Yes, there couldn’t be a better opportunity,” I said to myself. “Why not seize it Why should I have always to be the guy regretting missing the opportunity just because of shyness ” Yes, maybe I should have a try.
So I raised my hand. And I remember that it took me quite a while to think what the song’s name was. Though I sang no more than five sentences because of forgetting the lyrics (歌词), their clapping hands told me that I did the job well. Later, I got a gift and I was really happy.

When you’re sitting in class or behind your desk waiting for the clock to strike a time when you can go home, it is natural that your mind should wander (走神) a bit. It is common for your mind to wander to a vacation and even travel around the world. What if there is a way that you can travel around the world without having to pay any money
A person that managed to make it around the world without spending much was Shantanu Starick. How did he trade off his service Starick realized that as a photographer he had a service that people would usually be willing to pay money for, but he would instead offer his photography service to anyone who could provide him with food, shelter (住处) and transportation. Starick has been traveling for a surprising 30 months and has visited countries ranging from the United States to Ecuador.
In English-speaking countries, trading off services and communicating aren’t difficult for Starick. However, in farther areas where there isn’t an English- speaking person in sight it can be quite difficult. More than anything, the locals appreciate (欣赏) the effort behind trying to speak their language, even if you don’t exactly sound like a native speaker.
You can do it too!
Honestly, with a bit of confidence, drive and a skill you can trade, you’ll be able to do exactly the same as Starick.
Start thinking about what you can do to get around the world without paying money. With our social networks and the connectivity our world has, you can easily connect with and market yourself to people across the world without any effort.

10. In the locals’ opinion, what is the key to travelers in non-English-speaking countries
A. The skills.
B. The confidence to succeed.
C. The bravery to travel.
D. The effort to speak the local language.
11. What do we know about Shantanu Starick

There’s more evidence that what’s good for your heart is good for your head. A new study shows that people who run, swim or do other moderate intensity (中等强度) exercise have brains that look, on average, 10 years younger than the brains of couch potatoes (成天看电视的人).
“Our study showed that for older people, getting moderate intensity exercise may be protective, helping them keep their brains work better,” said Dr. Clinton Wright of the University of Miami, who led the study. But it’s not necessarily easy. Walking, golf, bowling and yoga don’t count, and people need to start before they begin showing memory loss, Wright’s team reported in the journal Neurology.
The study of nearly 900 people who exercise regularly showed that 90 percent fell into the low-intensity group. These people are part of a larger group taking part in a bigger study called Northern Manhattan Study. They were asked how long and how often they exercised during the past two weeks. Five years later, they were tested for memory and thinking skills and got a brain MRI. Seven years after that, they took the memory and thinking tests again. The 10 percent who said they took part in moderate intensity exercise scored better on the tests. These included running, climbing, swimming, riding bicycles and so on.
“We found that those with moderate intensity activity had higher scores and slower decline than inactive people when comparing the results,” the study team wrote.
Many studies have shown that exercise may not prevent Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默病) but may delay it. The findings fit in with a study that found two years of exercising, eating healthier food and brain training can promote people’s memory function.
12. What can we learn from the study
A. Ten people scored best on the tests.
B. High-intensity exercise is better.
C Most people surveyed took low-intensity exercise.
D. Only 900 people took part in the bigger study.
13. How did the study team come to the conclusion
A. By using examples. B. By making a comparison.
C. By observing people exercise. D. By doing a brain MRI.
14. What do we know from the last paragraph
A. Exercise can put off the beginning of memory decline.
B. The findings fit in with the study of healthy food.
C. Exercise will definitely strengthen people’s memory.
D Alzheimer’s disease may be held back by moderate intensity exercise.
15. What’s the best title for the text
A. To Exercise or Not
B. How to Keep Healthy
C. Ways to Make Your Brain Work Better
D. Moderate Intensity Exercise Keeps Your Brain Younger
【答案】12. C 13. B 14. A 15. D

(10%的人说他们参加了中等强度的运动,在测试中得分更高)”可推知,这项研究是通过作对比来得出结论的。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Many studies have shown that exercise may not prevent Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默病) but may delay it. The findings fit in with a study that found two years of exercising, eating healthier food and brain training can promote people’s memory function. (许多研究表明,运动可能不能预防阿尔茨海默病,但可能会延缓它的发生。这一发现与一项研究相吻合,该研究发现,两年的锻炼、健康饮食和大脑训练可以促进人们的记忆功能)”可知,运动可以延缓记忆力衰退的开始。故选A。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“A new study shows that people who run, swim or do other moderate intensity (中等强度) exercise have brains that look, on average, 10 years younger than the brains of couch potatoes (成天看电视的人). (一项新的研究表明,跑步、游泳或做其他中等强度运动的人,他们的大脑看起来平均比成天看电视的人年轻10岁)”及下文内容可知,文章主要介绍了新的研究表明中等强度的运动可以使大脑保持年轻。由此可知,D. Moderate Intensity Exercise Keeps Your Brain Younger (中等强度的运动让你的大脑更年轻)适合作文章标题。故选D。

I am writing to ask for advice on some difficulties that we have met in our English study.
Since we entered senior high school, it has become difficult to remember so many English words. For fear of making mistakes, we don’t want to speak English in English class. What’s more, when reading English articles, we often meet some new words, which makes it hard for us to understand the articles. These difficulties worry us a lot.
I would appreciate it if you could offer us some suggestions about these problems. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school, when, on turning a comer, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let’s go and see!”
“No.” said Henry. “Let us go quietly home and not meddle with (插手) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents aw expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me.”
“You are a coward (懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he an, Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behavior, because he knew that they misunderstood him, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored (忽略) the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth (水深没顶). He struggled, and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him.

Paragraph 1:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying.

Paragraph 2:
Thus, Robert’s life was saved.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Just at the moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last time. Through his great efforts, and with much danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.
Thus, Robert’s life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed at having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behavior and asked for his forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was: never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.
【解析】

It was an oral English class and in front of us was standing our teacher Linda, who was a university student from the US. Somehow we came to the point whether any of us could sing an English pop in front of the class. You know, maybe three or more out of ten Chinese students are shy in class. As a result, there was silence in class for quite a while, which made everybody feel rather embarrassed, including the teacher.
I was a shy boy. However, just at that moment, a great idea struck me suddenly. “Seize the opportunity! Seize the opportunity!
I think that is one of the most unforgettable moments in my life. Through this experience, I’ve also got to know that we should believe that we can do the job well, no matter how difficult it seems for us. Just have a little more courage.
4. Where was the English teacher Linda from
A. Australia. B. America. C. Canada. D. England.
5. Why did the author raise his hand in class

C. People need courage to overcome difficulties. D. Being helpful can benefit oneself and others.
C

C. Most people surveyed took low-intensity exercise.
D. Only 900 people took part in the bigger study.
13. How did the study team come to the conclusion
A By using examples.
D. Alzheimer’s disease may be held back by moderate intensity exercise.
15. What’s the best title for the text
A. To Exercise or Not
B. How to Keep Healthy
C. Ways to Make Your Brain Work Better
D. Moderate Intensity Exercise Keeps Your Brain Younger
