Top Chinese Restaurants in the Greater Seattle Area
Xi’an Noodles
Biang biang noodles take their name from the satisfying sound you hear when chefs slap dough (面团) on the counter. The impact creates the specialty noodles of the northwest Chinese city of Xi’an. These chewy, hand-ripped noodles center in most dishes on the menu. Order them as a soup,or as a bowl tossed with spicy cumin (孜然) lamb or just some chili hot oil.
Friendship BBQ
The Northeastern-Chinese-style grilled baroque restaurant is actually the Seattle branch of a New York-based chain. Meats and seafood come coated in a cumin-forward seasoning with your choice of spice level. Don’t miss the side dishes, including the garlic eggplant, which is roasted until the flesh is covered with a garlic sauce. Despite its authentic taste, you’ll constantly be wowed by its cool new recipes. That’s probably what sets it apart in the Chinese food scene.
Dumpling Generation
As the name implies, baskets of steamed dumplings are the move here. The wrappers are hand-rolled—not too thin or thick—and the fillings are savory and juicy. Ifyou prefer a strong taste, get the dumplings that include Chinese chives (韭菜), which have large, flat leaves that aren’t afraid to announce their presence.
Imperial Garden
The dim sum menu contains all the favorites and any extras make great takeaway. But Imperial Garden’s star remains the Peking Roast Duck—shaved pieces of meat topped with long narrow pieces of shiny duck skin, served with steamed pancakes. While the restaurant uses white tablecloths and is spacious enough to accommodate large banquets, the vibe (氛围) isn’t formal.
21. What do Dumpling Generation and Xi’an Noodles have in common
A. Steamed foods. B. Handmade dishes.
C. Plain tastes. D. Northwestern origin.
22. If you plan to organize a grand family gathering, which is the most suitable place
A. Imperial Garden. B. Dumpling Generation.
C. Friendship BBQ. D. Xi’an Noodles.
23.How is Friendship BBQ different from other Chinese restaurants
A. It’s not locally owned. B.It has casual atmosphere .
C. It features roasted dishes. D. It has innovative spirit.
B
I live in Xizhou in Yunnan Province, on the historic Tea Horse Road. I have to admit that when I first heard that Paul Salopek was going to walk the entire globe on his own two feet, I was blown away. I couldn’t imagine that there could be such an unusual person in the world.
Last May, I met Paul. He told me that it was his first time in China. He talked to me with great excitement about the history, migrations, and discoveries in my region of China. He spoke of the Shu-Yandu Dao (the Southern Silk Road), the travels of the 17th-century Chinese explorer Xu Xiake, the Tea Horse Road and the early 20th-century American botanist Joseph Rock. He also talked of Xuanzang. Paul considered many of them heroes and in a sense Chinese pioneers of slow journalism.
I decided to accompany Paul on his walk toward Yunnan. On September 28, 2021, we set out. Our days were simple: walk, eat, sleep, and repeat. We woke up at sunrise, set off in high spirits, and rested at sunset, dragging ourselves into exhausted sleep.
We met many people on the road. Some were curious, surrounding us and watching us; some gave us directions; some invited us into their home to take a rest; some spoke of the charm of their hometown. We met many beautiful souls, simple souls and warm souls. We were walking with our minds.
Together, we were impressed by the biodiversity of the Gaoligong Mountains. As I walked on ancient paths through mountains, I seemed to hear the antique voices of past travelers urging me to be careful on the road.
Looking back on the more than 200 miles I walked with Paul, I came to a realization. Walking for its own sake, while healthy and admirable, is only a small part of the benefit of moving with our feet. A deeper reward is rediscovering the world around us, shortening the distance between each other, and sharing each other’s cultures.
24. How did the writer first respond to Paul’s travel plan
A. Puzzled. B. Scared. C. Surprised. D. Disappointed.
25. What can we learn about Paul Salopek from paragraph 2
A. He had a knowledge of China. B. He was a western journalist.
C. He came to China several times. D. He was Joseph Rock’s acquaintance.
26. What does paragraph 4 tell us about the writer and Paul
A. They built bonds with people. B. They satisfied the locals’ curiosity.
C. They set off in high spirits. D. They honored the ancestors.
27. What is the main purpose of the writer’s writing the text
A. To suggest a new way of travel. B. To advocate protection of biodiversity.
C. To share and reflect on a journey. D. To introduce and promote Chinese culture.
C
Some people say they “never forget a face.” But what does that saying mean Is there really no limit to the number of faces a person can remember A new study from a group of researchers at the University of York in England has found that, on average, people can remember as many as 5,000 faces. They published their findings on facial recognition this month in the Proceedings of The Royal Society B, Biological Sciences.
Rob Jenkins works in the psychology department at the University of York. He said the researchers’ study centered on “the number of faces people actually know”. The study suggests our facial recognition abilities help us to deal with the many different faces we see on the screens, as well as those we know, like family and friends.
For the human study, people spent one hour writing down as many faces from their personal lives as possible. Some examples may include people they went to school with, people they work with and family members. Then, they wrote down famous faces they know, such as actors, politicians and other public people.
The results showed that the participants(参与者) knew between 1,000 and 10,000 faces. Jenkins said one explanation may be that some people have a natural ability for remembering faces. “There are differences in how much attention people pay to faces and how well they process the information,” he said. Jenkins also said it could be because of different social environments. Some people may have grown up in more populated places. So, they may have had more social contact throughout their lives.
The people in the study included 25 men and women students from two universities. They were between 18 and 61 years old. Researchers think age may be an interesting area for further research. Jenkins said it is possible that we gather more faces throughout our lifetime. But, he added, there also may be an age at which we start to find it harder to remember all of those faces.
28. What was the new study mainly about
A. How long people can remember faces. B. When people will forget faces.
C. Why people can deal with different faces. D. How many faces people can know.
29. What do we know about the participants in the study
A. They are good at recognizing faces.
B. They remember more famous people.
C. They have different social backgrounds.
D. They try their best to avoid social contact.
30. What can we learn about the last paragraph
A. We are sure to gather more faces as we age.
B. The future research may focus more on age.
C. The participants in the study are in their youth.
D. It may be harder to remember faces of different ages.
31. What is the text
A. An interview. B. A research report.
C. A character story. D. A scientific novel.
D
Away from the bright lights of the city, if you look up at the night sky you will see an ocean of bright stars. But in the illuminated concrete jungles we humans have built ourselves, it’s a different story.
This year, Earth Hour was observed on March 26. The annual tradition, started by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, was created to raise awareness for climate change. Those celebrating turn off all their electrical appliances for one hour. It also draws attention to another serious problem that the world is currently facing — the threat of light pollution.
Light pollution happens when too much man-made light harms nature. Scientists have found that it is especially harmful to nocturnal animals. These creatures rely on the natural light cycle provided by the movement of the sun to help coordinate their sleep cycles. When this is disturbed by constant bright lights from man-made structures, it can seriously disorientate the animals and harm their physical health. “Wildlife species have evolved on this planet with biological rhythms — changing that has profound effects,” said Travis Longcore, a biogeographer with the Urban Wildlands Group in Los Angeles, US. A lack of darkness at night can also cause difficulties for animals in other ways.
Newly hatched (孵化) baby sea turtles rely on the brighter horizon over the ocean to guide them from the beach to the sea. However, with artificial lights next to the oceans, the small animals are easily led away from the right path. “Hatchlings are attracted to lights and crawl inland, or crawl aimlessly down the beach, sometimes until dawn, when predators or birds get them,” said Michael Salmon, a biologist at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.
Artificial light has caused a “drastic change” to the natural environment of animals, research scientist Christopher Kyba told the International Dark-Sky Association. “Predators use light to hunt, and prey (猎物) species use darkness as cover,” Kyba explained. If a predator has such an extra advantage in hunting its prey, this can lead to an imbalance in the ecosystem as the hunted species are no longer able to maintain their population when they become over-hunted.
32. Why was Earth Hour created
A. To raise awareness of air pollution.
B. To call on people to get closer to nature.
C. To draw public attention to environmental issues.
D. To reconsider the necessity of electrical devices.
33. How does light pollution affect nocturnal animals
A. It slows their growth.
B. It changes their sleep cycles.
C. It lessens their dependence on the sun.
D. It reduces their difficulties caused by darkness.
34. What trouble does artificial lighting cause baby sea turtles
A. It can prevent them from reaching the ocean.
B. It can affect their biological rhythms.
C. It makes them lose their way to the beach.
D. It exposes them to predators in the sea.
35. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. The argument over artificial lights.
B. Animals that benefit from artificial lights.
C. The impact of artificial lights on environment.
D. The dangers of an imbalance in the ecosystem.

