French writer Annie Ernaux won the 2022 Nobel Prize in literature on Oct 6. She is the first French female to win the prize. In the words of the Nobel committee, Ernaux was given the award for the courage and sharp insight of her writing.
Having spent over five decades as a writer, the 82-year-old winner has published more than 20 books to her name, including Cleaned Out, Shame, a 2008 memoir called The Years and A Girl’s Story. Rather than consider herself a writer of fiction, Ernaux has used the term “an ethnologist (民族学家) of herself” to describe herself.
Born in 1940 in a rural village in Normandy, France, Ernaux grew up in a working-class environment as her parents ran a combined grocery store and cafe. She worked as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer.
According to CNN her “upbringing and experiences navigating adolescence and adulthood” inspire many of her works. For example the book Shame explores the theme of childhood trauma while A Girl’s Story follows a young woman’s coming of age in the 1950s.
Though the matters Ernaux describes in her books are serious and even sometimes heavy, they are always written in plain language. Ernaux described her style as “flat writing” through which she aims to tell her stories objectively, “unshaped by florid description or overwhelming emotions.” noted Fox News.
“She writes about things that no one else writes about, for instance her jealousy, her experiences as an abandoned lover and so forth, I mean, really hard experiences,” Anders Olsson, chairman of the Nobel Committee for Literature said after the award announcement in Stockholm. He went on to say, “She gives words for these experiences that are very simple and striking. They are short books, but they are really moving.”
24. What can we learn about Annie Ernaux from the text

B. The Nobel committee described her as “an ethnologist of herself”.
C. She was awarded for the bravery and observations shown in her writing.
D. She started working as a full-time writer in 1974.
25. Where did she get inspiration for her works
A. Her students’ lives. B. The stories of guests to her cafe.
C. The history of her hometown. D. Her personal experiences.
26. Which of the following best describes Ernaux’s writing style
A. Objective and easy to understand. B. Plain and relaxing.
C. Descriptive and serious. D. Emotional and touching.
27. Why is Annie Ernaux different from other writers, according to Anders Olsson
A. She shares painful feelings through her writing. B. She suffered a lot of hardships.
C. Her works are about unexplored subjects. D. Her works are short and moving.

A broken heart. A sad ending to a love story. That’s something most of us have experienced, or probably will. After all, it’s part of human life. But no question, the experience can be hard to get over.
But research shows there are ways to deal with heartaches. Listening to sad music is a useful one. It can help you begin to feel joy and hopefulness about your life again. It can arouse (激发,唤醒) the interest to connect with others.
Sad music can help uplift you from your broken heart. A recent study from Germany found the emotional (情感的) influence of listening to sad music is an access to feelings of empathy (共情), and a hope for positive connection with others. That, itself, is psychologically healing (愈合). It draws you away from concentration on yourself, and possibly towards helping others in need of comfort.
Another experiment, from the University of Kent, found that when people were experiencing sadness, listening to music that was “beautiful but sad” improved their mood. In fact, it did so when the person first consciously accept the situation causing their sadness, and then began listening to the sad music. That is, when they intended that the sad music might help, they found that it did.
These findings link with other studies that show accepting your sad situation emotionally leads to healing and growth beyond it. It seems unbelievable but it does help. For example, a research from Comell University, published in Psychological Science, found that accepting discomfort about a life experience or new situation, and viewing it as a step towards growth and change, encourages people to find a pathway through it, beyond it. As Churchill famously said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” That discomfort points you towards creating a plan, a new action. It fuels hope.
28. What does the author think of “having a broken heart” in life
A. Unavoidable. B. Unbearable. C. Inspiring. D. Helpful.
29. What does Churchill advise us to do when experiencing discomfort
A. Listen to a sad song. B. Avoid unwise actions.
C. Find support from others. D. Face the discomfort bravely.
30. How does the author develop this text
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving advice.
C. By sharing personal experiences. D. By showing research findings.
31. Which is the best title for the text
A. Ways to deal with challenges B. Music matters a lot.
C. Sad music helps a broken heart D. Advice on living a healthy life
【答案】28. A 29. D 30. D 31. C

Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT has got viral, winning 100 million internet users since it came out in November 2022. People can ask the robot to write stories and emails, create instructions for cooking a certain food, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions. In its own words, it is “a language model trained in a large amount of internet text to help users get human-like text. ”
Compared with Siri or other chatbots, ChatGPT uses a much bigger information center for training. It also uses stronger software and hardware to learn things by itself. For example, if it provides a wrong answer to your question, you can tell it the right one and it will correct itself. “It’s a totally different chatbot,” computer scientist Liu Xiaoguang from Nankai University said. “The knowledge level ChatGPT shows is the same as a university student. That’s why it shocked the world.”
But one big problem with ChatGPT is that it makes mistakes or even gives false information. When Rezza, a 28-year-old from Indonesia, used the robot to write an passage, it “gave out many examples which other writers actually hadn’t mentioned at all”, he told a local newspaper. Since the robot is trained using words from the internet, it can also pick up biases(偏见) about certain groups. These are all things that need to be dealt with.

A. ChatGPT needs improvement. B. Anybody may give false information.
C. Anybody can make mistakes. D. ChatGPT can’t get on well with humans.
35. What might be the best title of the text
A. ChatGPT is Coming! B. ChatGPT is Catching the World’s Eyes!

Handwritten Chinese characters can be beautiful. Living in a digital era with smartphones and computers most students sooner or later ask themselves this question:____36____

Handwriting characters trains your muscle memory, making characters stay longer in your memory and improving your reading and speaking skills. ____38____However, without knowing how to write characters by hand, you are very unlikely to reach a level above intermediate (中级的).
____39____Handwriting characters is a form of meditation. Once you learn how to stay focused, you will not only notice that your concentration skills improve, but you will also find yourself feeling calm and relaxed when writing characters.
Most people agree that we should learn to write last least some characters at some point as a student of Chinese, although not necessarily straight away and not necessarily all the characters that you can say. But unless you don’t care about written language at all, you should learn the basics of handwriting.____40____You don’t need to be a calligraphy master, but you do need basic handwriting skills to do this. Simply looking at things is, as usual, a bad way of learning.
A. And amazingly you can understand it.

D. Learning characters is a good idea for all students.
E. Without it, it will be very hard to understand characters.
F. Is it really necessary to learn how to write by hand in Chinese
G. You can learn Chinese to a certain level without handwriting characters.

【36题详解】
上文“Handwritten Chinese characters can be beautiful. Living in a digital era with smartphones and computers, most students sooner or later ask themselves this question”(手写汉字很漂亮。
上文“Knowing how to write Chinese characters by hand is just cool. It feels like magic when you write a few strokes (笔画)on paper that don’t normally make sense, but they suddenly come together and create a meaning.”(知道如何用手写汉字是一件很酷的事情。 故选A项。
【38题详解】
下文“However, without knowing how to write characters by hand, you are very unlikely to reach a level above intermediate(中级的).”(然而,不知道如何用手写字的话,你很可能达不到中级水平)说明不会写汉字的话,我们的汉语达不到中级水平,这里转折了,说明不会写汉字的话我们的汉语水平只能停留在一定的水平上。G项说不会手写汉字的话你的汉语可以达到一定水平,但只能停留在这儿了,符合题意。故选G项。
39题详解】
下文“Handwriting characters is a form of meditation. Once you learn how to stay focused, you will not only notice that your concentration skills improve, but you will also find yourself feeling calm and relaxed when writing characters.”(手写汉字是一种冥想。一旦学会了专注,你就会发现这不仅可以提高专注能力,还可以让你在写字的时候变得平静和轻松)说明写汉字可以提高我们的专注度,C项说手写汉字可以训练专注度,符合题意。故选C项。
【40题详解】
上文“But unless you don’t care about written language at all, you should learn the basics of handwriting.”(但是,除非你根本不在乎书写语言,否则你应该学习书写的基础)说明如果我们在乎书写语言,就应该学习书写的基础。从而可知,书写基础对于汉字的理解很重要。E项说没有手写汉字基础的话,汉字很难理解。其中it指的就是the basics of handwriting。故选E项。

B. Unbearable. C. Inspiring. D. Helpful.

C. By sharing personal experiences. D. By showing research findings.
31. Which is the best title for the text
