First, I think an interest(爱好) in English is very important. When I was in Grade One, we had a new subject—English. It was fresh for me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! After that, I learned English harder and harder. Our English teacher often teaches us English songs, the songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is!

When I started teaching in school, I was sure I would change the world and touch children who needed love.
Although most of my students seemed to respond pretty well to my teaching, there was a small group of teenage girls who became more and more hostile (敌对的) toward me.
One day a fight happened in my classroom. Attempting to end it, I stepped in to face one of these hostile young women, who started hitting me in the face. Two boys jumped up to control the girl, but the damage was done.
While the girl was suspended for a few days, I was determined that she would not return to my classroom. But I also prayed. I wanted to see all the students right there in my daily work at school.
On the top of my daily lesson-plan book, I wrote this statement, “To see all the children in my classroom is always beautiful.” It was the first thing I saw each day when I started teaching. With this view I could expect healing in my heart of any anger toward the girl.
After her suspension, she returned to my classroom. The student’s young mother was trying to raise six children while her husband was away in the war overseas. The mother and I agreed to work together to help her eldest daughter.
There were no more incidents of anger the rest of the year. In fact, in the seven years I remained at that school, I taught all six of this family’s children. When the youngest was in my class, the mother told me, “Our family loves you. Every year one of my kids says, ‘I hope I’m in her classroom!’”
The standard of seeing each of my students as perfect was the best teaching tool I had, which led to success in the classroom.

D
I never saw my father back home from work late or ill, nor did I ever see my father take a night out with the boys. He had no hobbies but just took care of his family.
For 22 years, since I left home for college, my father called me every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. He was always interested in my life — how my family was doing. The calls even came when he and my mother were in Australia, England or Florida.
Nine years ago when I bought my first house, my father, 67 years old, spent eight hours a day for three days, painting my house. He would not allow me to pay someone to have it done. All he asked was a glass of iced tea, and that I hold a paintbrush for him and talk to him. But I was too busy, for I had a law practice to run, and I could not take the time to hold the paintbrush, or talk to my father.
Five years ago, my 71-year-old father spent five hours putting together a swing set (秋千) for my daughter. Again, all he asked was that I get him a glass of iced tea, and talk to him. But again, I had the laundry to do, and the house to clean.
The morning on Sunday, January 15, 1995, my father telephoned me as usual, this time he had seemed to have forgotten some things we had discussed the week before. I had to go to church, and I cut the conversation short.
The call came at 4:40 p.m. That day my father was sent to hospital in Florida. I got on a plane immediately, and I vowed (发誓) that when I arrived, I would make up for the lost time, and have a nice long talk with him and really get to know him.
I arrived in Florida at 1:00 a.m., but my father had passed away at 9:12 p.m. This time it was he who did not have time to talk, or time to wait for me.
In the years since his death I have learnt much about my father, and even more about every single day.
43. We know from the reading that the father ________.
A. liked to paint houses
B. had no friends around him
C. was not healthy in his youth
D. thought of his family as his all
44. When her father painted her first house, the daughter ________.
A. could only afford a glass of iced tea
B. was too busy to talk to her father
C. could do nothing but hold a paintbrush
D. spent eight hours a day working with her father
45. Which is the best title of the text

根据空前“A class teacher, in my opinion, plays an important role in a child’s development.”(在我看来,班主任在孩子的成长过程中起着重要的作用。) 以及空后“This year, she is moving to Class Three and I can’t wait to see how things are going on.”(今年,她要搬到三班,我迫不及待地想知道她的进展。) 故C项“Every year when my daughter moves to a new class, I have a usual big worry—her new class teacher.”(每年我的女儿换到一个新班,我都会有一个惯例的担心——她的新班主任。)
根据下文“She becomes an early bird. She’s happy. She’s responsible.”(她成了早起的鸟儿。她是快乐的。她是负责任的。)以及Her diary is full of praises. 都是描写作者的女儿到新的班级后发生的变化,所以A项“Here are the changes in my daughter.”(这是我女儿的变化。) 故选A。
根据空前“She’s responsible. ”(她是负责任的。)说明她现在的变化,以及空后“But now she never forgets even her water bottle at school.”(但是现在她从来不会忘记她在学校的水瓶。)可知,对比前面她过去常常粗心和健忘,所以F项“She used to be careless and forgetful.”(她过去粗心大意,很健忘。)
根据空前“Last year, her diary was always full of negative reports. One time, she poured water in a child’s lunchbox, another time she threw another kid’s textbook in the toilet. ”(去年,她的日记里总是满是负面报道。有一次,她把水倒进一个孩子的午餐盒里,还有一次,她把另一个孩子的课本扔进了厕所。)可知,前面是以前的表现,对比空处现在的变化以及 “She’s always volunteering to clean the blackboard, the teacher’s chair and desk.”(她总是自愿打扫黑板、老师的椅子和课桌。) 可知,这里也展现了孩子现在,她开始主动帮助别人,所以B项“Now she began to share her snacks with those who did not have anything.”(现在,她开始与那些没有任何东西的人分享她的零食。)
根据空后“Finishing her classwork was such a big problem. She had to do it at home. But now, she finished both the classwork and homework at school. ”(完成她的作业是一个大问题。她不得不在家里做。但是现在,她在学校完成了课堂作业和家庭作业。)可知现在,作者的女儿在学校完成作业,这表现很好,所以G项“She does well in school.”(她在学校表现很好)符合上下文语境。故选G。

