第三节 (满分 25分)
67. One possible version (词数:168)
Very quietly she slipped into the kitchen and came back with the meat. The wolf was still
standing by the pram licking the baby’s face. She threw the meat into a corner under a tree
well away from the pram. As the meat hit the ground, the wolf looked round. It hesitated for
a moment, and then left for the meat and began to eat it. Mrs Clarke walked quietly to the
pram and immediately picked up the baby and ran into the kitchen as fast as possible. She
sank into a chair, crying in relief.
Holding the baby to her in the kitchen, she telephoned the police. When the police
arrived, she told them what had happened and took them to the kitchen window. The wolf
was lying on the grass, still eating the meat. The police said they had sent for two men from
the zoo and they would arrive in a minute. Five minutes later, two men from the Dorford
Zoo came with a net and a small cage. Before long, the wolf was safely in the cage and
taken away, the rest of the meat still in its mouth.
附:听力录音文本
(Text 1)
W: Hmm, I had bread and an egg for breakfast. What did you have, Fred
M: I wasn’t hungry this morning. I had some fruit. I had a banana and an apple.
(Text 2)
W: Jane, you seem to like to stay with people who are a lot more outgoing and confident than
you are.
M: Yeah. I’m kind of shy and quiet myself, so I let them do the talking.
(Text 3)
W: What time should I pick you up
M: Let’s see. I should be home by 6:00, but I need some time to get ready. How about a
quarter to seven
W:Well, I have to prepare dinner for my son. I’ll be there at 7:30.
(Text 4)
W: Mary and I will go out to dinner after class on Friday. Can you go with us
M: Yeah, sure. But what time are we going to go out I have to be home by ten, or I’ll get into
trouble.

(Text 5)
W: Did your teacher give a task for Monday
M: There is nothing to read in the textbook, but we have to see a movie and write a short
report about it.
(Text 6)
M: I don’t know about you, Tanya, but I’m still hungry.
W: No, I’m fine. It was a good meal. Rather expensive though.
M: More than rather! I thought they charged far too much for what we got.
W: But if you want to eat out elsewhere, you have to be prepared to pay much more. It’s not
just you’re paying for. You pay for the surroundings, the service, the music — even the
fresh flowers on the table. It’s all those things that make it such an enjoyable evening.
M: I suppose so. But I think it’d be better to buy something really special and eat it at home.
W: Oh yes! And who does the cooking
M: I’m always ready to help.
W: That’s not the point. I want to be able to enjoy a relaxing evening and that means...
M: And wasting money. Maybe we’ll end up in debt before long. Just think what we could
have bought if we’d stayed at home.
W: But it’s not as much fun! I loved the music.
M: Well, I found it embarrassing. I hate it when the violinist stood right beside me. I didn’t
know where to look.
(Text 7)
M: Hey, I think I found a job that might interest Lisa. Where is she
W: She went to Liverpool visiting friends, I think. What is it
M: Well, it’s from London Week which claims to be the only newspaper for visitors to
London.
W: What do they want A reporter
M: No, it’s what they call a sales representative.
W: Hmm. Could be interesting. How much does it pay
M: Not bad. Three thousand pounds a month. That’s five hundred pounds more than what she
made in her last job.
W: Not bad at all. Any requirement
M: Salespeople with no less than two years of experience, not necessarily in advertising.
Lisa’s got plenty of that.
W: Any other details about the job
M: No, just the paid trips to Paris on top of the salary.
W: Well, let’s tell Lisa. She’ll be back tomorrow I expect.

W: Hi, John, you know the music festival that’s starting this Saturday
M: Um… someone mentioned it. Is it any good
W: It’s great! Mostly small folk groups, but they have well-known bands too. Some of us go
every year—you want to join us
M: But… isn’t it too late to get tickets.
