separate及物或不及物动词,意为“分开;(使)分离;区分;隔开”;作形容
词时,意为“单独的;分开的,分离的”。

①explain动词,意为“解释,说明”。explain...to sb.意为“向某人解释……”。
explain不能构成explain sb. sth.,而要说explain sth. to sb.“向某人解释某事”。
②what happened then在此句中是一个宾语从句。它是由特殊疑问句变化而来。
所以由特殊疑问词(who、where、when、what等)引导,句式要用陈述句语序。

①if you’ve mentioned this to her这是一个if引导的宾语从句。如果宾语从句是
从一般疑问句变化而来,要用if或whether引导,其含义为“是否”。
[提醒] A. 在动词不定式之前只能用whether。
B. 在whether... or not的固定搭配中只能用whether。
C. 在介词后只能用whether。
②mention及物动词,意为“提及”,其后通常接名词、代词或动名词作宾语。
[句子结构] Don’t mention it. 意为“不客气”,用于回复别人的感谢。另外,
还有“That’s all right./You’re welcome.”也表示“不客气”。

refuse及物或不及物动词,意为“拒绝;谢绝”。作及物动词时,后面直接
跟名词、代词、不定式或从句作宾语,其反义词为agree;名词为refusal,意
为“拒绝”。

[辨析] treat与cure“治疗;医治”。
①treat“医治;治疗”。强调诊断、治疗,既可指药物治疗,也可指某些有
益的建议等精神治疗。
②cure“医疗;治愈”。多指治愈疾病。

regret及物动词或不及物动词,意为“懊悔;遗憾”。其用法:
A. 后接名词,表示对某事后悔。
B. 后接动词不定式表示因将要做某事而感到抱歉或不快。
C. 后接动名词表示因做了某事而感到后悔。
D. 后接that/wh-从句表示对某事感到遗憾。

be patient with sb.意为“容忍某人”。patient作形容词,意为“有耐性的;
能容忍的”,在句中可用作定语或表语;无比较级和最高级。其副词是

[提醒] patient当名词用时,意为“病人”。其对应词是doctor“医生”。

introduce sb. to sb.意为“把某人介绍给某人”,introduce为及物动词,意
为“介绍;引见”。其名词是introduction,意为“介绍;说明;入门”。
常用词组有:
A. introduce myself “自我介绍”。
B. introduce A to B “将A介绍给B认识”。

①encourage是及物动词,意为“鼓励;激励”。常接名词、代词作宾语;
也可接以动词不定式充当补足语的复合宾语,此时动词不定式可能指未来的动
作,也可指正在进行的动作。常用句式:encourage sb.to do sth.鼓励某人干某事。
②join in 意为“参加”
[辨析] join、join in与take part in
A. join多指加入组织、团体、党派等,有作为其中的一个成员的含义。
B. join in指参加某项游戏、活动、讨论等。
C. take part in多指参加和参与群众性的活动、运动、会议及战争等,含有
以主人翁的态度加入其中并发挥一定作用的意思。
12. No problem, Lingling.
[解析] no problem意为“没问题;没关系”。常用来回答对方所提的条件及
感谢之类的话语。有时用在句中相当于not a problem或not any problems。
