(1) encourage 作及物动词，意为“鼓励；激励”。encourage sb. to do sth意为“鼓励
某人做某事”。
(2) punish作及物动词，意为“惩罚”。punish sb. 意为“惩罚某人”。
encourage 和punish都可以在词尾加后缀 ment变成名词，encouragement (鼓励)和
punishment (惩罚)。
e.g. Her words were a great encouragement to them.

He was asked to clean the house as a punishment.
