【学习目标】Learning objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students are expected to
1. understand the general meaning of the article by some elements of it, such as who/where/when/why/what /how
2. analyse the relationship about the characters,understand the mood line/ time line.
3. improve the writing skills and the ability to express details.
4. develop the students’ critical thinking by dealing with questions.

Instruct students to write the writing by using the proper analysis methods.
2. Help students to make clear the mind of writing the continuation writing.

【教学活动设计】
教学环节 教学过程 意图
Activity 1: Lead in new lesson by a picture shows the pictures of some family showing the poor requirements but harmonious atmosphere. To arouse students’ interest and to introduce the topic of the passage.
Activity 2: Read whole passage and draw the key information. Set five minutes to read the whole passage, and focus on the two given sentences. Draw the key information: who; when; where; what; why; how. Lead in by questions.
Activity 3:Skim to study the organization of the given passage Analyse the timeline: ①One morning,the day before→②after their mother left the room→③for some moments→④when John had an idea Know the basic information from details.
Activity 4: Read for details. Get the outline. Lead students to draw the structure of the passage, and make clear the plots. Key words: Economic depression; out of work; poor community; stretch out hands to help them; popcorn; Analyse the plots.
Activity 5. Analyse the mood of characters. This article should be the emotion of“Empathy”, mainly happy. The first four paragraphs are Mrs. Meredith helps the poor in a warm, compassionate way; in paragraph five and six, the three children, John, Harry, and Clara, hear Bernard's story and feel empathy and want to help him but don't know how, the mood is low; the last two paragraphs are about John coming up with a great idea for Bernard that we can all help accomplish, and the kids get really excited. The final result of the follow-up should be Mrs. Meredith and the three children eventually succeeded in helping Bernard make money. Make students understand the main idea.
Activity 6. Make clear the plots. Lead students to learn about the story and the main events of a story. Ss match the events of this passage to have a clear picture of the plots. Get familiar with the plots.
Activity 7. Analyse the writing style Lead students to focus on the style of the passage, getting ready for writing. Focus on the details.
Activity 8. Pair work Lead students by questions: such as where can they get the popcorn machine How can they make it How and where can the sell it out Discuss the writing mind. Ask single group to show the results. Exchange the writing ideas.
Activity 9. Set up the writing direction Based on students’ ideas, teacher set the direction for writing. Make sure the direction for writing.
Activity 10. Practice writing in 8mins. What did you learn from this lesson Finish the aims.
Activity 11. Share the composition. Ask students to show the works and explain the details. Show the highlights of different works and assess the level.
Activity 12. Sum up. T: What did you learn from this lesson Lead students to reflect the objectives.
