Language points
1. On the one hand, more than three quarters of the population are Chinese,….On the other hand, Singapore is an English-speaking country,…
on the one hand… on the other hand…一方面……另一方面……,用于表示一个事情的两个方面。
e.g. On the one hand, loss implies gain; on the other hand, gain implies loss.
塞翁失马，安知非福；塞翁得马，安知非祸。
quarter n. 四分之一；一刻钟 a quarter = one fourth
e.g. three quarters 四分之三
“数词+ quarter(s) of +名词”作主语时，若名词为复数形式，谓语动词用复数形式；若名词为单数形式或不可数名词，谓语动词用单数形式。
e.g. In China, two thirds of the tea is produced in the south.
在中国三分之二的茶叶是在南方生产的。
In our class,two thirds of the students are girls.

whenever conj. 在任何时候; 无论何时。
(1) whenever 引导让步状语从句相当于no matter when。
(2) whenever意为“究竟何时”,相当于when on earth。