Dogs do not see the world in the same way that we do. They rely on their body language for communication. Read on to see the ways they SHOW their feelings and emotions through their actions and behaviors!
How They Bark
There are several reasons dogs bark. If it is loud and frequent, it might be something urgent. Perhaps they sense danger and want to let you know. 36 Loud barking can also mean that they are in pain. Make sure to pay attention to figure it out!
On Your Feet
37 It might be a little annoying, but your dogs mean well! This is their way to show their love and loyalty. They only want to be as close to you as possible. It is behavior that they got from their ancestors when they used to run as a pack.
Eye Movement
In certain ways, dogs are like humans. 38 They look at the ground when they feel tired or sad. Meanwhile, they open their eyes wide and look around when they are excited. A raised eyebrow might mean confusion. Make sure to take these all into account!
Barking At Nothing
Sometimes when our dogs are looking out the window and start barking, we notice there is nothing actually there for the dog to bark at, so why are they barking 39 Your house is their house, too, and they want any and all intruders (侵入者) to know that they are there.
40
If your dog refuses to eat when another dog or human is in the room with them, it is not because of any other reason except for the fact that they do not want to share their food with you. While humans likely don’t think about this because we don’t eat dog food, dogs don’t understand that!
A. Only Eating Alone
B. Using Their Tails
C. They tend to show emotions with their eyes as well.
D. Shorter and softer barks, meanwhile, mean that they want to play.
E. They could be doing this because they are protecting your house.
F. Dogs like to lie on your feet when you are eating dinner or watching TV.
G. They have been waiting for you to come back, and they cannot control their excitement.

