1. Both Li Ming and Wang Mei are drawing a map of a perfect neighbourhood.
李明和王梅都在画完美的社区地图。
both ... and ...表示“两个都,……”,可连接名词,动词,形容词。
一般指两者,连接两个并列部分作主语时谓语用复数。
e.g. He spoke both French and English.
他既会说法语又会说英语。
Both his brother and his sister are married.
他的哥哥和姐姐两人都结婚了。

2. I need a big park so I can play basketball!
我需要一个大公园,于是我就可以打篮球了!
so conj. 意为“所以”。because 和so不能同时出现,这点
与汉语不同,though 和but也是如此。
e.g. Soccer makes me thirsty, so I need a place to buy drinks.
踢足球使我口渴,所以我需要找一个买饮料的地方。

3. And here’s a corner store. I can buy drinks when I am thirsty!
这有一个街角商店,当我口渴时我可以买饮料喝。
here is a comer store为倒装句,以here,there,in,out,away,now,
then等引导的句子中,采用全部倒装。如果主语为代词,则不用倒装。
e.g. Here are some picture-books.
这是一些图画书。
Here they are.

4. — Why so many bookstores 为什么(画)这么多的书店?
— Because I buy lots of books. 因为我买许多书。
because引导原因状语从句,because和so不能同时使用。
because of后面只能接名词、代词或动名词。
e.g. They didn’t go fishing because it rained.
=They didn’t go fishing because of the rain.
因为下雨了,所以他们没有去钓鱼。

5. She won’t have to go far.
她不必走得太远。
won’t即will not,是will的否定式。
have to意思是“不得不,必须”,后加动词原形,否定句
为:don’t have to。
e.g. I have to leave now but you don’t have to go with me.
我得走了,但你不必跟我一起走。

6. I also added a Canadian restaurant to complete my map.
为了完善我的地图,我又加上了一家加拿大餐馆。
complete v. 意为“完成” ,和finish两者都可表示“完成”,有时
可作为同义词通用。这句也可以写成I also added a Canadian
restaurant to finish my map.。
e.g. The writer has completed/finished his novel.
这个作家已写完了他的小说。

7. I can take Jenny there when she comes for a visit!
当詹妮来的时候,我可以带她去那里。
come for a visit意思是“来参观,来看看”,类似的短语还有go on a visit
to ..., pay a visit to ...等。
when she comes for a visit是when引导的时间状语从句,用一般现在时表示
将来的事情。
e.g. When spring comes, I will go out to fly kites.
春天到来时,我将出去放风筝。
When mum comes back, I will finish my homework.
当妈妈回来时,我将完成我的作业。

Label everything on your map in English. Show the map to your friends. Talk about it. Would your friends like to live in your neighbourhood
