名词或名词短语可以在句中充当主语、表语、宾语、同位语。当这些名词或名词短语由一个句子替代时,就是名词性从句。名词性从句(Noun Clauses)是在句子中起名词作用的句子。根据在句中不同的语法功能,可以把名词性从句分别称为:
the subject clause 主语从句
the object clause 宾语从句
the predicative clause 表语从句
the appositive clause 同位语从句
functioning as the object
functioning as the predicative
functioning as the appositive
functioning as the subject
同位语从句appositive clause
  同位语从句在句中作某一名词的同位语,一般位于抽象名词(如:news, fact, idea, suggestion, promise,importance, order, expectation, dream, hope, wish, 等)之后,说明该名词的具体内容。

名词性从句的引导词可分为三类
