In the sport of track and field, athletes compete not only with one another but against themselves, and in each race they try to achieve the new personal best.
For one Nebraska teen running in what would likely to be his final cross-country outing before graduating from high school, his personal best turned out not to be marking the fastest time but displaying the biggest heart.
Although it was a long shot when he came out from the starting position last Thursday, Brandon Schutt from Bellevue East High School knew if his time was good enough that day, he still had the potential to qualify for the upcoming state meet. A mile into the 3.1-mile race, however, Schutt realized he wasn’t going to be able to keep up the necessary momentum (势头). Rather than risking injury, he slowed to a comfortable pace that would allow him to simply get pleasure from the moment and the day.
Meanwhile, Blake Cerveny from Omaha Burke High School was running a very different kind of race. Aiming to beat his own personal record, after a fast start, he continued to push himself hard.
With less than 400 meters to go, Cerveny’s legs cramped up (抽筋), but he didn’t give up. Cerveny rose from the ground and continued on, only to fall again after another 150 meters and again…About 100 meters away from the finish line, he lay curled on the ground. His legs had simply given out.
Before Cerveny’s dad could reach his son, Brandon Schutt was at his side to offer a helping hand. The two completed the final meters of the course. Schutt even made sure the injured runner crossed the finish line first, securing his opponent a faster time.
In today’s competitive world, while the emphasis in athletics is so often on breaking records, it is inspiring to see an athlete like Brandon Schutt.
4. What does the underlined phrase “a long shot” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Simple to compete. B. Unlikely to succeed.
C. Exciting to be qualified. D. Surprising to break records.
5. Why did Brandon Schutt slow down after a mile
A. To enjoy the competition. B. To help Blake Cerveny.
C. To have a final push. D. To examine his wounds.
6. What can we learn about Blake Cerveny in the race
A. He didn’t cross the finish line. B. He was generous to help others.
C. He was affected by his physical disability. D. He was a person of determination.
7. What is the best title of the passage
A. The Importance of Perseverance B. The Love for Sports
C. The Value of True Sportsmanship D. The Sport of Track and Field
B 5. A 6. D 7. C
根据第二段中“his personal best turned out not to be marking the fastest time(他的个人最好成绩不是最快的成绩)”和划线部分下文“Brandon Schutt from Bellevue East High School knew if his time was good enough that day, he still had the potential to qualify for the upcoming state meet.(上周四,来自Bellevue East高中的Brandon Schutt知道,如果那天他的表现足够好,他仍然有可能获得即将到来的州际锦标赛的资格)”可知,Brandon Schutt的成绩不是最快的,他认为如果自己表现好,依然有可能获得州际锦标赛的资格,Although引导的让步状语从句和主句内容有转折、让步关系,故推测此处指“虽然他从首发位置上出来时不太可能成功”,故it was a long shot意为“不可能成功”,故选B。
根据第三段中“Rather than risking injury, he slowed to a comfortable pace that would allow him to simply get pleasure from the moment and the day.(与其冒着受伤的风险,他放慢了节奏,让自己从当下和每一天中得到快乐)”可知,Brandon Schutt在一英里后放慢速度是为了享受比赛,故选A。
根据第五段“With less than 400 meters to go, Cerveny’s legs cramped up (抽筋), but he didn’t give up. Cerveny rose from the ground and continued on, only to fall again after another 150 meters and again…About 100 meters away from the finish line, he lay curled on the ground. His legs had simply given out.(在距离终点不到400米的时候,Cerveny的腿抽筋了,但他没有放弃。Cerveny从地上站起来,继续跑,但又跑了150米,又一次摔倒……离终点线大约100米的地方,他蜷缩在地上。他的腿完全没有力气了)”可知,Blake Cerveny在腿抽筋后没有放弃,摔倒了也坚持跑,故他是一个有坚定决心的人,故选D。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合最后一段“In today’s competitive world, while the emphasis in athletics is so often on breaking records, it is inspiring to see an athlete like Brandon Schutt.(在当今竞争激烈的世界里,虽然体育运动的重点经常是打破记录,但看到像Brandon Schutt这样的运动员还是令人鼓舞的)”可知,文章主要讲述了在高中毕业前的一场内布拉斯加州青少年越野跑中,Brandon Schutt的个人成绩虽然不是最好的,但他帮助受伤的竞争对手Blake Cerveny冲向终点的行为展示了真正的体育精神。

