An 82-year-old Chinese female pilot has set a record in the country’s airline industry after flying a small plane for 40 minutes in Beijing. Miao Xiaohong, one of China’s second team of female pilots, controlled the Tecnam P2010 plane to take off, turn, climb, dive and land safety at the Shifosi Airport in Pinggu District of Beijing.
In 1956, Miao Xiaohong, who graduated from a high school in Jinan, won a position in the second team. She graduated from the flight school in 1958. in the following years, she flew many important missions. In 1963, she undertook a mission to airdrop materials for the flood-stricken areas in Hebei Province. Poor visibility prevented her locating the target areas as the clouds were about 100 meters above the ground, but she managed to finish the task.
In 1989, she retired and started her writing career. When she collected material for her books, she found that many aged pilots in other countries still flew, and she had the idea of returning to the sky. To prepare for the flight, she walked 3,000 steps every day and moved her arms to meet the requirements for the high-altitude flight. Different from past flights for missions, this time her goal was to enjoy the flight. She said that it was exciting and fresh. “Seeing the boundless blue sky unfold in front of me, I feel it is very open,” she said.
The trainer said that Miao Xiaohong could finish the 30-hour flight to get a license for commercial flights. She said, “My physical condition is good enough to finish the 30-hour flight but it is not so important for me to get such a license. After achieving my dream of returning to the sky, I hope to encourage young women to join the airline industry. I’m 82 years old and I can fly again. You, the young people, can fly and will fly better than me.
4. What can we learn from the airdrop mission carried out by Miao Xiaohong
A. She was a very beautiful pilot. B. She had excellent flying skills.
C. She suffered from poor eyesight. D. She usually completed hard tasks.
5. What made Miao Xiaohong have the idea of flying a plane at the age of 82

6. Which of the following words can best describe Miao Xiaohong
A. Faithful. B. Energetic. C. Determined. D. Enthusiastic.
7. What could be the best title for the passage
A. Returning to the blue sky B. Coming to join in the flight
C. Managing to finish difficult tasks D. Improving yourself to set a record
B 5. D 6. C 7. A
根据文章第二段“In 1963, she undertook a mission to airdrop materials for the flood-stricken areas in Hebei Province. Poor visibility prevented her locating the target areas as the clouds were about 100 meters above the ground, but she managed to finish the task.(1963年,她承担了为河北省洪灾地区空投物资的任务。由于云层距离地面约100米,能见度很低,她无法定位目标区域,但她成功完成了任务。)”可知,尽管空投困难重重但她还是出色地完成任务。由此判断出她飞行技术一流。故选B项。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段“When she collected materials for her books, she found that many aged pilots in other countries still flew, and she had the idea to return to the sky.(当她为自己的书收集资料时,她发现其他国家许多上了年纪的飞行员还在飞行,于是她有了重返天空的想法。)”
根据第三段“To prepare for the flight, she walked 3 ,000 steps every day and moved her arms to meet the requirements for high-altitude flight during the past two months.(在过去的两个月里,为了准备这次飞行,她每天要走3000步,并活动双臂,以满足高空飞行的要求。)”以及前句提到的“she found that many aged pilots in other countries still flew, and she had the idea to return to the sky.(她发现其他国家许多上了年纪的飞行员还在飞行,于是她有了重返天空的想法。)”
根据文章第一段“An 82-year-old Chinese female pilot has set a record in the country's airline industry after flying a small plane for 40 minutes in Beijing. Miao Xiaohong, one of China's second batch of female pilots, controlled the Tecnam P2010 plane to take off, turn, climb, dive and land safely at the Shifosi Airport in Pinggu District of Beijing.(一位82岁的中国女飞行员在北京驾驶一架小型飞机40分钟后,创造了中国航空业的一项记录。中国第二批女飞行员苗晓红在北京平谷Shifosi机场控制了Tecnam P2010飞机的起飞、转弯、爬升、俯冲和安全降落。)”以及第三段“In 1989, she retired and started her writing career. When she collected materials for her books, she found that many aged pilots in other countries still flew, and she had the idea to return to the sky.(1989年,她退休了,开始了她的写作生涯。当她为自己的书收集资料时,她发现其他国家许多上了年纪的飞行员还在飞行,于是她有了重返天空的想法。)”可知,这篇文章主要叙述了一位挑战自我重新上天的退休女飞行员的故事。短文的最佳标题为“重返蓝天”。故选A项。

