In Europe, many people make friends between their countries through town twinning. Town or city twinning means two towns in different countries agree and decide to become “twins” with a sister city relationship.
The people find pen friends in the twin town. They exchange newspapers and stamps. The school teachers discuss teaching methods with the teachers in the twin town. Officials visit the twin town for celebrations. Ordinary people travel to the twin town, too, but not very often if it is far away.
Sometimes, schools even exchange their classes for two or three weeks! For example, German middle school students study for a while at the school in their twin town in Britain, staying with British families. A few months later, their British friends come to study in Germany.
Many British towns are so pleased with the results of the twinning that they set out to find more than one twin town! Tonbridge, a small town, for example, has twin towns in both Germany and France.

第二节(满分25分)

Be kind to others. I realize this is simple and very basic. However, it is necessary and it does make a difference.I often have people who cross my daily path to whom I can show kindness. It is often just a smile. A smile often says, “I see you. You aren’t invisible to me. You are important.” People need someone to care about them.
I read a story many years ago about a man who had decided to end his life. He’d lost a fortune, his job, his family and nearly everything he owned. He went to a local pawn shop to buy a gun. He planned to take the gun back to his apartment in New York City, and kill himself.
As he was getting on the elevator (电梯), a little old lady was slowly getting on too. She had a small cart (手推车) she was pulling behind her and was having a little trouble getting it into the elevator. He said that he was actually a bit angry because he wanted to hurry up, get to his apartment and end his own life. He reached out to the old lady’s cart and forced it as it had become stuck. He got it free easily and she got on the elevator.
After the door closed, she looked up at him with a big smile and said, “If we had more young men like you in this world, the world would be a better place. You are so kind to help. Such a sweet young man!”
Of course, it change d his thought of going back to kill himself. He wanted to go around and find people that he could help and people who were struggling even with something that was as small as the little old lady’s cart.

Dear Cynthia,
How is everything going I hear that you are trying to lose weight by dieting. I think dieting excessively is not a healthy way to lose weight. It may cause harm to your body and even lead to eating disorders.
In my opinion, you could try taking up new forms of exercise that are fun and refreshing, such as swimming or dancing. And instead of drastically reducing your food intake, you could opt for healthy food choices such as fruits, vegetables, and lean protein.
I hope these suggestions can help you achieve a healthier and happier lifestyle.
Yours,
Li Hua