第二节 续写 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My name is Daniel. I was the new boy in the class. My father had been offered a better job in London, and our whole family had to move here. I was twelve and, having lost all my old friends, I felt shy and lonely at my new school. There were 33 students in my new class, and most people weren’t very interested in a shy new boy. Roy was one of the few people who were kind to me. He often invited me to join his particular group, and as a result, I started getting to know people. Roy and I became good friends. We trusted each other and we could talk about personal matters, things that were important to us.
Five years later, Roy and I are still in the same class. But just under a year ago, Roy’s father was knocked over by a car. He died a few days later. The family had to move to a much smaller house in order to manage financially. Roy, who had always been very close to his father, changed completely, becoming silent and moody. He had always been a clever, hard-working student but now he seemed to lose all interest in his work. I couldn’t stand seeing him like this, but I never got a chance to ask him. He just disappeared after school, returning in the morning looking tired. From time to time, he even fell asleep at his desk. Ms. Jones, our head teacher was worried about him as well. I decided to find out what was going on.
So, one day, having finished classes, I quickly put my books in my locker and grabbed my coat from the cloakroom (衣帽间). Roy was already on his way. I followed him. He moved fast along the towns streets. Having arrived at a small restaurant, he stopped. He turned around, looking sad and ashamed. Then he quickly swung the door open and ducked inside. I waited for a few moments, thinking what Roy was doing here.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)开头已给出。
Then I went in and saw him in a waiter’s uniform.

六、读后续写
Then I went in and saw him in a waiter’s uniform. He was busy clearing a table. The moment he glanced at me, his cheeks flushed red with tears swimming in his eyes. He lowered his head and struggled to hide his embarrassment. “You are in financial difficulty, aren’t you ” I asked. Roy nodded in agreement and let out his secret -- he had to take on several part-time jobs after school so as to pay the heavy debt. “Will you keep it secret from others ” He begged. “Of course, I will.” I promised immediately but felt uneasy at the bottom of my heart.
I didn’t want to break my promise but I needed help from an adult. Finally, an idea occurred to me and I was determined to tell Ms. Jones about Roy’s situation. At my words, her jaw nearly dropped. “It’s really incredible! I need to give him a hand.” Before long, she secretly arranged a job for him at the school library, where he was paid a larger amount and had time to study. Roy doesn’t know that I told our teacher or that she helped. And I will never tell him. I’m just glad that my friend is happy again.

So, as this office’s general manager, I’d like to congratulate you all first.

I still remember the extra vacation days we got last year. But by the end of today, everyone will receive a significant holiday bonus. (19) It will be twice as much as last year. But more than the money, (19) my greatest honor was watching everyone work well together as a team. (20)
