2. If we pollute the rivers and oceans,fish may get sick or even die.
句中get sick意思是“生病”, get 在这是系动词,
意思是“变得”, 后面一般接形容词或者动词的过去分词。

【拓展】get的其他用法:
(1)get表示“得到”。
We can get good education today.
现在我们能够得到良好的教育。
(2)get 表示“理解”。
I have got you. 我明白你的意思。
(3)get“到达”,是不及物动词,接地点用to,接地点副词时,省略to。
He got to Shanghai last night.
他昨晚到达了上海。
(4)get 还可以作使役动词,意思是“使……”。
She always gets her mother to cook delicious food.

3. Nature is a balance between all the living things on the planet.
句中between是介词,意思是“在……之间”,可以构成
词组“between…and…”,意思是“在……和……之间”,
强调两者之间, 比如说两个人、两件事、两个地点之间等等。

【辨析】between, among
(1) between(介词)表示两者之间或者三者以上的两两之间。
There are many trees between buildings.

(2) among(介词)表示三者或者三者以上的之中。

The natural world is filled with living things. Living things start out weak and small and slowly grow strong and big. You are a living thing. Each of your classmates is a living thing. Flowers, grass and trees are living things, too. Bees, ants, doves, dogs and cats—these are all living things.
表示生live与死 die的各类用法
All living things need food and water to grow. Think about yourself. When you are hungry, you need to eat. You eat fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. They can help you grow big and strong. You drink water when you are thirsty. Now think about a tree. When a tree is hungry, it gets food from the soil. Trees drink water, too.
We are different in some ways, but all living things are connected. We all live on the same planet, and we depend on each other. If we pollute the rivers and oceans, fish may get sick or even die. Some birds live off fish. If the birds eat the sick or dead fish, they may die off. Nature is a
balance between all the living things on the planet. If one species dies off, then another species may die off, followed by another, and another...
We should respect the earth and all the living things on it.
