Passage1
(2022秋·山东潍坊高三统考)To put into words my time in Antarctica and South Georgia is nearly impossible. I had always described it as a once in a lifetime experience, but as soon as I stepped foot on the continent, I immediately knew I needed to return.
___36___ About 50% of the passengers of our expedition(远征)had been to Antarctica at least once before. This goes to show just how magical of a destination it is.
All your senses will be stimulated...is the best way I can describe the time on the white continent. How tiny you feel next to towering glaciers and icebergs. The icy water moving through your body as you take the infamous Polar Plunge. The learning of heart-touching stories of survival from explorers of the past. ___37___
Antarctica makes you feel so small and insignificant, in the best way. ___38___ You get front row seats to witness the most incredible show: nature. It is as much beautiful as is it cruel. Like seeing a brown skua(贼鸥)attacking a penguin chick. Your heart aches. Then your expedition guide regretfully tells you that a chick that is small in March would have very slim chances of surviving the upcoming winter. The cycle continues, and you’re left wondering who to root for.
Things move fast in Antarctica, and every month offers something really unique and special to see. In March, the weather is a bit more unpredictable, and the sea ice is beginning to form again. ___39___ In two more weeks, expedition ships would not be able to break through the ice.
The penguins are completing their yearly feather-changing process. ___40___ The expedition team made sure we kept our distance and did not scare them into hiding under freezing water.
These animals, arguably the cutest you will ever see, survive such unfavorable environments. It’s absolutely incredible to witness the challenges, the skill, the efforts, all of it. I am forever grateful to have been a visitor.
A.The list goes on.
B.But this is not always the case.
C.Our voyage was the last of the season.
D.I was not the only one who felt this way.
E.I, years later, did return to this fascinating place.
F.They are really weak during this time, and cannot dive.
G.Everything has a purpose, and the cycle of life is evident.
【解析】根据上文“I had always described it as a once in a lifetime experience, but as soon as I stepped foot on the continent, I immediately knew I needed to return.(我一直把它描述为一生一次的经历,但我一踏上这块大陆,就立刻知道我需要回去)”以及下文内容“About 50% of the passengers of our expedition(远征)had been to Antarctica at least once before. This goes to show just how magical of a destination it is.(我们远征中大约50%的乘客以前至少去过南极洲一次。这说明了它是一个多么神奇的目的地)”可知,有很多人都不是第一次去南极洲,也就是想再去南极洲的人不止作者一个。选项D“I was not the only one who felt this way.(我不是唯一有这种感觉的人)”承接上文总结下文,故选D。
37.【答案】A
【解析】根据上文内容“How tiny you feel next to towering glaciers and icebergs. The icy water moving through your body as you take the infamous Polar Plunge. The learning of heart-touching stories of survival from explorers of the past.(在高耸的冰川和冰山旁,你会觉得自己多么渺小。当你进行极富盛名的极地跳水时,冰冷的水穿过你的身体。从过去的探险家那里学习感人的生存故事)”可知,上文提到的是作者在南极洲时的各种体验。选项A“The list goes on.(这样的例子不胜枚举)是对上文的总结,同时也说明作者的感慨颇多,故选A。
38.【答案】G
【解析】根据下文“You get front row seats to witness the most incredible show: nature. It is as much beautiful as is it cruel. Like seeing a brown skua(贼鸥)attacking a penguin chick. Your heart aches. Then your expedition guide regretfully tells you that a chick that is small in March would have very slim chances of surviving the upcoming winter. The cycle continues, and you’re left wondering who to root for.(你可以近距离地见证到最不可思议的表演:大自然。它既美丽又残酷。比如看到一只棕色贼鸥攻击一只小企鹅。你很心痛。然后你的探险向导遗憾地告诉你,三月里还小的小企鹅在即将到来的冬天里生存的机会非常渺茫。这样的循环还在继续,你还在想该支持谁)可知,大自然以自己的方式延续下去。选项G“Everything has a purpose, and the cycle of life is evident.(万物皆有目的,生命的循环是显而易见的)”引出下文,与段意一致,故选G。
39.【答案】C
【解析】根据下文“In two more weeks, expedition ships would not be able to break through the ice.(再过两个星期,探险船就无法破冰了)”可知,再过两个星期,探险船就无法进入南极洲。选项C“Our voyage was the last of the season.(我们的航行是这个季节的最后一次)”承接下文,故选C。
40.【答案】F
【解析】根据空前“The penguins are completing their yearly feather-changing process.(企鹅们正在完成一年一度的羽毛更换过程)”以及下文“The expedition team made sure we kept our distance and did not scare them into hiding under freezing water.(探险队确保我们保持距离,没有吓到它们躲在冰冷的水中)”可知,本段主要讲述了企鹅,空前说的是企鹅正在换羽毛;下文说探险队不能惊吓企鹅,以防落水。 F“They are really weak during this time, and cannot dive.(它们在这段时间非常虚弱,不能潜水)”承上启下,故选F。

Passage1
How I Signed My Kids Up for Rock Climbing
As a sports family we’ve tried it all. However, we were lost when it came to finding a sport for our two youngest, 9 and 11. They can’t play on the same team because of the age difference and gender separation in sports.
