Language points
1. unless 意为“除非,如果不”,引导一个条件状语从句。
有时可与 if…not 交换使用。遵循“主将从现”的原则。
e.g. You will be late unless you get up early.
You will be late if you don’t get up early.
2. as soon as 意为“一……就……”,强调两个动作几乎是连在一
起的,引导一个时间状语从句。遵循“主将从现”的原则。
e.g. I will call you as soon as I get to Beijing.
3.so …that … 意为如此……以致于……”,引导一个结果状语从句。 so 后面连接的是形容或副词的原级。
1).主语+谓语+so+adj. / adv. + that从句。
e.g. The boy ran so fast that I couldn't catch him.
2). so+形容词+a(n)+单数名词+that从句。
e.g. She made so good a meal that we all ate too much.
It was so fine a day yesterday that we all went out for a picnic.
3). so+ many / much / few / little(少)+名词+that从句。
当名词前有many、much、few、little(少)等词修饰时,句子中要用so...that...而不能用such...that...。
e.g. I made so many mistakes that failed in the exam yesterday.
4. 在such... that...句型中,such修饰名词,意思也是“如此……以致于……”。
1). such+a(n)+形容词+单数名词+that从句。
e.g. This is such a good book that all of us like it very much.
It was such a fine day that nobody wanted to stay at home.
2). such+形容词+复数名词+that从句。
e.g. He had such long arms that he could almost touch his knees.
They are such good students that the teacher likes them.
3). such+(形容词)+不可数名词+that从句。
e.g. It was such fine weather yesterday that we went swimming.
