与众不同的街区
Palmitas is a poor neighborhood in the city of Pachuca, Mexico, but recently, it has gotten a far more welcome kind of attention. As you can see, a group of artists, working with people who live there, painted the front of 209 houses in bright colours to create the world's largest mural(壁画). The grey walls have become a rainbow of colours. Viewed up closely, the mural includes more mini murals.
The artists repainted 20,000 square meters of gray walls to create what the city government bills as the largest mural in Mexico. “It has been a community effort，” said project director Enrique Gomez. 1题The project was created to make people feel better about where they lived. “The neighborhood changed completely. The colours gave it life，” said Dona Chela, a villager who lives there. First, all the houses were painted white, to show that all the people were the same. 2题Then the artists worked with the people who live there to paint the houses.
The bright colour of swirls(漩涡) swept across several houses and formed a pattern that stands for the city's name－the beautiful windy city.
3题Life in Las Palmitas before the project was very different. People used to avoid going out after dark and didn't talk to each other much. There were social problems. Enrique Gomez himself was a problem member. This helped him to win the trust of young people in the neighborhood. The artists repainted 20,000 square meters of gray walls to create what the city government bills as the largest mural in Mexico. “It has been a community effort，” said project director Enrique Gomez. 1题The project was created to make people feel better about where they lived. “The neighborhood changed completely. The colours gave it life，” said Dona Chela, a villager who lives there. First, all the houses were painted white, to show that all the people were the same. 2题Then the artists worked with the people who live there to paint the houses.
