To know the usage of present perfect continuous passive voice and use it correctly.
To use the words and phrases describing Chinese art forms correctly.
目标一:To know the usage of present perfect continuous passive voice and use it correctly
Activity 1: Look at the sentences from the reading passage and answer the questions.
a And just look at how her dress is being folded by the wind!
b I’m being pushed around quite a bit, in fact.
1. What causes the action in sentence (a) The dress or the wind
The wind causes the action.
2. What is happening to “me” in sentence (b)
People around “me” are pushing “me”.
Compare them with the following sentences and answer the questions.
c And just look at how the wind is folding her dress!
d People are pushing me around quite a bit, in fact.
3. What is the difference between the two groups of sentences
The two sentences of the first group use the passive form, while the two of the second group use the active form.
4. Why does the author choose to use the passive form instead of the active form in the reading passage
In the first sentence of the first group, the author is describing the sculpture, so the dress instead of the wind should be the author’s focus and it serves as the subject. In the second sentence of the first group, “I” don’t know the people around “me”, so there is no need to mention who are pushing “me”. As a result, the passive form is used here.
Now look for more sentences with the present continuous passive in the reading passage.
This broadcast is being brought to you from one of the largest museums on Earth - the Louvre! (Para.1)About 35,000 works are currently being displayed in over 300 rooms in the Louvre, and it would take a lifetime to see everything! (Para.5)
Activity 2: Read the sentences and summarise the sentence structures of present perfect passive.
(1) Some trees are being cut down in the park. (2) It is reported that the water in the lake is not being protected now. (3) Are the babies being taken care of by this nurse (4) Who is being trained for the coming English speech contest
肯定句 be(am/is/are)+being done
否定句 be(am/is/are)+not+being done
一般疑问句 be(am/is/are)+主语+being done
特殊疑问句 特殊疑问词+be(am/is/are)+主语+being done
Activity 3: Read the groups of sentences and summarise the usage of present continuous perfect passive.
Group 1:My younger sister is now being interviewed. Look! The baby is being taken care of by her mother. Summary:表示说话时_________________________。句中常用now, at the moment等时间状语。
正在进行的被动动作
Group 2:These animals are being hunted at such a speed that they will disappear soon. Preparations are being made for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Summary:表示_______________________________(说话时不一定在进行)。

【Attention】1. 在现在进行时的被动语态中be为第一助动词, being为第二助动词, 缺一不可, 且位置不可互换。此结构若缺少being, 则就成为一般现在时的被动语态或系表结构。试比较: *The moving story is being read by a student in a soft voice. 这个感人的故事正在由一名学生轻声读着。*The moving story is read well by a student. 一名学生将这个感人的故事读得很好。(一般现在时的被动语态)2. 及物动词短语是一个整体, 在被动语态中不要遗漏后面的介词或副词。*The children are being taken good care of by their grandmother. 那些孩子正由他们的祖母好好照看着。
3. 非延续性动词、表示存在意义、所属关系、静态特征的动词以及系动词不用于现在进行时的被动语态。*It is known to us that Taiwan belongs to China. 众所周知, 台湾是中国的领土。4. “be(am/is/are)+under/in+n. ”有时可相当于现在进行时的被动语态。*The bridge is under construction. =The bridge is being constructed. 这座桥正在建设之中。
Activity 4: Rewrite the underlined parts using the passive.
Do you think going to a museum is the only way to see art Actually, art is everywhere around us! For example, on some buildings in my city, young people are painting beautiful pictures. Some people don’t like graffiti, but I think it’s really colourful. Even trees can be art—some people are trimming trees into interesting shapes, like animals or clouds. And look up—construction workers are building impressive, original buildings in every neighbourhood. It’s easy to see great art nowadays, because people are creating it everywhere you look.

Yesterday, I went to an amazing Chinese art festival. There were different stands where artists could demonstrate their skills and teach the visitors! It was definitely an exciting experience for a foreign student like me. What caught my attention first was a 15th-century qinghua bowl in a breathtaking exhibition of Chinese 1______________. It vividly illustrated a dragon playing with a ball.

Then I tried some 2______________, that is, making images out of paper. It was difficult, but a lot of fun! With help from the artist, I managed to make one in the shape of a fish. Meanwhile, a woman at the next stand was using a needle and some thread to do some 3______________. It looked so pretty! Then I went into a section decorated like a traditional Chinese study, with two beautiful 4 __________________ of a pine tree and some bamboo hung on the walls. There was also an old man writing Chinese 5______________: his writing was so free and elegant! Another man sitting next to him showed me how 6______________ works. Chinese characters are carved into small squares of stone and stamped onto paper with ink. He made one for me with my name in Chinese – pretty awesome!

My home town is famous for the traditional art of paper cutting. Paper cutting sounds very easy but it can be difficult to do. The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals, and things about Chinese history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year.