W: Well, the way it works is…about 6 a.m. on Friday, people start lining up in the park. We
all bring something to sit on — and food — so the wait is not bad. As long as you’re at the
park by six, you’ll get a ticket.
M: OK. I think I can get there by six. I’ll go!
(Text 9)
M: Hello, Jenny. This is Mike. I thought you were coming over to study.
W: Yeah, I know, but my mother has to go out for the morning and my father has gone to
work today, so I have to stay with my sister. Sorry.
M: Oh, that means you can’t come over, right
W: I guess so. Can we do it later today How about in the afternoon My mother will be back
in the afternoon.
M: I can’t. My aunt and uncle are coming to visit for the weekend. They will arrive at about
5:00 p.m. and then we’ll eat out in the evening.
W: We really need to get our project finished. Hey, could you come over here
M: What a great idea! I should have thought about that. Sure, when can I come
W: Right now, if you want to. You can take the No. 6 bus here. We can take a break at noon
and I can make us sandwiches for lunch and then we can continue to work in the afternoon.
I’m sure we can finish it before 4:00 p.m.
M: I’ll tell mom and ride over on my bike. See you in an hour.
(Text 10)
W: Welcome to Newtown, boys and girls. Now let me introduce the main shopping places in
Newtown. There are two supermarkets: Coopers, selling all kinds of food, is only five
minutes’ walk from the college and has a large car park; Shopsmart, on the edge of town, is
bigger and usually has the most competitive prices, but is difficult to get to. It is best to buy
fresh fruit and vegetables in the market, which is held every day apart from Sunday.
In Bridge Street, there are four bookshops, where you’ll find a good range of dictionaries.
For those on a tight budget, there is Mass—a huge shop selling study materials, where you
can buy everything from files and pens to software. There is a small bookshop in the
college, which also sells basic things like paper.
Newtown doesn’t have as many souvenir shops as London, but the castle has its own shop,
and so does the museum. Anyway, I hope this talk will be useful for you and I wish you a
pleasant stay.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Top cookbooks of 2023 The Wok: Recipes and Techniques by J.Kenji Lopez-Alt
The Wok’s appeal is not innovation; you can find many dishes like Kung Pao Shrimp and Cumin Lamb on many Chinese restaurant menus. But you don’t have to leave your home. As far as I’m concerned, it’s worth the sticker price to learn the techniques.
Turkey and the Wolf: Flavor Trippin’ in New Orleans by Mason Hereford
Chef Mason Hereford has put to paper some of the magic that draws locals and tourists alike to his popular New Orleans sandwich shop, Turkey and the Wolf. The cookbook is full of recipes accessible to home cooks. The meatloaf is my favorite.
Mi Cocina: Recipes and Rapture from My Kitchen in Mexico by Rick Martinez
With seven sections focused on different regions across the country, Rick Martinez guides you through some of the essential recipes for each. The recipes are lovely, but what I love most are the stories alongside each of them. Food is deeply personal and with Mi Cocina, Martinez is sharing his life in food and inviting you to come along.
I Am from Here: Stories and Recipes from a Southern Chef by Vishwesh Bhatt
Western India and the Southern U.S. share more culinary ( 烹饪的) similarities than you’d think, from rice varieties to fresh tomatoes. Here, these ingredients explode in a
delicious combination of seasonings and essential cooking techniques.
Whose book provides guidance on Chinese cooking
A. Rick Martinez’s. B. Vishwesh Bhatt’s.
C. Mason Hereford’s. D. J.Kenji Lopez-Alt’s. 22.Which book is titled after its author’s sandwich shop
A. The Wok. B. I Am from Here.
C. Mi Cocina. D. Turkey and the Wolf. 23.What do Mi Cocina and I Am from Here have in common
They share some stories.
They feature Indian and American food.
They stress food’s role in connecting cultures.
They stress the importance of fresh ingredients.
