At 104 years old, Dorothy Hoffner fell. Then she kept falling, and falling. When the lifelong Chicagoan finally touched the ground last Sunday, she landed in the history books and became the oldest person to ever sky-dive (跳伞).
As Hoffner prepared to board, she pushed her red walker out and walked slowly to the plane, where two expert instructors helped her up the steps into the hold. “Let’s go!” she said, finally seated. The plane quickly rose, Hoffner looking calm and confident all the while.
When the aft (机尾) door opened to show the crop fields far below, she and the instructor were ready to stand up. When Hoffner first sky-dived at 100 years old, she was pushed out, she said. This time, she wanted to lead the jump.
Seven minutes after her jump, she moved slowly in the air for her historic landing. The wind pushed back her white hair. A look of excitement and wonder spread across her face. She picked up her legs as the ground approached. And finally, she managed to land on the ground.
The crowd gathered along the landing area. Friends rushed to share the moment. Someone brought over Hoffner’s red walker. She rose fast, and a reporter asked how it felt to be back on the ground. “The whole thing was wonderful, and couldn’t have been better,” she said.
The Guinness World Record for oldest skydiver was set in May 2022 by 103-year-old Linnéa Ingegard Larsson from Sweden. When asked how it felt like to break the record, Hoffner replied quickly, “Like I’m old.” But the record didn’t seem to interest Hoffner before the jump. Instead, she focused on the peaceful falling through the sky. Hoffner strongly encouraged others to sky-dive like her. “It’s surprisingly affordable and so amazing,” she said.

27. What can we learn from Hoffner’s story
A. To see is to believe. B. Time tells everything.
C. Hard work pays off. D. Age is just a number.

Sometimes parents wonder if they should really give their children chores. After all, isn’t it the parents’ responsibility to manage the household And don’t children need an opportunity to “just be children” for now because they have the rest of their lives to worry about chores
Most children have really busy schedules. They rush around from one activity to another with little time to clean the house. Despite those concerns, however, giving your children chores may be one of the most important things you’ll ever do.
While giving your children chores can certainly take some of the stress off you, that’s not the only reason you should expect your children to do the chores. Studies show chores are good for children. Research from a well-known 75-year Harvard study shows that chores can shape children to be more likely to become happy, healthy and independent adults.
Why are chores like sweeping the floor and clearing the table so important to children’s happiness in life One reason is that children feel a sense of achievement when they do their chores. No matter whether they’re making their beds or they’re sweeping the floor, helping out around the house makes children feel capable. Doing chores also helps children feel like they’re part of the team and learn responsibility. Helping family members is good for them and it encourages them to be good adults.
Children who do chores gain important life skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. Life skills such as meal preparation, mowing the lawn, or doing the laundry will be important after high school, which helps your children live independently.
28. Why does the author raise questions in paragraph 1

31. What does this text focus on
A. Skills to deal with chores. B. Advantages of doing chores.
C. The importance of life skills. D. Ways to balance study and chores.

