Language points
1. On the one hand, more than three quarters of the population are Chinese,….On the other hand, Singapore is an English-speaking country,…
on the one hand… on the other hand…一方面……另一方面……,用于表示一个事情的两个方面。
e.g. On the one hand, loss implies gain; on the other hand, gain implies loss.
塞翁失马,安知非福;塞翁得马,安知非祸。
quarter n. 四分之一;一刻钟 a quarter = one fourth
e.g. three quarters 四分之三
“数词+ quarter(s) of +名词”作主语时,若名词为复数形式,谓语动词用复数形式;若名词为单数形式或不可数名词,谓语动词用单数形式。
e.g. In China, two thirds of the tea is produced in the south.
在中国三分之二的茶叶是在南方生产的。
In our class,two thirds of the students are girls.
我们班三分之二的学生是女生。

seem好像,似乎,看来,是连系动词,可以接形容词。
常用的句型:1)主语 + seem + (to be) +表语;
2)It seems + that从句;
3)主语 + seem + 不定式。
e.g. Tom seems (to be) a very clever boy.
汤姆看上去是一个非常聪明的男孩。
It seems that he is happy today. 今天他似乎很高兴。
Tom seems to know our city very well.
汤姆好像很熟悉我们的城市。
4. So you can choose to go whenever you like…
whenever conj. 在任何时候; 无论何时。
(1) whenever 引导让步状语从句相当于no matter when。
(2) whenever意为“究竟何时”,相当于when on earth。
e.g. Whenever/No matter when we met with difficulties, they came to
help us.