B
I still remember my father’s embarrassment the day when he was invited to have dinner at a colleague’s house. Freshly arriving in Brazil, and not being able to look up on the Internet, he offended his hosts by making a hand gesture — a circle with the thumb and index finger. He had always understood it to mean “OK”, but in Brazil, it meant something different.
The incident was quickly forgotten. My father’s colleague understood that he probably wasn’t yet aware of the local meaning of the gesture. He gently explained it meant something rude, and then it was kept in mind under “things not to be done in Rio”.
I was reminded myself when touring China. After I replied to a friend’s WeChat message with a Van Gogh sticker that I thought meant “keep fighting”, another friend told me I used it wrong.
“The Chinese version is a bit different,” she said, taking out her phone and showing to me. “See these characters They mean ‘I will hit you!’”
Life is full of crossed meanings. In India, you sign to someone to come over with your palm down, not up. And in the Middle East, you never use your left hand for anything public.
As adults, we understand that even if it hurts, a mistake is only an insult (侮辱) when it is made on purpose. Yet, many conflicts come from misunderstanding, and history is full of the unfortunate outcomes of cross-cultural communication.
My father’s pre-Internet Brazilian mistake was forgiven because of context — he had just arrived and he didn’t know its local meaning. But when context is absent or simply
differently understood — especially in the social media — perhaps it is time we all think twice before typing or talking, especially when the consequences can be more severe than the misuse of a WeChat sticker.
What can be inferred from the author’s father’s story
A. Cultural differences are common. B. The Internet helps to avoid mistakes.
C. Misunderstandings lead to bad results. D. The OK sign means differently in Brazil.
What did the author mean to do by using the Van Gogh sticker
A. To greet his friend.
C. To encourage his friend.
What might result in if there is no context
B. To threaten his friend.
D. To make fun of his friend.
A. Forgiveness. B. Cultural gaps.
C. Cultural conflicts. D. Mutual(相互的) respect.
What could be the best title for the text
A. Tourism and Culture. B. Language and Culture.
C. Verbal Communication. D. Cross-Cultural Communication.
C
Going against the tide of flocking to well-known tourist destinations on vacation, a growing number of holidaymakers in China tend to spend their leisure time at lesser-known attractions. Reverse tourism( 逆 向 旅 游 ) has appeared as a new trend among young holidaymakers in China.
According to data from an online travel agency, the number of rooms booked at hotels in less-traveled cities during the holiday was up 30 percent year-on-year. Bookings for four-star or five-star hotels in less-traveled places all increased ten times at a minimum. Some lesser-known scenic spots posted double-digit(两位数的) growth during the holiday. Baimaiquan Park in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, received 52,100 visits in the seven days, up to 15.78 percent year-over-year.
Besides crowds, some vacationers chose less-traveled places to save on the cost of trips to popular destinations. In addition, lesser-known attractions are not as “commercial” as developed ones and are able to offer more actual experiences and natural encounters.
Essentially speaking, total relaxation is becoming a real expectation for many people when they travel. Changes in demand may be the fundamental reason for the popularity of reverse tourism. COVID-19 is another key factor fueling reverse tourism. As preventive measures continue, traveling has an unpredictable quality. Travelers have thus become more
cautious and tend to choose local attractions or places with fewer tourists.
“The rise of reverse tourism is not a bad thing,” said Zhengzhou Daily. It means that vacationers now have more options, which brings more possibilities to the tourism market. More importantly, it noted, the trend is set to force popular destinations to improve themselves instead of resting on their past honor.
Jiang Han, a senior researcher, said that reverse tourism will become one of the future directions for the market. To give a real boost to the tourism market, Jiang suggested that more efforts be made to tap the potential of underestimated, lesser-known destinations. It is necessary to dig deeper into the local customs and highlight the local characteristics to improve the quality of local tourism.
What do the statistics in paragraph 2 tell us
The popularity of travel agency in China.
The high income of hotels during holidays.
The contributions of tourism to the economy.