Spending time outdoors has long been linked (联系) to better health. Gardening goes beyond just beautifying outdoor spaces—it can have a deep effect on our physical and mental (身心上的) health.
Gardening involves physical activity that works all the main muscle (肌肉) groups, which is helpful for overall health. “Activities such as digging, planting, weeding and harvesting require movement and can help to improve strength,” said Clayton, CEO of an online lawn care company. “Performing these activities regularly can help burn calories, and keep a healthy weight.”
Beyond burning calories and building muscle, lots of studies have shown that gardening can improve the immune system (免疫系统). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people get at least 150 minutes of exercise each week, and gardening is listed as a suitable activity. Doing garden work for that time each week can reduce the risk of obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease. Additionally, spending time outdoors makes us get close to natural sunlight, which is important for vitamin D synth.
Gardening provides a chance for social connection, too. It can be a shared activity among family members, friends or neighbors, building relationships and a sense of belonging.
Gardening also offers cognitive (认知的) benefits. It excites the senses, improves focus and encourages problem-solving and creativity. It provides a chance to learn about plants, ecosystems and the environment, developing a deeper understanding and appreciation for nature.
32. What is Clayton’s attitude towards gardening
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Uncaring.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about gardening
A. It improves focus. B. It is a waste of time.
C. It can keep a body in shape. D. It helps to reduce the risk of diseases.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“You’re fired!” Andrew Chilton wasn’t joking. At that moment, the high school junior wanted his personal care attendant, Christy Chachere, out of his life forever. He didn’t want her help any more. He thought he could write his own term papers. “You’re fired!” He said it again.
Christy Chachere, a retired PE teacher, didn’t take a step back. She believed she could do this job. “You know, I’ve taught middle schoolers,” she said. What about Andrew’s outcry It was music to her ears. Progress was faster than expected.
When Andrew suffered from autism (自闭症) at age eight, people told his mom, Cindy, to get him on the list for an attendant to provide after-school care. Someone would drive him to places and see that he was safe. In New Orleans, Louisiana, the wait can be years; the need far outstrips (超过) the supply. Cindy had no choice but to turn to the program Volunteers of America for help.
Even so, it was eight years before they were matched with Christy. In the meantime, Andrew’s family did their best to help him get through life’s hardships. “I did worry about him,” said Cindy. There was a lot to worry about. Doctors and school teachers said that Andrew might not even graduate from high school. Other questions were around the corner as well. Would he ever have a job, or live independently ... Cindy would do anything for her son.
Christy saw the problem right away. “Andrew wouldn’t take a step without his mother’s permission (同意),” she recalled. “You have to let him fail,” she told the family. “It’s the only way he’s going to learn. He has to be able to do things on his own.”
No longer would Cindy help Andrew write papers. His younger brother wouldn’t help him with the computer, either. It was a little unacceptable to step back. Actually, everyone was on board but Andrew.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Andrew was filled with anger, but things began to change. ___________________________________________

M: Six to ten Hmm...that is quite a lot.

W: Good. Well, it has been most pleasant talking with you. We’ll inform you of our final decision in three days.
M: Thank you. Mrs. Hudson. I hope to see you soon.
W: Goodbye.
(Text 10)
W: Listen carefully, everyone. There will be a school trip to Hilltop Castle tomorrow. It’s a really interesting place, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy going there. We’re getting group tickets, so instead of the usual price of $6, you only have to pay $3 to visit the castle. And the bus is free. Now, don’t forget that we’re going on March 4th.Mrs.Philips,the school secretary, is away this week, so take your money to Mr. Gifford. He works in the office, too. I’m afraid you’ll have to get up early that day because you have to be at school at 7:30 am. The bus is leaving at 7:45 am and I want you all to be at school 15 minutes before that. At the castle, I’ll give you a piece of paper with questions on it and a pen to fill it out with. You should try to answer all the questions on it. Paper-Cutting Lights the Hope of Countryside
Hunan, 11 October 2023. Wang Kaijian, a paper-cutting inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, has been living in the countryside for 29 years in Hunan. In order to pass on the techniques of paper-cutting, he opens a class to teach paper-cutting lovers for free at his home. Every year, he also cooperates with nearby schools to encourage students to take part in paper-cutting activities and patiently tells them the secrets of paper-cutting about how to fold, draw and cut.
Wang Kaijian has been actively exploring the ways to pass on paper-cutting and lighting the hope of intangible cultural heritage in the countryside.
第二节
One possible version:
Andrew was filled with anger, but things began to change. He would come home from school, get a snack and start on his homework. He saw that Christy was really there for him. She wouldn’t do papers for him. But she showed him how to get his ideas into some sort of order before beginning doing things. And she coached him on how to deal with difficulties, and break work down into small pieces so as not to be overworked. She even explained to him how to ask his teachers for help.
“She understood me, and it turned out she was really nice,” Andrew said. Best of all, once his work was done. Christy offered freedom. She would take him to the bookshop or to a store where he could eat his favorite food… One step at a time, Andrew became independent gradually. And he stopped trying to fire Christy. He managed to graduate from high school and entered community college. When they arrived at the college, Andrew sprang from the car and ran purposefully across the campus, while Christy tried to keep up. “I think I’ve created a monster,” she joked.