Travel allows us to experience the world. But as we travel, we are also leaving our footprint on every place we visit. This is why culturally immersive (沉浸) travel is so important. Because the wrong kind of travel negatively affects the world. One of the reasons we started this blog was to help others travel better and feel comfortable getting off the beaten path, interacting with locals, and take you “Beyond the traditional Bucketlist”, if you will.
People who only get 2-weeks off per year are often just looking for an easy destination with a beach to relax on. This isn’t travel. This is a vacation. But “Immersive Travel” or “Cultural Travel” is an entirely new type of trip. It is about experiencing and preserving the various traditions around the world. It’s about being open to new experiences and willing to step into another’s shoes. Cultural travel is jumping in with both feet and leaving your idea about what your trip should be behind you. It’s eating local dishes and sleeping in guesthouses. It’s building genuine connections with locals. It’s learning about the history of a country and leaving your trip with a greater understanding of the place you came to see and the people who live there.
Often times in today’s age, “travelers” will visit a country just to snap some photos of the famous sights to post on Instagram or to drink the night away, or even just to relax on a tropical beach. But that kind of vacation can be harmful to the very communities you’re traveling to.
Beyond supporting the local communities and the preservation of local customs and traditions, you’ll also experience some personal benefits through cultural travels. There’s simply no way to travel this way with a closed mind. You’ll get to know different cultures intimately and understand them a lot better. You’ll also become less judgmental of others the more you travel.
8. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph
A. To stress the negative influence of travel.
B. To describe the importance of cultural travel.
C. To recommend a totally different type of travel.
D. To convey his unique feelings about cultural travel.
9. According to the author, today's travelers tend to_________.
A. establish close connections with the locals during the travel
B. choose a tourist attraction for adventure and exploration
C. show more interest in the history of a travel destination
D. post the photos taken in the journey on the social media
10. What can be inferred about the culturally immersive travel
A. It is focused on studying local people's lifestyle.
B. Its travelers should be open-minded and understanding.
C. It is a specific way to make judgments of other cultures.
D. Its major concern is preserving local traditions and customs.
11. Where is the text probably taken from
A. A travel brochure. B. A blog post.
C. A historic magazine. D. An encyclopedia website.
C 9. D 10. B 11. B

根据第一段“Travel allows us to experience the world. But as we travel, we are also leaving our footprint on every place we visit. This is why culturally immersive travel is so important. Because the wrong kind of travel negatively affects the world.”(旅行让我们体验世界。
根据第三段“Often times in today’s age, “travelers” will visit a country just to snap some photos of the famous sights to post on Instagram or to drink the night away, or even just to relax on a tropical beach.”(在今天这个时代,很多时候,“旅行者”去一个国家,只是为了拍下一些著名景点的照片,并发布到Instagram上,或者通宵喝酒,甚至只是为了在热带海滩上放松一下。)
根据第二段“It’s about being open to new experiences and willing to step into another’s shoes”(这意味着你要对新体验持开放态度,愿意换位思考。)
根据第一段中“One of the reasons we started this blog was to help others travel better and feel comfortable getting off the beaten path, interacting with locals, and take you “Beyond the traditional Bucketlist”, if you will.”(我们开设这个博客的原因之一,是为了帮助其他人更好地旅行,让他们远离老路,与当地人交流,并带你“超越传统的遗愿清单”,如果你愿意的话。)

Skeleton is one of the three sliding sports at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, alongside the luge(单雪橇)and bobsleigh(大雪橇). With only six medals up for grabs, skeleton has the fewest events at the Winter Games—which means competition will be fierce.
The sport of skeleton has its roots in the most popular winter pastime: sleighing. In the mid-19th century, British and American holidaymakers built the first toboggan(平底雪橇)run in Davos in 1882, and thus the sport of sleighing began.
Two years later in 1884, the famed Cresta Run—a natural ice skeleton racing toboggan track—was built in St. Moritz, Switzerland(the course has hosted the annual Grand National championships since 1885).
In 1892, a new sledge made entirely of steel was introduced, and some claim that its bony appearance gave the sledge and the sport the name ‘skeleton’.
Men’s skeleton was first introduced on the Olympic program in the 1928 Games in St. Moritz. But due to the sport only being available at the Cresta Run at the time, it fell into obscurity(默默无闻)while the luge and bobsleigh grew in popularity. However, in 2002, the skeleton was reintroduced as a men’s and women’s event at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, and has remained a part of the Olympic program ever since.
While Great Britain has the most medals(nine)in skeleton competition at the Olympics, the top spot belongs to the United States(eight medals)by virtue of having four silvers to Great Britain’s one(both nations have three golds, while Britain has five bronze medals, and the United States one).
Great Britain is the only nation to have won a medal every time skeleton has featured at the Olympic Games, and has won at least one medal in each of the five contests of women’s skeleton since its introduction.
12. How many events does skeleton have in the Olympics
A. Two. B. Three. C. Five. D. Six.
13. When did skeleton first appear
A. In 1882. B. In1885. C. In1892. D. In 1928.
14. Why did skeleton fall into obscurity
A. Because its material steel was rare.
B. Because there was only one run for it.
C. Because only men could take part in it.
D. Because it was not on the Olympic program.
15. What makes America top Great Britain in skeleton at the Olympics
A. The number of medals. B. The composition of medals.
C. The virtue of the athletes. D. The times of hosting the Olympics.
A 13. C 14. B 15. B
根据第五段最后一句“However, in 2002, the skeleton was reintroduced as a men’s and women’s event at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, and has remained a part of the Olympic program ever since.(然而,在2002年的盐湖城冬奥会上,雪橇被重新列为男子和女子比赛项目,此后一直是奥运会项目的一部分)”可知,奥林匹克运动会上雪橇分为两种项目:男子和女子,因此雪橇在奥运会上有两种项目,故选A项。
根据第四段“In 1892, a new sledge made entirely of steel was introduced, and some claim that its bony appearance gave the sledge and the sport the name ‘skeleton’.(1892年,一种完全由钢铁制成的新雪橇被引进,一些人声称,它瘦骨嶙峋的外形使雪橇和这项运动被称为“skeleton(钢架雪车)”)”可知,skeleton(钢架雪车)在1892年正式出现。
根据第五段第二句“But due to the sport only being available at the Cresta Run at the time, it fell into obscurity(默默无闻)while the luge and bobsleigh grew in popularity. (但由于这项运动当时只能在Cresta Run(俯卧雪橇跑道)上进行,因此在单雪橇和大雪橇越来越受欢迎的同时,这项运动也逐渐淡出人们的视线)”可知,因为skeleton(钢架雪车)只有一种雪道可以使用,因此逐渐受到了冷落。故选B项。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“While Great Britain has the most medals(nine)in skeleton competition at the Olympics, the top spot belongs to the United States(eight medals)by virtue of having four silvers to Great Britain’s one(both nations have three golds, while Britain has five bronze medals, and the United States one).(虽然英国在奥运会的skeleton比赛中获得的奖牌数最多(9枚),但第一名是美国(8枚),因为美国有4枚银牌,而英国有1枚(两个国家都有3枚金牌,英国有5枚铜牌,美国有1枚))”可知,美国以3金4银1铜的奖牌构成,排在英国3金1银5铜之前。故选B项。

