event的基本意思是“事件”,可指历史上的、国际的、国家的或社会的重大事件,也可指日常的小事件。event是可数名词,其复数形式events有时还可指“事态的发展”“时局”。还可作体育运动的“比赛项目”,是可数名词。

realize与come to know意思相近,意为“ 意识到;了解到 ”,是及物动词,其后可接名词,也可接宾语从句。realize与come true意思相近,意为“实现”。

【辨析】get, arrive 和reach
1. arrive 意为“到达”,是不及物动词,后接地点名词时要加上in(大地方)或at(小地方)。在句子中,arrive at/ in可与get to 互换。例如:
(1)When did Mr.Black arrive in/get to Beijing
布莱克先生是什么时候到达北京的
(2)At about 8:30 a.m.we arrived at/got to the railway station.
大概早上8点左右,我们到了车站。