七、读后续写
77. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Growing up, we didn’t have much money. Actually, we had very little. We lived in a small house with holes in the floor. We wore old clothes and had little food. With three little mouths to feed, my daddy worked as a gatekeeper in a middle school and then farmed our own small field until dark. Daddy provided the best he could for us and mama made our clothes on her old sewing machine. We could have easily applied for welfare, but my parents wouldn't think of it. Our family was full of love and proud of hard work
Then I was in the third grade, in Mrs. Harper’s class. One day, Mrs. Harper brought a huge box of toys to school to give to “poor” children. Everyone was invited to bring some of his or her own toys from home to put in the box. Needless to say. I had hardly any toys of my own to offer.
My eyes got big the next day when I looked into that box. It was like a dream world to me — so many colorful toys! Clearly, Mrs. Harper saw the curious look on my face, and although I never asked with a smile, she let me pick out two toys for myself from the box. I was so thankful and thought that I was the luckiest girl in the whole world!
When I got home. I couldn't wait to show mama what I brought from the school. She admired the toys and asked where I got them. I told her about the box for the poor children and that Mrs. Harper had let me pick two toys from the box!Mama thought for a few seconds and said in a very sweet way, “No…no, You can’t keep these two toys.”
Paragraph 1:
Mama explained to me that those toys were for “poor” children.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Mrs. Harper said she understood what mama meant.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mama explained to me that those toys were for "poor" children. She took me by the hand and showed me around our house and said that we had a house to live in and that we had enough to eat. Above all, we had a family and we loved each other. We were not poor at all. But there were many children who didn't. They were the people who really needed the toys. Eventually she asked me to take the two toys back to school and put them in Mrs. Harper's box.
Mrs. Harper said she understood chat mama meant. And after school, she took me and some of my classmates to the street to hand out those toys. When I saw the smiles on the faces of those homeless children, I began to understand what mama had told me. Mama was long gone. But her words have stayed with me all the time.
Mama explained to me that those toys were for “poor” children.
Mrs. Harper said she understood what mama meant.
She took me by the hand and showed me around our house and said that we had a house to live in and that we had enough to eat. But there were many children who didn’t. When I saw the smiles on the faces of those homeless children, I began to understand what mama had told me.

2. Some things should be read slowly throughout. Examples are directions for making or doing something, arithmetic problems, science and history books, which are full of important information. You must read such things slowly to remember each important step and understand each important idea.
3. Some things should be read rapidly throughout. Examples are simple stories meant for enjoyment, news, and letters from friends, items, or bits of news from local, or hometown, paper, telling what is happening to friends and neighbors.
4. In some of your readings, you must change your speed from fast to slow to fast, as you go along. You need to read certain pages rapidly and then slow down and do more careful readings when you come to important ideas which must be remembered.
31. According to the passage, your reading speed depends on ________.

How I Study English
I often hear some students say English is difficult, and it gives them a headache. So they can’t learn it well. But English is very easy for me. I’m good at it. I’m very glad to tell you something about how I study English.
Second, I think English is a foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: Listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary(词汇). Then practice again and again, never be tired. And I also have a good habit: Asking whenever(不论何时) I have a question, I must make it clear by asking our English teacher. How happy I am when I understand!

On the top of my daily lesson-plan book I wrote this statement, “To see all the children in my classroom is always beautiful.” It was the first thing I saw each day when I started teaching. With this view I could expect healing in my heart of any anger toward the girl.
After her suspension she returned to my classroom.