That’s all. Thank you for your listening.
Dear friends,
Nowadays, a great many holiday makers go out for sightseeing and relaxation. While they are enjoying themselves, some of them behave rudely, which causes a big concern. So today I am honored to stand here on behalf of the Students’ Union to advocate civilized traveling.
In my opinion, it is necessary to watch our manners. First, we must respect and follow local customs. Besides, we’d better not talk loudly in public places to avoid disturbance to others. Also, be aware that queue jumping is unacceptable in many countries. More importantly, if we travel abroad, we should bear in mind that we are representing our country, so we need to be cautious about how we act.
Only in this way can we enjoy our trips and have beautiful memories as well. To sum up, I sincerely hope all of you take an active part in the activity.

It started when I was in high school. Growing up in the small town, I had a dream: to work in television. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone for I wanted to work in television—except my parents. To me, it sounded like a dream that could never come true.
Thankfully, my parents are on my side, especially my dad, often said, “You can do anything you want to do.” My dad believed in total equality, and he was particularly supportive of the girls in the family. He was my steady rock—always there for me.
Luckily, Global Television had just started broadcasting in Canada that year. I thought to myself: I’m new and they’re new. I don’t know a soul there, so if I’m going to get to know one person at Global, it might as well be the president. I found out who the president was and decided to call him. What could I lose I was scared, but I knew deep down inside that this was what I wanted. When I called my dad and told him my plan, he said, “Good, Faye. That’s exactly what you should do.”
With my heart just about pounding out of my body, I called up the president of Global Television, spoke to his secretary and asked if I could speak to Mr. Brown. She said sure! Suddenly Mr. Brown was on the phone, and he accepted my asking to visit their studio. At 11 o'clock on the appointed day, I arrived at the studio. Mr. Brown took me around and introduced me to everybody. I had picked eleven o'clock on purpose, because I thought Mr. Brown might invite me to lunch. Sure enough, after the tour he said, “Are you free for lunch ” Of course, I accepted.
We went to lunch at The Inn on the Park. When we sat down, he looked at me and said, “What do you want ” He sounded a little angry and frustrated—but very curious.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
“All I want is a chance,” I said. “I just want you to know my face, so that when my resume comes in you can put a face to it. That’s all I’m asking.” I didn’t know whether I’d ever hear from him again, but three months later, his secretary called. “Mr. Brown wants to know if you’d like to come and audition (试镜) for a new game show,” she said. And I answered, “Sure I’ll come!” The next day, I went to our appointed place, and devoted myself to the new game show.
Paragraph 2:
Everything went beautifully. I had the job! In the next first show, I was nervous. What if I make a mistake When I began to walk out on stage, I replaced the negative thoughts with positive ones: This is going to be the best show ever, I told myself. You are going to just shine! My positive thinking worked. It was a good show. During that first show, I thought of my parents at home watching, and said to myself, “Look at me now, Dad!” From that day, everything happened for me. And everything came from finding the courage back in 1975 to make that one phone call.

C To have a final push.

Two years later, in 1884, the famed Cresta Run—a natural ice skeleton racing toboggan track—was built in St.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
“All I want is a chance,” I said.
