知识梳理
Language points
1. population：意为“人口数量”，“人口”，是一个集合名词。
表示人口“多”要用large或big；表示人口“少”要用small。
e.g. China has the biggest population in the world.
中国世界上人口最多的国家。
population常与定冠词 the 连用,作主语用时,谓语动词常用第三人称单数形式。
e.g. The world's population increasing is faster and faster.
全世界的人口增长得越来越快。
The population of China is about 1,300,000,000. 中国人口大约有13亿
当主语是表示“人口的百分之几、几分之几”时,谓语动词用复数形式。
e.g. About seventy percent of the population in China are farmers.
中国大约有百分之七十的人口是农民。
询问某国、某地有多少人口时, “How large... ”;在问具体人口时用“What... ”。
e.g. How large is the population of your hometown

2. It's much older than my country.
much older 此处意为“悠久得多”。在形容比较级前还可以用even, a little, still ,a lot, less等修饰词表示程度。
e.g. He runs even faster than I.
他比我跑得更快。
Japan is a little larger than Germany in area.
日本土地面积只比德国大一点儿。
3. Feel free to ask me anything on today's Great Wall tour.
在今天的长城游中，大家尽管问我任何问题，不要拘束。
feel free是英语口语中一个常用表达。若有人让你feel free to do something,就是让你无需拘束, 只管按照自己的意愿去做某事。
e.g. —Can I use your bathroom
—Yes, feel free.
4. As far as I know, there are no other man-made objects as big as this.
据我所知, 再没有像这样大的人造物体了。
as far as I know 是一个固定的表达方式, 还可以说so far as I know，
意思是“据我所知”。
e.g. As far as I know, Jack's got twin sisters.
据我所知，杰克有一对孪生姐妹。
They're not coming today, as far as I know.

形容词比较等级的用法
(1)同级比较
①表示两者在性质和程度上相同时, 用“as+形容词原级+as”句型，意为“和……一样”。(甲=乙) 例如:
The story is as interesting as that one.
②表示两者在性质和程度上不相同时, 用“not as+形容词原级+as”句型，意为“不如……”。(甲 < 乙) 例如:
Mary isn't as tall as Tom.
(2)比较级
表示“一方比另一方更……”， 用than 进行比较， 用“比较级+ than”句型。(甲 > 乙)例如:
I'm taller than my sister.
(3)最高级
三者或三者以上相比, 用最高级，形容词最高级一般要加the。最高级之后一般要接表示范围的介词短语(在一定的地域空间内用in，在同一类事物范围内进行比较用of)。例如:
China is the largest country in Asia.
(4)比较级与最高级的相互转换。例如:
The song is the most popular.
→The song is more popular than any other song.
→The song is more popular than the other songs.