I was about to throw in the towel when I was hit by inspiration. It was at the farmer’s market that I saw a group from the local climbing gym handing out flyers. ___36___ They break up the age groups into 6—8 and 9—12 and there’s also no gender separation in rock climbing. So I knew that my two youngest could do it together with no trouble.
The kids were super excited when I first brought up the idea. My husband also pointed out that climbing was definitely a good sport. The first few weeks I stayed close just to see how they were going to treat the kids and how much fun everyone was having. ___37___
The first session filled me with delight. They spent a lot of time talking about safety, how to use the ropes and how to stretch properly, and all that made me interested in. ___38___ Every child got a chance to go up with the instructors showing the one-on-one instructions but it took so long for each kid to go up. I was worried my kids were going to nod off before it was their turn.
___39___ As soon as they started climbing on the huge wooden walls with plastic holds, the kids were unstoppable. Once they got the hang of it they were practically flying up the wall. The instructors were very good with kids, too.
All in all I have to say that signing my kids up for rock climbing was a resounding success. ___40___ It’s great for staying healthy and my kids tell me that it’s a ton of fun.
A.My kids were unwilling to take up the challenge.
B.The kids, though, looked a little bored as time went on.
C.So I know that the lessons have stuck with any other moms.
D.Fortunately, however, things picked up pretty quickly after that.
E.Then I was convinced that generally I’d made a good decision.
F.One thing in particular that caught my eye was their kid’s program.
G.I’d recommend it to other moms who also like to get kids into the game.
【解析】上文说“It was at the farmer’s market that I saw a group from the local climbing gym handing out flyers.(就是在农贸市场,我看到当地攀岩馆的一群人在发传单)”,这位母亲看到了攀岩馆的人在发传单,后文“They break up the age groups into 6—8 and 9—12 and there’s also no gender separation in rock climbing.(他们把攀岩的年龄组分为6-8岁和9-12岁,攀岩也没有性别区分)”介绍了里面有儿童项目,因此可推断是儿童项目的内容吸引了这位母亲。
【解析】根据前文“The first few weeks I stayed close just to see how they were going to treat the kids and how much fun everyone was having.(刚开始的几个星期,我和他们待得很近,只是想看看他们会如何对待孩子们,以及每个人都玩得有多开心)”可知,刚开始的时候母亲看到孩子们都很开心。
【解析】根据上文“They spent a lot of time talking about safety, how to use the ropes and how to stretch properly, and all that made me interested in.(他们花了很多时间讨论安全问题,如何使用绳子,如何正确拉伸,所有这些都让我感兴趣)”可知,作者对于攀岩前面讲解的内容是感兴趣的。再根据后文的“Every child got a chance to go up with the instructors showing the one-on-one instructions but it took so long for each kid to go up.I was worried my kids were going to nod off before it was their turn.(每个孩子都有机会在教练一对一的指导下上去,但每个孩子都花了很长时间。我担心我的孩子们还没轮到他们就睡着了)”可知,这里孩子们应该对讲解不感兴趣,感到无聊,和母亲的态度形成对比。B项“然而,随着时间的推移,孩子们看起来有点无聊”上下文为对比关系,故选B项。
39.【答案】D
【解析】根据前文“I was worried my kids were going to nod off before it was their turn.(我担心我的孩子们还没轮到他们就睡着了)”可知,孩子们对讲解是感到无聊的,根据后文“As soon as they started climbing on the huge wooden walls with plastic holds, the kids were unstoppable.(一旦他们开始爬上带有塑料支架的巨大木墙,孩子们就势不可挡)”可知,事实上孩子们对于攀岩实践很感兴趣,故这里是一个转折。
【解析】根据前文“All in all I have to say that signing my kids up for rock climbing was a resounding success.(总而言之,我不得不说,为我的孩子报名攀岩是一个巨大的成功)”可知,作者对于自己做的让孩子们去攀岩的决定是感到满意的,根据后文“It’s great for staying healthy and my kids tell me that it’s a ton of fun.(它有助于保持健康,我的孩子们告诉我,它非常有趣)”可知,孩子们的反馈也很好。