A new study shows that the household consumers (家庭消费者) are focusing more on reducing their energy costs by using technologically advanced home appliances. The lighting control held the largest share in the smart home market in 2016. The increase in the adoption (采用) rate of intelligent lighting controls by households worldwide has fuelled the growth of the smart home market. These have the ability to reduce electricity consumption because they adjust (调节) the artificial light according to the surroundings.
Four years ago, I was in a discussion about Nest Thermostat (恒温器), sharing my view that if a house is built properly, it doesn't need a smart thermostat. It probably wouldn't do much good there because with careful placement of high-quality windows, you seldom need to heat or cool it at all. Since then, other studies have shown that in a leaky old house, smart thermostats can be very effective and save energy.
But is smart lighting saving energy A smart lighting system might turn off or adjust the brightness of a bulb (灯泡), but an LED bulb already uses very little electricity, say 7 watts per bulb. But when you make it smart, it is always connected, consuming a bit of power to talk to the controller or bridge; one guy with a meter tested it at 0.4 watts per hour, or 9.6 watts in a day. It means that if you have a pile of smart bulbs and devices, you are consuming a fair bit of electricity.
Except for smart thermostats in leaky houses, none in the smart market saves energy. Asking Siri, voice control on any of Apple devices, to turn off the lights is fun, but we would be better off in terms of energy and exercise if we got up and reached for a light switch. Rather than saving energy, the smart home is wasting it.
8. What does the underlined word “fuelled” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Controlled.
B. Promoted.
C. Predicted.
D. Detected.
9. What does the author think of smart thermostats
A. They are well-designed.
B. They are energy-efficient.
C. They are not very useful.
D. They are not always automatic.
10. What does paragraph 3 mainly want to tell us
A. LED bulbs are very bright.
B. LED bulbs are of little value.
C. Smart lighting has developed quickly.
D. Smart lighting does little to save electricity.
11. What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph
A. To use Siri for fun.
B. To improve smart lighting.
C. To give up smart thermostats completely.
D. To turn to the traditional way of turning off lights.
B 9. C 10. D 11. D
根据画线单词上文“A new study shows that the household consumers (家庭消费者) are focusing more on reducing their energy costs by using technologically advanced home appliances. The lighting control held the largest share in the smart home market in 2016. (一项新的研究表明,家庭消费者更加关注通过使用技术先进的家用电器来降低他们的能源成本。2016年,照明控制在智能家居市场中占据了最大的份额。)”和画线单词所在句子“The increase in the adoption (采用) rate of intelligent lighting controls by households worldwide has fuelled the growth of the smart home market. (全世界家庭采用智能照明控制的比例增加,推动了智能家居市场的增长。)”可知,人们越来越多地使用智能家居设备,而智能光控设备在2016年就占有了最大的市场份额,由此可推断,智能光控设备使用率的上涨很有可能“促进了”智能家居市场的发展。所以画线单词fuelled意为“促进”,故选B。
2. 推理判断题。由第二段中的“It probably wouldn't do much good there because with careful placement of high quality windows, you seldom need to heat or cool it at all (它可能不会有太多的好处,因为仔细安置高质量的窗户,你很少需要加热或冷却它在所有。)”
由第三段中的“when you make it smart, it is always connected, consuming a bit of power to talk to the controller or bridge; one guy with a meter tested it at 0.4 watts per hour, or 9.6 watts in a day (当你使它智能化时,它总是连接在一起,与控制器或电桥通话需要消耗一点电力:一个拿着电表的人测试它的电量为每小时0.4瓦特,或者说一天9.6瓦特。)”
根据最后一段中的“Asking Siri, voice control on any of Apple devices, to turn off the lights is fun, but we would be better off in terms of energy and exercise if we got up and reached for a light switch. (要求Siri,任何苹果设备上的语音控制,关掉电灯是很有趣的,但是如果我们站起来伸手去拿电灯开关,我们在能量和运动方面会更好。)”可知,作者建议人们自己起身去关灯,而非依赖智能光控系统,一则省电,二则还可以锻炼。故选D。

