valuable 作形容词,意为“贵重的;宝贵的 ”。

drop by 意为 “顺便拜访;随便进入”。可以直接使用,也可以在by后面加表示地点的词。相当于come over to和drop in。drop in at sp.意为“顺便拜访某地”,drop in on sb.意为“顺便拜访某人”。即drop by sb. = drop in on sb. 顺便走访某人
drop by one’s home = drop in (at) +地点 拜访…
他下班回来,顺便到朋友家坐了坐。
He dropped by his friend’s house when he came back from work.
不要忘了顺便去拜访一下你的老师。

6.If someone invites you to meet him or her at noon, then you’re even 15 minutes late, your friend may get mad .

get mad (使)发怒,(使)生气。在这里,get是连系动词,接形容词,表示“变得”。如果要强调状态,则用be mad ,表示动作用get mad。mad形容词,意为“很生气的;疯的”。常用搭配:
①be mad at/with…意为“对……发怒”,相当于be angry with。②be mad about意为“对……着迷”。drive sb. mad“使某人发狂”。
她因为她的丈夫忘了她的生日而生气。

effort/'ef (r)t/ n.努力;尽力
make an effort为固定短语,其中effort作名词,意为“努力;尽力”。make an effort to do sth.意为“努力做某事”。
effort的常用短语还有:
spare no effort to do sth.意为“不遗余力做某事”。
我们会尽力准时完成这个工作。
We’ll make an effort to finish the work on time.
今天早上为了按时到校,她努力跑去学校。
She made an effort to run to school this morning so as to be on time.
8.I always leave the house early to avoid heavy traffic because I think it’s impolite to keep others waiting.
avoid / 'v d/ v. 避免;回避,后接名词,动名词作宾语。
e.g. Fortunately, he avoided an accident.幸运的是,他避开了一场事故。
巧记接动词 -ing 形式作宾语的动词及短语:
享受介意必完成 :(enjoy, mind, finish)
考虑建议盼望着: (consider, suggest/advise, look forward to)
避免错过继续练: (avoid, miss, keep/keep on, practise)
想要成功坚持忙: (feel like, succeed in, stick to, be busy)
习惯放弃有困难: (be used to, give up, have difficulty/ trouble in)
keep sb. doing sth. 使某人一直做某事
e.g. My parents keep me doing my homework all day.父母整天让我做作业。

Dos

Japan
