Festivals of China
There are many traditional holidays in China.
Spring Festival is the most important one in China. It is as important as Christmas in the West. On the evening before Spring Festival, all the family members meet and have a big dinner. After the dinner, they uaually watch TV and play games.
The next one is the Lantern Festival (元宵节). It falls in the 15th night of the first lunar month. People often eat glutinous rice balls(Tangyuan), and go out to enjoy the lantern show.
Then comes the Dragon Boat Festival (端午节). It is in the 5th lunar month. It is a festival to honour (纪念) an ancient poet Qu Yuan. People often hold dragon boat competitions (龙舟赛) on that day. So it is now a festival of the Chinese traditional sports.
The next one is the Mid-Autumn Festival. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. The whole family sit in the open air and enjoy the bright moon while (2) they’re eating moon cakes and fruit.

In China，Spring Festival is the most important festival. It comes on the first day of the first lunar month.
Before Spring Festival comes，people go out to buy things， such as chicken， fish， fruit， sweets and new clothes. They clean their houses and decorate them. The Chinese character(汉字) fu is a must. It is usually stuck(贴) upside down， which means "fu comes".
The celebrations begin on the eve of the lunar New Year. The family get together for a big dinner. If a person is far from home， he will always try to get home for this big dinner. After the dinner, the whole family will sit together， talking and watching TV.
During the holidays they go to visit relatives(亲戚) and friends and exchange(交换) New Year greetings. They sit around talking and eating candies， cakes and all kinds of delicious food. Every family prepares something special. Each child will get lucky money as a New Year gift. People in the north of China often eat dumplings for breakfast. People in the south often eat niangao because niangao means "higher and higher one year after another".
