Dear Frank,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to invite you to participate in the upcoming winter mountain-climbing competition next Sunday.
It is required that the competitors set off at the school gate and follow the east route to the top of the mountain, which is known for its beautiful but challenging terrain. To prepare, please make sure you have proper equipment and gear, including light down jackets, for cold weather conditions. I believe your experience and skills will make a great addition to the contest.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Sincerely,
Li Hua
结合原文,由续写第一段首句 “Another 10 minutes dragged by and then my eyes widened.”
由第二段首句“…we found more neighbors coming.”
One possible version:
Another 10 minutes dragged by and then my eyes widened. In the distance, across the road, a couple walked in our direction. The woman was holding a bunch of flowers. “Someone’s coming!” Holly and Olivia called out, jumping up and down. With a racing heart, I watched as they headed our way. I sprang out of my seat, ran to them and reached out my hand. “Hi! I’m Tim. Thank you for coming!” “I’m Kyle Willson,” the husband said, shaking my hand firmly. “And I’m Emily,” his wife said. Smiling gently, Sarah took the bunch of flowers from her, hugged her and then led them to the yard. I was less anxious at that time.
Chatting with the old couple in the yard, we found more neighbors coming. Sally with the lovely kids, the Parkers, and Mr. Davis all made it here. We introduced each other and talked over refreshing cold drinks, bursting into laughter from time to time. “This is such a great idea and thank you for offering us the opportunity to bond with everybody on Whitney Drive.” Sally said. Olivia and Holly ran around with the kids, laughing out loud. From that day on, we often spend time together and help each other. I’ve learned that it’s not a place that builds a community but the people.

Text 1
W: Mike, have you got better now
M: Yeah, but the doctor said I had to stay here for another day for observation. I really miss home, and I’m worried about my studies.
Text 2
W: Pardon me, what is the price of this keyboard Is it on sale
M: It is usually fifty dollars, but it is twenty percent off until the 15th of this month.
Text 3
M: My chest hurts, and I’m having a hard time breathing. Maybe I should take some medicine.
W: Come on, honey. I’m driving you to the hospital. You need to get checked out.
Text 4
M: Could you come to our evening party tomorrow
W: I’d like to. But it’s a great pity that I have something more important to do then.
Text 5
W: What do you think is the best way to get to Manchester
M: Well, it has been raining heavily, so taking a bus or driving your car can be dangerous. The best choice is by train.
W: I couldn’t agree more.
Text 6
W: Your daughters are so cute! I can’t believe they’re only seven years old. How did they learn so much already
M: Well, my wife and I have been reading to them since they were very young. So they became interested in reading at young age. They’ve both been reading well since the age five.
W: That’s wonderful! I wish my son would do that, too.
M: Don’t worry too much about him. He’ll read more when he’s ready. It’s better to let him do what he’s most interested in. He’s only six, right
Text 7
M: Hey, Vivian. You look down today. I guess that you didn’t do well in exams.
W: Well, my English is very disappointing. I got a C.
M: Why You said you liked it very much.
W: Well, I do, but I have problems understanding all those grammar rules. I get them all mixed up in my head!
M: Poor girl! And what about your math
W: Ah, it’s a piece of cake.
M: Great. And how are you doing in physics
W: Er, that’s my favorite class. Mr Jones always makes his lessons attractive.
Text 8
M: Laura, do you have any dreams for the future, like starting a family and supporting parents
W: Well, those are necessary things. But I’m wondering about some personal goals and dreams.
M: Like what
W: For example, traveling the world and seeing famous artworks.
M: Wow, you know I’ve mainly studied global history for several years. So, I’d like to visit the historic sites like the Forbidden City in Beijing.
W: Interesting. I’ve learned most about art and geography. I’d prefer to visit the most famous museums in the world.
M: Oh, nice! I once went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art here in New York.
W: Yeah. That’s the largest art museum in the US.
M: But the most visited museums in the world may be in Paris and Beijing. I once visited the Louvre Museum in Paris while I was on a business trip.
W: That sounds great. The Louvre Museum has been on my wish list for quite some time.
Text 9
M: Hey, Alice. I’m sorry I’m late.
W: Don’t worry about it. Did you have trouble finding a place to park
M: Actually, that wasn’t the problem. I left early enough to avoid the traffic, but I couldn’t get across the bridge.
W: What was happening on the bridge
M: I couldn’t tell. I just saw the road signs, so I turned around and took the long way here.
W: Well, it looks like we missed the worst of the weather. It was raining cats and dogs this morning.
M: That’s good. I can see the sky is clearing up and the wind has stopped. What are those tents for
W: They’re for the food fair. It will close soon, so you’d better get over there if you want to eat. Unfortunately, you came a bit late for the music.
M: So what is this event all about, anyway
W: It’s just a community festival we have every year. All the food, entertainment and activities represent the many cultures in our city.
M: Cool. What’s happening across the street at the stadium I saw many reporters there.
W: That’s where all the dancing and sports events will take place.
M: That sounds fun.
Text 10
M: People usually start a speech with a joke or funny story to help break the ice, making the audience feel more comfortable. A sense of humour and the ability to laugh at oneself are considered important by most British and Americans. Sometimes a person who cannot do this is regarded as having no sense of humour. The British sense of humour is various. And sometimes what one person finds funny may not make another person smile. Some people even can joke while keeping a serious face. Other people are known for short but meaningful comments. They show a clever type of humor. However, American humour is usually more direct. For example, in some American TV programs, some characters are more stupid than any real person could be. Well, remember, having a sense of humor does not mean playing tricks on someone at any time, anywhere. But on April Fool’s Day, people can play tricks on each other. By the way, a person’s sense of humour is influenced by many things, including their family, social background, and age.{#{QQABJYQAogioAAIAABgCQQkICEKQkAEACCoGBFAIMAIBQRNABAA=}#}