The increasing trend of reverse tourism in China.
What may be the root cause of the rise of reverse tourism
The impact of COVID-19.
Holidaymakers’ changing needs for travel.
The lower cost of heading to less-traveled places.
The lack of innovative improvements in famous attractions.
What does Zhengzhou Daily think of reverse tourism
It will drop with the recovery of economy.
It benefits both tourists and the tourism market.
It is beneficial to spread local culture to tourists.
It blocks the development of some popular resorts.
What is Jiang Han’s advice on developing the tourism market
Upgrading the supporting facilities in tourist areas.
Improving the management rules of tourist attractions further.
Exploring the potential and features of lesser-known attractions.
Promoting the local characteristics of China through online media.
D
An increasingly popular way of eating called reducetarianism may sound like a new weight loss trend. But that’s not the goal; instead, reducetarianism is about cutting down the
amount of meat you eat and making small changes that are healthy for you and the planet. “But the vast majority don’t want to go vegan”, says Brian Kateman, co-founder of the Reducetarian Foundation. So he has a simple message for us: “Don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good.” Compared with a vegetarian, reducetarians take a more flexible approach that acknowledges challenges of giving up meat entirely but still limits meat when possible.
The opposite side of eating less meat is eating more plant foods. Animal products often replace fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, leading to lack of nutrients from them. A more plant-based diet can help lower the risk of health problems including heart disease, colon cancer, and obesity. And research shows the climate impact from raising plant-based foods is less than that caused by animal-based foods. This is largely because it takes much more land, water, and other resources to produce a pound of meat than plant protein, says Dana Ellis, a dietitian.
The type of meat you buy matters too. Grass-fed meat — from animals raised without antibiotics (抗生素)— tend to be the more sustainable options. By grazing, cows encourage grass growth and nutrient turnover in the soil, which may help offset cattle’s climate impact, according to a study published in 2021.
Looking for local produce that requires no air transport and cutting down the food waste are also significant aspects of being a reducetarian. The message of reducetarianism is that you don’t have to be perfect to help yourself and the planet by making small changes in how you eat and shop for food. And that’s something we all can accomplish.
What does reducetarianism refer to
A. A new weight loss trend.
C. An idea of accepting imperfection.
B. A healthy diet with little meat.
D. An approach to being a vegetarian.
Why should eating more plant foods be encouraged
It ensures all the nutrients needed.
C. It helps to free people from diseases.
It does less damage to the environment.
D. It allows people to obtain more protein.
Who is more likely to be a reducetarian according to the passage
A. A meat lover.
C. A keen environmentalist.
B. A cow raiser.
D. A devoted vegetarian.
What conclusion can be drawn from the last paragraph
Small changes in diet better man and the earth.
Any quantity of food waste should be avoided.
Reducetarianism is something far from perfect.
Food produced locally can offer more nutrition.
第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
For most people traveling abroad, their first choice is probably to rush directly for tourist sights. For me, I find lots of joy in grocery shopping on holiday.
As a vegetarian, finding restaurants that meet my needs is not always easy abroad.
36 The first thing I do, after dropping my bags off, is to go to a grocery store. That enables me to cook breakfast in the morning without walking around for hours trying to find “vegan breakfast” near me.
The variety of foods attracts me every time I travel somewhere new. In Malta, I found the most delicious chocolate-filled cakes, a product I would struggle to find even in the UK.
37 I was so delighted that I could enjoy such an unexpected treat. Another surprise was their selection of ice cream available even in the smallest grocery stores.
38 Looking for smoked tofu and corn pancakes turns into quite a mission whenever I visit Cluj-Napoca in Romania. There is usually only one variety of smoked tofu, sold in a very small box and only in the cafeteria section. 39 That is because they are never available at the smaller ones.
