- I (study) English since primary school. I used to get high marks in English, but now I (have) a lot of trouble my listening. I listen native English speakers talking in a video, I can catch only a few words. I can never quite get the main idea. Any advice
- (listen) to English radio programmes helps me get used to how fast native speakers talk. I also repeat what I hear to help myself (experience) the feeling of the language. Sometimes I even record my voice I can listen to (I) and compare my pronunciation the radio host’s! My biggest headache is how to be polite in English. It’s so much easier to just say “Open the window!”, in English that can sound (real) terrible. I have to think about who I’m talking to and then decide whether to say, “Open the window, please!” or “Could you open the window, please ” or even longer “Would you mind (open) the window, please ”
I think it all depends who you’re talking to. If I’m talking to close friend, I can use short requests, like “Open the window”—our relationship is close and we’re (equal), so I only need a few words to bridge the gap us. But if I’m talking to someone isn’t very close me, I must make my request longer—and I must make it question, not demand, e.g., “Could you open the window, please ” If I’m talking to someone senior me, then I should say, “Would you mind opening the window, please ” For (I), vocabulary is my biggest problem—there are just SO MANY new words! I can’t keep all the new vocabulary straight in my head, and I (certain) can’t remember how to use them all (proper). HELP!

Hi! My name is Adam and I’m a freshman at senior high school. (go) from junior high school
senior high school is a (real) big challenge. The first week was a little (confuse).
First, I had to think very (careful) about which courses I wanted to take. The school (advise) helped me choose the (suit) ones: maths, English, chemistry, world history, and Chinese. I know that Chinese is a very difficult language, but I hope to be fluent I graduate. My adviser recommended that I
(sign) up (advance) literature I like English and I’m good it.
I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I tried to join the school football team, but the coach told me that I didn’t play (good) enough. (obvious), I was (happy), but I won’t quit. I’ll find a way to improve my own so that I can make the team next year. I joined a volunteer club . Every Wednesday, we work at a soup kitchen and hand food to (home) people in the community.
I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to (be) responsible
a lot more. I’m a bit worried keeping up the other students in my advanced course, and it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework. Still, I’m happy to be here. (study) hard isn’t always fun, but I’ll be well (prepare) for university or whatever else (come) in the future.
