学科核心素养说课稿
Write A Travel Plan
Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning. I’m contestant NO.4. It’s my great privilege to be here sharing my teaching design on B1U2 Travelling Around, reading for writing part: write to a friend about a travel plan. And it can be divided into the following aspects.
The first one is about the unit plan. I read through the whole unit many times and I have analyzed the main discourses based on their type, content and the theme. After that, I divided the whole unit into three small parts, namely, preparation before travel, achievement during travel and inspiration after travel. Besides, teaching objectives for the whole unit and each lesson can be concluded as follows. And today’s lesson is about reading for writing.
The second part is about theoretical basis. Having referred to these two books, I tried to design the whole lesson based on cognitive process of deep learning and the activity-based approach to English learning. And in our school we normally design a reading for writing lesson by following this teaching paradigm.
The third part is about analysis of text and students. As for the teaching material, it’s an email and the thematic context is human and self as well as human and nature. Its topic is about travel plan. As for the students, they’re in Grade One. They have learned future tense and may feel easy to apply. They have basic knowledge of deep-learning methods and are relatively interested in the topic of travel plan. On the other hand, however, they lack the ability to think independently and creatively and they have problems working out the outline of a travel plan and sorting out language for expressing emotion.
So based on the information above, we can settle the teaching objectives for this lesson as follows. By the end of the class, students will be able to sort out information about a travel plan by reading the email, and identify and summarize the outline of a travel plan and the specific language for expressing emotion. The most importantly, they’ll be able to write an email talking about their travel plan by imitating its organization and language feature.
The next part is about the teaching methods. One is flipped teaching method, which means students will be required to search for information about Terracotta Army first and share them during the class. The other is communicative teaching method, by which students and teachers will together analyze the text, collect information and gain inspiration about the ultimate goal.
Now let’s come to the most important part, the teaching procedures. It can be stated as follows. Two questions will first be presented to lead the topic and activate students’ prior knowledge. Then students will listen and read the travel brochure about Terracotta Army and talk about what amazes them most. By discussion, students may get answers like these and during the process they can initially perceive the language expressing emotions.
It’s such a wonderful place of interest that most foreigners would like to pay a visit to, including Richard, so he writes an email to show his travel plan. Now students will be guided to read the email to his friend and figure out what aspects are mentioned in the travel plan, namely when to go/ arrive, whom to go with, where to go, what to do and so on.
With so many kinds of information, how does Richard organize them in a logic way So next, students will read the email again and summarize it in the table. During this process, students are trained to analyze the structure of the email.
Till now, students have a clear idea about what to write and how to organize an email of a travel plan. Then they’ll be guided to read the email and underline the words and phrases to express emotion. If necessary, the teacher can add more to help them accumulate language expressing emotion.
It’s time to make a summary about how to write an email about a travel plan by showing them different mind maps, after which students will be required to write an email to introduce their travel plan. Tips will be given to them according to what they’ve learned. During this process, they actually apply what they’ve learned into practice, namely, what aspects to cover, how to organize the email and how to express emotion in an email.
When time’s up, students will be guided to revise their email and evaluate others’ according to the check list which aims to improve their writing and learn from others.
Then it is about assignment. To stimulate students’ interest and enable those of different levels to gain something from their study, I have designed the homework in layers like this.
The last part is about my reflection.
Thank you for your listening, ladies and gentlemen.
