14. They participated in a cycling class for at least three days a week, for a minimum of 6 weeks. They learned cycling safety and maneuvering (操作) skills outdoors while raising their heart rate and just having fun. They completed standardized screening questionnaires before and after the program designed to measure their well-being. It showed that some of the participants’ mental health was improved. “Cycling engages all of these other parts of brain function,” says Reiss, a child and adolescent neuropsychiatrist. “You’re looking at your hearing, you’re balancing, you’re navigating and turning. But often, you’re doing it with someone else, so there’s the positive effect of company or group activity. And that’s the point!”
Of course, while exercise has powerful mental health benefits, it’s not a panacea. For example, previous research has shown that adolescent girls are at higher risk of mental health problems like depression and anxiety than boys. The current study found that, while middle school girls reported increased well-being after participating in the cycling program, that increase “may just reach the kind of baseline level for male students,” says Esther Walker, the senior research program manager.
32. What message does Paragraph 1 want to convey
A. Middle schoolers are suffering from rides.
B. The US youths are struggling with mental health.
C. The US physical education is far from satisfaction.
D. Cycling is the best class to enhance kids’ health
33. What can we know from Paragraph 2
A. All participants were mentally better. B. Participants’ heart rate was measured.
C. Bike-riding has social benefits as well. D. Cycling involves a typical brain function.
34. What does the phrase “a panacea” underlined probably mean
A. A cure-all. B. A blueprint. C. A shorteut. D. A must-see.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Cycling in Middle School May Boost Mental Health
B. What Can Middle Schoolers Get from Riding a Bike
C. What Are Bike-riding Classes like in Middle Schools
D. Riding a Bicyele Is Now Favored by School Children

It was a freezing cold morning in early 2023. I was on my way to work. I’d been training hard for an upcoming marathon, and was limping (跛行) slightly from a pain in my hip. I figured it was nothing serious. But later it turned out to be a hairline stress fracture (应力断裂).
So, when I slipped on the icy New York City sidewalk, I somehow lost my balance and broke my hip. I tried several times to stand up, but failed each time due to the sharp pain. As more and more passers-by gathered around, I felt extremely embarrassed.
Just at that time, a stranger emerged from the crowd and knelt beside me. All I remembered was seeing her kind face, all covered up, with a big hat and scarf. She pushed everyone out of the way and said, “I’ve got this.”
The woman introduced herself as Sharon Evans. As she helped me up, all I could think about was that I needed to get to work. But I was in terrible pain, and could barely stand. Seeing this, Sharon told me to stay put while she called a taxi.
“No, you don’t have to do that. I’m sure you have places to be, please don’t, I can do it,” I said to her. “No, the taxi is arriving anytime,” she replied.
Once the taxi arrived, Sharon supported me into the taxi and went with me. I tried to tell her that it wasn’t necessary. But she was persistent. To be honest, I was secretly relieved to have her company.
When the taxi pulled up to the hospital, Sharon took charge again. “You know what, I’m going to go get the wheelchair for you and I’ll wheel you in.” I hesitantly said, “Please don’t do that. You’ve done so much.”

【原文】M: Good afternoon. Welcome to the first meeting of our spring cycling season. I certainly hope that most of you will soon feel right at home with our group and that bicycling will become a regular hobby for you. Some of you may not realize that the state of New Jersey offers enough opportunities for bicyclists of all abilities. Beginners will find the shore and area suitable for their needs while expert riders will discover that the rough paths to the region offer a challenge to their skill and energy. We organize tours to a lot of places at weekends. Next Saturday’s tour will be an easy one. People interested in cycling should meet at eight am in the parking area. The minimum time for this tour is about five hours. We will use a “buddy system” throughout the ride. If the buddies take care of each other, we can be sure that no one will be left behind on the back roads. You can pick up a map of Saturday’s tour at the information table before you leave.

It’s time to end the plastic waste polluting our oceans but we’re not going to wait for someone else to do it.
A. Positive. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Cold.
【答案】28. A 29. C 30. C 31. B

【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. A

【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段“The study involved more than 1,200 middle schoolers, ages 11 to 14. They participated in a cycling class for at least three days a week, for a minimum of 6 weeks.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Possible version
My condition was serious and I needed an immediate operation. Sharon didn’t just go into the hospital with me. She helped me fill out the intake paperwork, paid the fee and even took me to the bathroom. She also tried to contact my family, but they were outside of the city and couldn’t go back in time. Still Sharon chose to stay with me. I tried to persuade her to leave, to get to work. And each time, She refused. Once it was time for me to be seen by doctors, Sharon left.
Six months later, I fully recovered and managed to get her address. I decided to thank her in her presence. As I got to her house, I gently knocked the door. It was Sharon who came out and opened the door. I could see surprise in her eyes. “Sharon, it’s me, Lauren. I’ve come to thank you for saving my life!” She hugged me and said. “I wish I could have done more for you.” Such simple words really carried me away. It is this total stranger who shows me the faith in humanity.