Modern medicine and the latest technology can save many lives. If you live in a country where healthcare is readily available and accessible, then your chances of recovering from illnesses or accidents are very good. But for many people in the US who are uninsured (无保险的), they can’t afford these new medical treatments. That’s why Doctor Demetrio Aguila in Norfolk lets poor patients pay for surgery (外科手术) through volunteer work.
“For years I had been doing surgery for patients and taking care of their health problems. Then I would find out months later, sometimes years later, that I had caused their financial ruin,” Aguila said. Serious illnesses can completely deplete a family’s savings, leaving them no choice but to go bankrupt (破产).
Then he formed Healing Hands M25 as a way to give poor patients the medical fees they need by donating their time to community service. The process is pretty simple. They practice partners with local charitable organizations. The patient picks the charity and donates his time and sweat; Aguila determines the amount of volunteer hours the patient has to complete. “We’ve lowered the cost of healthcare. We’ve made it fair for everybody involved,” Aguila said.
The first patient to participate in the program was Jeffrey Jenson who worked for 560 hours to pay for surgery on his leg. Jenson asked his friends and family to help him complete the hours. Jenson said that his volunteer work greatly affected his life as much as the surgery. “The M25 program is not about money — it’s about if people come together to help other people, then the community becomes better,” said Jenson.
This program is a big win for the patients, the local community, and Dr Aguila who knows he has done everything he could to help his patients.
12. How does Aguila make poor patients pay for surgery
A. In cash. B. Through an insurance company.
C. By doing volunteer work. D. By serving the doctor.
13. What does the underlined word “deplete” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Set aside. B. Use up. C. Cut down. D. Add to.
14. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. What Healing Hands M25 does.
B. How Healing Hands M25 works.
C. Why Aguila runs Healing Hands M25.
D. Why patients choose Healing Hands M25.
15. What is Jenson’s attitude towards the M25 program
A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Objective. D. Unconcerned.
C 13. B 14. B 15. A
根据第一段的“But for many people in the US who are uninsured (无保险的), they can’t afford these new medical treatments. That’s why Doctor Demetrio Aguila in Norfolk lets poor patients pay for surgery (外科手术) through volunteer work.(但对于许多没有医疗保险的美国人来说,他们负担不起这些新的医疗手段。这就是为什么诺福克的Demetrio Aguila医生让贫穷的病人通过志愿者工作来支付手术费用)”可知,Aguila让贫穷的病人做志愿者工作来支付手术费用。故选C项。
【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据前文““For years I had been doing surgery for patients and taking care of their health problems. Then I would find out months later, sometimes years later, that I had caused their financial ruin,” Aguila said.(“多年来,我一直在为病人做手术,照顾他们的健康问题。几个月后,有时是几年后,我才发现是我让他们破产的。”Aguila说)”可知,接下来应是解释,Aguila具体发现了什么让他们破产,所以推知deplete a family’s savings应是“耗尽一个家庭的积蓄”之意,deplete应是“耗尽”之意,和B项意思相近。故选B项。
【14题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段“Then he formed Healing Hands M25 as a way to give poor patients the medical fees they need by donating their time to community service. The process is pretty simple. They practice partners with local charitable organizations. The patient picks the charity and donates his time and sweat; Aguila determines the amount of volunteer hours the patient has to complete. “We’ve lowered the cost of healthcare. We’ve made it fair for everybody involved,” Aguila said.(然后,他成立了“治愈之手M25”,通过奉献时间为社区服务,为贫困患者提供所需的医疗费用。这个过程非常简单。他们与当地的慈善组织合作。病人选择慈善事业,奉献自己的时间和汗水;Aguila决定了病人必须完成的志愿工作时间。“我们降低了医疗成本。我们让每个人都参与其中,”Aguila说)”可知,本段主要讲述了疗愈之手M25的工作原理。故选B项。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Jenson said that his volunteer work greatly affected his life as much as the surgery. “The M25 program is not about money — it’s about if people come together to help other people, then the community becomes better,” said Jenson.(Jenson说,他的志愿者工作对他的生活的影响和手术一样大。Jenson说:“M25计划的重点不是钱,而是如果人们团结起来帮助别人,那么社区就会变得更好。”)”可知,Jenson认为M25计划会让社区变得更好,所以他觉得是积极的。故选A项。

故填a。

故填What。
故填has attracted has been attracting。
故填to make。

The frightening day of our diving test was here. Our parents thought we were lucky to have an Olympic-size swimming pool at the school. My mom stressed that the swimming pool was one of the best in our city. But I didn’t feel happy about it at all. Instead, I felt afraid of the swimming pool. It was mainly because I was terribly shy.
I was so shy that I always sat at the back of the room in class so I’d not be called upon to read. As for the present physical education class each Monday morning, I would work my way to the back of the line forming at the diving board so I would not have to practice the dives.
Now, it was another Monday morning - the morning of our diving test. My blood ran cold when the teacher Ms. Robbins announced that we would be graded for our final on the most difficult dive- the jackknife. And she added, “This diving test is important. The one who fails has to spare time in the following Monday mornings to practice diving in this swimming pool and attend this test again.”
My body kept shaking with fear as the line to the scary diving board shortened. As I watched, each student seemed to perform the challenging dive effortlessly. And shortly I would have to attempt something that I had never even practiced before.
Then I remembered someone telling me that when you picture yourself doing a skill over and over, it’s just as effective as physically practicing that skill. So I watched carefully as each classmate jumped at the end of the board once, added a jump for height, folded their body in half to reach for their toes, and finally straightened out like an arrow for going into the water. After carefully watching for a while, I was actually in a state of surprise, because all of a sudden I realized that it was possible for me to perform these four steps of diving.
Eventually all classmates except me finished jumping. The teacher announced that it was my turn.
注意:1. 续与词数应为150左右;
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end.

Knowing I failed, I climbed out of the pool, embarrassed.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end. Looking down, I found all my classmates were looking up at me. My face suddenly felt hot. Finally, I ignored them. Picturing the four steps of diving, I jumped. Then I folded my body but failed to reach for my toes. And instead of entering the water like an arrow, I fell into the water, with my body being flat. As a result, it caused a huge sound, which made all the classmates burst out laughing.
Knowing I failed, I climbed out of the pool, embarrassed. After class, Ms. Robbins comforted and encouraged me. In the following many Monday mornings, I practiced again and again under her guidance. Gradually, I became more confident and less shy. Finally, I attended the diving test again and performed well. This time, my classmates cheered and clapped. I was so glad. I knew my success resulted from my beating my shyness and my hard practice.

Four years ago I was in a discussion about Nest Thermostat (恒温器), sharing my view that if a house is built properly, it doesn't need a smart thermostat.
D
13 What does the underlined word “deplete” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Set aside. B. Use up. C. Cut down. D. Add to.
14. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. What Healing Hands M25 does.
B. How Healing Hands M25 works.

注意:1. 续与词数应为150左右;