Grocery shopping on holiday sounds unusual. But it means being involved in the day-to-day lives of a country’s citizens. I can pretend I am a local and put myself in their shoes. I can watch kids begging their parents for sweets, an international experience that needs no language, or watch couples pick up snacks and drinks for a party on a Friday night. 40
I ended up eating these every day for breakfast.
The challenge of finding food is interesting, too.
So I always make sure to book a place with a kitchen.
Grocery shopping was a vital part of the holiday experience.
It’s an act of understanding people as much as of buying food.
Corn pancakes always require a trip to the bigger grocery store.
By wandering around in a new country, I start to see what they value.

第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分)

In American culture, I am noticing a lack of respect, especially among children. This should be treated 41 since disrespectful children will become disrespectful adults. American culture is 42 the ways of teaching respect, while other cultures have methods that Americans could learn from.
Once I spent several months in Kenya living with a Maasai family. One of their customs is the 43 that the children give the adults. When an adult approaches children, they will 44 and lean their heads slightly saying “Suppa”. The adult responses by saying “Ippa” and touching their heads. This simple act shows respect for the adult. The children
45 that they are their elder who deserves respect.
Later, I worked at a children’s home in Carolina where the children were taught to respect their elders. They 46 me as “Mr. Vince” and every worker there with a “Mr, Mrs, or Ms.”. However, as I talk to teachers working with children now, there seems to be a 47 in such a friendly behavior that children give adults. Fewer students treat teachers with respect: Children frequently talk back to their teachers and 48 their authority( 权 威 ). Children 49 speak with other adults like waiters in the way as if they were close friends.
Immanuel Kant expressed two 50 attitudes still common today in Europe. One is that only humans freely choose to act on principles by 51 laws on themselves. It is this mind based on 52 that makes humans unique. Second, to learn to follow principles, a human child needs to learn to follow the laws of 53 . They must practice 54 rules before they are able to practice autonomy(自主权). Kant said that “act in the way you want others to act in the situation, taking other people as persons, not 55 you use for your own goals”. Only in this way can you become a real person with intrinsic values.

第 II 卷
第三部分 语言运用
第二节 (共 6 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 9 分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入 1 个适当单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
The French author Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin once 56 (write), “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.” Put more 57 (simple), this means “You are what you eat.” Most people today relate this saying to healthy eating. However, Brillat-Savarin was actually referring 58 our personality, character and culture.
Certainly, in many ways this seems 59 (be) true. At a minimum, the kinds of food local people consume tell us what they grow in their region, what kinds of lives they lead, 60 what they like and do not like. “This is Radio Two. This is the one o’clock news. A she-wolf escaped from the
Dorford Zoo this morning and is believed to be still at large in the Dorford area. If hungry, the wolf might be dangerous. If anyone sees this animal, please inform the nearest police station.”
Mrs Clarke switched the radio off; she wanted to make her lunch before her baby woke up. She pushed the pram(婴儿车) into the garden, left it under a tree out of the sun and went into the kitchen.
Ten minutes later, she came to the back door to see if everything was all right. A big dog was standing by the pram looking at the baby. “That’s the Johnsons’ dog. I’ve told them they ought to keep that great animal in their own garden. Those dogs are a bit too much like wolves,” said Mrs Clarke.
Then Mrs Clarke went cold. “Wolves! What have I heard about wolves ” She was sure that she had heard something about an escaped wolf on the radio. She looked hard at the creature by the pram—and the more she looked, the more certain she became. It wasn’t the dog from next door. Like it, but different. It was as big as the dog, but the color was greyer and it looked thinner.
At this moment the creature put its front legs on the side of the pram and looked at the sleeping baby, licking(舔) its face. The baby woke up and began to cry quietly.
Mrs Clarke wanted to scream, but she knew it would be wrong to do that. What should she do “Inform the police,” the radio had said. But that meant leaving the garden and going to the telephone near the front door. She was sure that somehow she must get the wolf away from the pram. Then she remembered the piece of meat she had bought. It was on the kitchen table.
